jbhatab··on Tesla – Lithium-ion storage is ready to power the grid
Curious, what kind of stuff is coming out that's better than Tesla?

I'd imagine there's all types of companies trying to solve this in different ways.

jbhatab··on Time to Take a Stand
He clearly stated he would make strong policies regarding immigration. The American people voted for him knowing this and he's following through on it.

I'd say “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States” is a fitting name given everything he has said up to this point.

Whether or not you agree, this looks like the democratic process to me. Taking action against his policies after election is obviously fine, but if you cared so deeply then why didn't you do this rallying call before he got elected? He is doing exactly what he said he would do and what the people voted him in for.

* PS: I'm not endorsing Donald Trump's decisions at all.

jbhatab··on 2016 JavaScript Rising Stars
except very different results. This blog really shows how fast Vue is growing.
jbhatab··on Elixir v1.4.0 released
What's wrong with getting excited about a new language and framework that's better? Being vocal about how awesome something is gets people involved which grows the community. A larger community translates to more educational material and tooling.

I think zealotism has a fine line, but I don't think it's all bad. It's almost like protestors that believe in something strongly. Sometimes they cross the line, but them protesting gains visibility which results in change.

jbhatab··on Logojoy: AI-powered logo creator
This is great. Sorry if this is a noob question but what did you use? Is this all coded in raw php? Or is there some sort of combination of tools/libraries you used to make this happen like tensorflow?
jbhatab··on Logojoy: AI-powered logo creator
I would love to know more details on the tech side. Did you use a machine learning framework or api? Just would love to know your process as a dev looking to incorporate some machine learning.
jbhatab··on Show HN: Antd – A set of high-quality React components
How's this compare to material-ui? I like material ui and it looks like you have some nice components, just curious what the x-factor is.

Always up to use a new tool!

jbhatab··on $15 Production Kubernetes Cluster on DigitalOcean
I would love to hear you overall review of everything. I'm really into all the options. Dokku seems too simple for the stuff I want to do. Flynn is pretty awesome, but I've been loving the steady progress Deis makes. Rancher is also interesting.

I'd love to know what was the smoothest process for something like a phoenix/node/rails app out of these. Feel free to email me at jbhatab@gmail.com if you feel like breaking it down over chat too :D

jbhatab··on Show HN: Tesseract.js – Pure JavaScript OCR for 60 Languages
it was instantaneous Deckard Cain for me.
jbhatab··on Leaflet 1.0 – A JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
How would you say it is compared to leaflet? much more complex?
jbhatab··on Why I'm Not a React Native Developer
Article feels clickbaity with some points that have been addressed and discussed thoroughly already. These are known cons of using a javascript framework that compiles to native.

If you just want something easily replaceable, use something like cordova.

If you want perfectly native and guaranteed support, use the native SDKs.

If you want simplicity with a javascript framework that compiles to native with the concerns of it being made by facebook then use react native.

React native solves a lot of peoples problems especially if they are starting an app from scratch.

jbhatab··on Leaflet 1.0 – A JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
Is mapbox going to work immediately with leaflet 1.0?
jbhatab··on Leaflet 1.0 – A JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
agreed. just use it raw. Or with mapbox
jbhatab··on Startups turning to a funding tactic used by oil and gas companies in the 1900s
Genuienly curious as a fairly young person, 26, of how common loans have been in the startup community up to this point?

I can't imagine that business loans have been avoided up to this point. 100% could be wrong though.

Also isn't debt equity fairly popular which has a lot less equity attachments and is almost like a glorified loan? This one I'm much less sure about.

jbhatab··on Undebt: How We Refactored 3M Lines of Code
This may or may not be true. Just depends.
jbhatab··on Reactotron – CLI and OS X app for inspecting React Native and JS apps
I've been doing react web and native apps for a while. Why do I want this exactly? Seems like a lot of stuff that's almost competing with my ide stuff but not quite useful enough to switch off?

Not attacking, just want some perspective.

jbhatab··on Tim Cook, the interview: Running Apple ‘is sort of a lonely job’
It's more than difficult to just drop a company that you can lead with the best direction when you have so many people close to you that depend on its success. So yes he can leave, but there is more than just his paycheck on the line if he quits.
jbhatab··on You Don’t Have “Plenty of Time”
"You know, once in a while, you should take a break from objectives and just enjoy life." this is exactly the opposite conclusion to be derived from this if you are trying to achieve a goal.

