jarsj··on Ask HN: I suck at marketing, can you give feedback on my startup's homepage?
You need to give a free account, or being able to try without entering my credit card.
jarsj··on Ask HN: How is Buxfer doing?
The founder is my college senior. Hold on for a while and I am sure he will address your issues.
jarsj··on Dear HN: I wrote a cross-platform GUI image compressor
I was under the impression that PNG/Gif/JPEG are already in compressed form. Your examples also do not show achieving any significant reduction in image size.
jarsj··on Show HN : I created a PHP Hacker News Clone in 2 hours
my bad, it doesn't handle special characters well. Can you try posting something without quotes or any other special characters..

You could report it at bugs.zopte.com.

jarsj··on Show HN : I created a PHP Hacker News Clone in 2 hours
Its not ready yet. Under active development and pre-alpha testing. You could get in though, if you can crack the puzzle :-)

jarsj··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your group/shared expenses ?
Buxfer http://www.buxfer.com/
jarsj··on [dead]
Flagged you.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Blog options and experiences?
I hope its not your objective to generate comments. I am not an expert (under 200 karma) but will advice anyways :-

1) Ask something when you need help and its not something obvious. Googling on your question before posting might help. For example, "What is the search engine you guys use ?" is a bad question.

2) Show something when you have something worth showing. Many people here are creating something and they like seeing what others are creating. If you are proud of something you built, show us.

3) People usually tend to contribute to a discussion when the original author seemed to have done some research himself. Take the "Brag HN" thread for example, I wonder if the author hadn't posted some examples about what kind of "about you" he wants to hear, it would have generated so much discussion.

4) Lastly, follow your instincts and have fun.

jarsj··on Ask HN: Blog options and experiences?
I wonder what no comments from last 7 hours mean, either people here are bored of blogging or answers to your questions are too obvious.
jarsj··on Quit Current Job that Involves Work I wasn't hired to do, or Stay?
If job is what you want to do, please find one before quitting. You may end up realizing finding a job was not trivial.

If you want to pursue entrepreneurship, I had say start working on your idea in your free time, unless you save some money and then quit.

my 2 cents.

jarsj··on Ask HN: Cool Things You've Done (Brag Thread)
I meant his Stanford Speech. It made me realize there is no better time to start a company then now.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Cool Things You've Done (Brag Thread)
- I quit Google after hearing Steve Jobs Speak.

- I won an IBM thinkpad from IBM.

- I wrote a program that could sing.

- I was slapped by a girl at the streets of Kolkata for wishing her good night. I was drunk.

- I am doing what I love.

jarsj··on Ask HN: What personal metrics do you track?
I track number of lines of code I write every month. I use statcvs which generates nice graphs over my CVS repository.
jarsj··on Ask HN: How to Deal with Startup Stress?
<steve-jobs> May be its time to change some things. You being constantly stressed out, while doing what you love, is a good enough signal. Listen to your heart. </steve-jobs>
jarsj··on Ask HN: Are you a single founder ?
I agree with you. A start-up is probably something that in theory can take over the market it defines.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Are you a single founder ?
1) 18 months. 2) No (3 subsequent rejects). 3) No. 4) Will be announcing soon.
jarsj··on Responses for Summer 2010 Applications Delayed
It would be great to have some feedback (unpolished notes) along with a rejection. That would make it worthwhile.
jarsj··on Hey HN: Check out my first Muse
First your website looks nothing like a shop to me. Spend some time looking at www.amazon.com and convince yourself that my chances to buy anything are much higher if your site looked like it.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Is there a point to school?
"Dots connect in future". You are not the first one to not see any point in going to school now. You will see the point 10 years down after - having met a co-founder of your very successful company. - transforming a college project into a billion dollar enterprise. - making great business deals with your college alumni. - ... etc etc

School gives plenty of opportunities to be whoever-you-want-to-be. More than that, the bonds you create in college are priceless. They motivate you to do whatever big you are destined to do. Don't miss out on all that.

jarsj··on If you became the last person on Earth, what would you do? Realistically.
I had this dream once and I was spending all my time buying important books on kindle while Amazon was still live.
jarsj··on Ask HN: How to look for a programming opportunity
In my college first year, we programmed in two languages Fortran and scheme. It really made me a better programmer. Scheme rocks.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Whatever happened to Google pulling out of China?
I do not think they can run an uncensored google.cn as per the law stands. All the posting say is that they will spend few weeks trying to find a way to do that. These things take time. Let's hope Google is trying.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Lightweight/Quality Blogging Software?
Hold on. I have been building something and you sound like a perfect customer. I will be sending beta invites in few weeks. Will remember you.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Where did you go to college?
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
jarsj··on Ask HN: How to recruit great hackers in a remote location?
Being flexible might help. Hire part-time. Have them stay over for few months and also allow working remotely. Make them visit once in a while. That's the mode I engage with companies who have good problems to solve and it works.
jarsj··on Rapportive - making excellent service scale
great landing page. I am inspired.
jarsj··on Imagine There's No YouTube
If companies can than why not the police?

There would be guidelines and you could take them to court for breaking them. There will be new sections in the law and new court judgments to base actions upon. It would evolve. Let there be a special department trained and specialized in this.

All I am saying is pass the onus to government and give them a way to do it.

jarsj··on Imagine There's No YouTube
If police can walk inside your hotel and stop people from breaking laws, they should be able to do at your website.

What we should build is a universally accepted protocol for government policing. Every UGC website must implement it. The government gets some police accounts which they can use to block objected content. Every government manages their jurisdiction. There can be treaties and smart organizations like NSA who do things automatically.

May be futuristic, but it will happen.

jarsj··on Ask HN: How would you convince your company to start using version control?
Drop a note explaining potential disasters of using such a system to everyone including your lead developer's boss. Then wait for the disaster to happen. And then shout again pointing to your email.
