jasonz··on Show HN: Parlor – Customer Collaboration Platform
Happy to answer any questions you have about Parlor!
jasonz··on How I left a 4 year career in finance and became a software engineer in 5 months
kyro - I want to congratulate you on your decision! I went through the same thing (graduated in 2011) and it was indeed very difficult at the time. Over time your friends and family will come around and realize you made the best decision for yourself. Work hard, find a great mentor, and enjoy the ride !
jasonz··on Criticue.com - 6 months ago we launched on HN
nice looking site! as for the testimonials, i think they transition way too fast for a vistor to read each set

bought the book and donated to fightforthefuture - Hooray Internet!
jasonz··on Ask HN: why use tmux if iterm2 provides tabbed windows
tmux really shines for me when starting or switching between projects. I can fire up a rails app with a single command and have all the tabs I like ready to go. Check out prag prog's tmux book for a quick intro: http://pragprog.com/book/bhtmux/tmux

Also, tmuxinator is a nice addition if you do start using tmux. https://github.com/aziz/tmuxinator

jasonz··on Ask HN: music for hackers?
I've been digging these mixes that were posted last time the question was asked. Really helps to get in the zone.

jasonz··on Getting my money back
You could also buy coins from the mint and then deposit them into your account. People do this to rack up frequent flyer miles for free.

jasonz··on When should you jump ship? Can you split time between startups & still succeed?
You're going to be successful no matter which road you choose. You have skills people value that you can always use. Not knowing more about the details, I say go with the new opportunity with the guy that seems to want to work with you. Who do you want to spend the next x number of years with?
jasonz··on A simple guide for getting started with git
Using gitx (http://gitx.frim.nl/) really helped me grasp some of the concepts you talk about.
jasonz··on Ask HN: (Backend) coders, did you learn web design? If yes, how?

jasonz··on Do you want to sell sugar water or do you want to change the world?
But information technology is what I know, and it’s probably too late for me to learn a new field from scratch.

Information technology can absolutely save lives - I'd argue that a developer building medical software can save more lives than a PhD working on a treatment for cancer. The subtle killer these days are all the extra days a patient spends in the hospital. An extra day or two is what leads to complications. Work on solving the inefficiencies of inpatient medicine (documentation, communication, decision making, ect.) and you can go home at night knowing you are literally saving lives with your programming skills.

jasonz··on Show HN: I made a Web-based Todo App - used: CSS3 3D transforms, Node.js, love
My favorite part is the "I am a new user" button - very slick!
jasonz··on Quartzy (YC S11) Brings Order To Science Lab Supply Cabinets
It would be cool to somehow use a digital scale to track supplies. Each time you weigh a reagent, the scale could enter the amount used into Quartzy.

Come to think of it, using NFC might work really well for logging supplies. Stick a NFC sticker (I bet tagstand would hook you up) on items you want to track.

jasonz··on Quartzy (YC S11) Brings Order To Science Lab Supply Cabinets
Yeah it might be tricky to sell equipment, although maybe between labs at the same institution might work. An interesting alternative might be "AirBnb" for lab equipment - renting out the unused time.
jasonz··on Quartzy (YC S11) Brings Order To Science Lab Supply Cabinets
Quartzy should look into helping labs sell used lab equipment. It's hard to find a lab that doesn't have some good, functioning lab equipment that is no longer being used. They could set up an exchange that allows the trade or sale of equipment to other labs.

I bet this would work amazing if you had a celebrity or two at the event. You could also attach prizes to various seats to get some bidding wars.
jasonz··on Tell HN: Our Project, 365.io, is now $5 instead of $11
What if you let users sign up and use the site for 1 month free? They would be more invested in the site after a month and be more likely to part with some money. I would guess that you would make more money with one month free + 5 dollars for the rest of the year vs 5 dollars up front.

I really like the dropbox model of subscriptions. I would never had paid money when I signed up for dropbox, but now I'm right at my free limit. They have me in a win/win for them - I either pay to increase my storage or refer friends. For 365.io I think users would really get the concept after they see their "free" 30 pictures.

Great job on the design.

jasonz··on Wondering if you are getting a CR-48? Look for your zipcode here.
one to centercity philly, dont like those odds
jasonz··on Ask HN: What will medicine look like in 10 years?
Well I wish you good luck. Be sure to weigh the pros/cons of each career path that can get you to similar goals - MD vs PhD vs NP/PA. Is there a particular field of medicine that interests you the most?
jasonz··on Ask HN: What will medicine look like in 10 years?
Why do you want to be a doctor?
jasonz··on The Speech Accent Archive
Just spent an hour playing with the sound bites - made me wonder how much it costs southerners in lost productivity from speaking so slowly
jasonz··on [dead]
love the idea - everything is better with food. Best of luck to you. If you want to try this out in Philly down the road, I'm definitely in.