Yes it's ok to live and enjoy the little things, but if you want to achieve a goal.... you don't have time. Deal with it and work within those parameters. Every second you spend enjoying your time with a beer and family is time someone else is stepping up.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but it just is. Maybe you want to spend time with family. But just as easily you could be forever unfulfilled because you are hyper ambitious and never applied yourself fully.

jbhatab··on This Is Your Life, Brought to You by Private Equity
I only see this being a problem if there are no free market forces being allowed. One of the examples was that 'some' of the private equity ambulances and fire trucks arrive late. As long as a better one comes in and replaces them, then what's wrong with that?

I have a lot more faith in a greedy money driven investor and company to delivery on the end product than the government. At least they will do everything possible to maximize profits. If they get contracts and have a complete monopoly with no free market though, then this is an issue.

jbhatab··on Ask HN: What was your “why didn't I start doing this sooner” moment?
personal experiences mostly match up with this even though I have no scientific evidence to back it up.

I do have a question though, a 3 day fast?!?!?!?! 3 days of no food? I'm assuming you drink water?

Do you drink coffee or use any some of stimulants?

jbhatab··on Venezuelans Ransack Stores as Hunger Grips the Nation
completely agree with this. Obviously nothing is certain but it's a strong factor and time brings this out.
jbhatab··on As ‘Slither.io’ Goes Viral, Game’s Creator Scrambles to Keep Up
agreed. Deep and introspective analysis aside, it's agar.io with snakes.
jbhatab··on Elixir RAM and the Template of Doom
highly concurrent apps like chat based apps at the very least.
jbhatab··on Lyft gaining on Uber as it spends big on growth
"However, they still do not get the kind of data Google can get from their Maps and Waze (It's interesting to note that Lyft and Waze partnered) to enable their AI researchers."

Google is invested in uber, why would they not supply them the data they needed?

jbhatab··on Brain scans reveal how LSD affects consciousness
The things you can experience and learn about people while on ecstasy and LSD don't even compare to meditation. Meditation is about silence in your mind and removing thoughts. The most profound effects I've seen from LSD and ecstasy come from when people interact with each other. They feel a sense of bond that is nearly impossible sober. People are free to express things with each other on these drugs and the mental barriers are removed which creates that strong connection.

There is another element that happens at festivals where there is the feeling of not following the rules. Not just to break the rules, but you are free to do whatever you want and no one will judge you. This reenforces that connection feeling by just talking to people while you are high and feeling no judgmentalism, which is near impossible in normal life.

Further I feel like meditation has reached a state of popularity and like it is what you are supposed to do which makes it lose some of it's essence for some people. Anything that's done because others are doing it can cause this feeling. The fact that I see kids age 5-15 meditating makes me think this because there's very little chance all those kids have the problems and mental state where meditation will be a huge help. It's more of something they should be doing which takes away from what meditation is really for.

jbhatab··on React Native for OS X
Are you being serious? Have you seen facebook groups or discord? Both are amazing apps. Facebook groups is better than most native apps I see.

Just because the tool isn't the right tool for your job means nothing about how good it is. graph databases aren't the best at searching large singular tables, but that doesn't make them useless.

jbhatab··on Silicon Valley startups rein in spending and prepare for layoffs
"Old media has schadenfreude for technology companies failing and they use "startup" as a code-word for their tone that tech companies are irresponsible, lazy, out of touch, and not doing "real" work."

I think you have a very misaligned perception of the general world. Most people don't even know what a startup is unless your in a major city and the perception is pretty positive overall.

jbhatab··on AI is transforming Google search – the rest of the web is next
I couldn't disagree more. They have only gotten better every single year for me. Undeniably better every year.
jbhatab··on MIT dean to start new university: “No majors, no lectures, no classrooms”
I disagree. I think most people need structure. It may be from personal issues or life issues, but most people need that guidance.
jbhatab··on Trello clone with Phoenix and React – 5-part tutorial
Thank you so much. Been doing lots of phoenix+react and blogs like this are a tremendous help to the community.
