Which is exactly what Mr. Benioff is trying to do with this article. Companies change when it's in their financial interest to do so; and rarely before then.
It’s easy to blame to rich and wealthy for the problems but they cannot force us to give them money. Every time I buy Facebook ads, I’m telling Mark that it’s okay for him to continue what he’s doing.
It’s very fun these days to blame the 1% for societies problems. But the 99% enable them.
It’s not shocking at all. I find my Echo to be incredibly useful and I’ve decided that it’s worth the trade-off. Just like I did with the microphone I have on my wrist and the one in my pocket.
I understand that you are advocating for a minority group, and that's noble. But the expectation that it's not okay for Amazon to miss a delivery due to a plane crash is irrational. It has nothing to do with "ableism".
Is it that they collect too much data? We've known that they been doing that for years.
Is it that they allow apps to read not only your data but your friends data? That's not a surprise either.
So some company somewhere figured out a way to abuse these already known parts of Facebook in a way that already violates the their ToS.
What should/could they have reasonably done differently that didn't require changing their entire business model?
Since the developers who live in cheaper parts of the country/world are now, effectively, paid more than those who live expensive parts of the world, are they not incentivizing employees to move out of the big cities?
I'm also curious about traveling expenses. I don't know if they do or not, but if they had an "all hands" meeting in Chicago, would they fly their employees in from all over the world? If so, do the people who live 10 blocks away from the office get the same "travel voucher" as those who live 10 hours away?
This sounds nice in theory, but how doesn’t this result in price inflation? Not only are you going to be taking a portion of businesses’ profits in taxes, but now you are increasing the cost of labour. And frankly, some jobs suck so badly that no one is going to want to do them without being paid a ton of money. For example, manual agricultural labor. Food costs would almost certainly skyrocket. (Unless you account for illegal immigrants, which you couldn’t naturalize because then you’d have to give them a UBI).
