jeanmichelselli··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
AI models and in particular LLMs are not capable of logic reasoning. See for example this paper:

https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.06941

Ergo, they can't prove any theorem whatsoever. How do people at OpenAI expect that we believe in claims like that? This is yet another before-the-IPO stunt in my opinion..

Personally, I won't believe any of these claims until the community of mathematicians says otherwise.

jeanmichelselli··on How GPT‑5.6 Sol helps run quantum computing experiments
This is a fantastic way to use a C64!

If you want to see other similar quantum computing exploits on 8bit computers:

jeanmichelselli··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Too many unverified claims from OpenAI at this point.. why are we still talking about these people anyway?
jeanmichelselli··on Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities
Well.. I think I can imagine why.. ;)
jeanmichelselli··on Multi-Agents LLM Financial Trading Framework
This would make sense only if the LLMs would be constantly updated with a new data set and training phase every day. In that case, I'd could see this approach as having some sense. But, otherwise, these are just stochastic machines trained on static (outdated) data and I don't see how their predictions should be better than any other method around or even better than a human guessing.
jeanmichelselli··on Mistral raises €3B
I just hope they don't become the new OpenAI...
jeanmichelselli··on Decoding the NEC V20 Microcode
This is an amazing project, I'm always impressed by stuff like this. I'd be very curious to know, though, if there's a market for achievements like that.
jeanmichelselli··on Tell HN: OpenAI brings back 5 hour limit for plus and business standard users
Clearly, the prices and limitations will increase with time if they don't find an efficient way to perform training and inference of LLMs. It would be great to see those issues being seriously addressed and, eventually, being fixed for good. THAT would definitely make an important and practical difference. Not only economically but also scientifically.
jeanmichelselli··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
No one from Microsoft will ever confirm, but the status of Windows "OS" says it all.. ;)
jeanmichelselli··on Simple Is Not Small
simple = maintainable
jeanmichelselli··on Speculative Decoding in vLLM on AMD GPUs
In my opinion, LLMs are one of the most fascinating result coming from machine learning in recent years. Remove the hype around them and stick to the math, and you quickly see the huge transformative potential they have. It's great to see a lot of research being done in that direction, I wish it would mainly come from academia though..
jeanmichelselli··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers
I love to hear news like that! It was only a matter of time if you ask me.
jeanmichelselli··on Making a Python interpreter in 1024 bytes
Interesting, especially when you know they used to ship a complete BASIC interpreter in less than 32 KB in the past..
jeanmichelselli··on IBM Quantum Nighthawk R2
I also have to add that, so far, we know only a handful of algorithms which might run on a general quantum computer (if we had one!). Among those, only two performs something which would actually be useful (Grover and Shor). And we have only those, not for a lack of trying.. it's because coming up with quantum algorithms is intrinsically complicated (it's definitely not like writing an algorithm for a classical machine). So those quantum bits could be, in theory, the most stable thing in the universe, I'd still see them as irrelevant in everyday applications.
jeanmichelselli··on IBM Quantum Nighthawk R2
These machines do not provide any computational speedup, we have plenty of papers coming from academic physicists clearly showing this. Why these people insist with their narrative is beyond my comprehension at this stage (maybe, artificially increase the value of their market shares?)..

P.S. I was involved in semiconductor physics and quantum computing way before it became a buzz word.

jeanmichelselli··on "We Have to Assume That the Internet Will Go Offline in the Next Few Years"
The usual daily dose of fearmongering we get nowadays I guess..
jeanmichelselli··on LLMs as a Cognitive Virus
No surprise here, this principle practically applies to anything that can spread inside a population, including ideas of any kind. But if you write a paper, don't say "ideas", say "LLMs" instead. You'll get more people talking about it..
jeanmichelselli··on Can AI design circuit boards yet?
LLMs are amazing at this sort of things and they represent a very useful tool.. but only if you know what you're doing. In any case, it's great to see that these models can help with electronic circuits too, I'll give it a try. We're living in very interesting times!
jeanmichelselli··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
I'm a mathematician and I'm not sure one should believe those results right now.. An automatic formalization requires a system of logic rules to be applied, which is not something LLMs are great at (remember the Apple paper a while ago?). I'm very curious to see how the community will react after the initial hype.. so far, it's being quite disappointing..
jeanmichelselli··on Porting my 1993 Amiga game to Godot, with an LLM reading the 68000 assembly
This is a really cool project! Amazing!
jeanmichelselli··on 'People are going to get screwed' Pennsylvania voters unite against data centres
I'm glad to see that people unite for things like this. This is important and necessary.
jeanmichelselli··on O&O ShutUp10 – The antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11
I completely agree with this comment! If your OS does not behave like an OS anymore, better to switch to a real OS at that point. That's it. I've always been disappointed by Windows "OS" in the past but now it's really too much..
jeanmichelselli··on How Fairphone built the Fairphone Gen 6+
What they are doing is really great in my opinion. I really hope to see more of this in the future!
