Here is what I do:

<span class="contact-email">rea<span class="hidden">nospam</span>l@mai<span class="hidden">sjs</span>l.com</span>

I still receive "spam" tho, but it seems they manually collected the email because what I receive are B2B proposals clearly targeted at the topic of my website.

janmo··on Early Bitcoin Investor Roger Ver Charged with Tax Fraud
Very interesting that he got arrested in Spain for tax fraud, just like John McAfee.

Things look quite bad for him, he went all in on Bitcoin Cash, and even used leverage. He defaulted on CoinFLEX and owes them $47M in USDC. Roger Ver went from owning 131,000 Bitcoins in 2014 (worth almost 8 billion USD as of today) to pretty much broke.

janmo··on PuTTY vulnerability vuln-p521-bias
Doesn't make sense to me as well, even when fully random after 30,000 signatures you would get around 60 signatures where the nonce starts with nine zero bits.

I suspect there must be something else at play here.

EDIT: the nonce is PRIVATE, so the scenario I described would not work because we wouldn't know for which of the 30k signatures the nonce starts with 9 zero bits. Makes sense now.

Here are a few ideas to build the next great analytics tool, these are the main reasons why I build my own little tool for my websites:

1. Find a way to also count users with Ad Blocker. Google Analytics and even Plausible (unless when self hosted) don't track users with an Ad Blocker.

2. Show how many users are using an Ad Blocker, this is a very important metric when a site is relying on ad revenue. It turned out that 30-33% of my traffic was using an Ad Blocker, which prompted me to implement a fallback where I show the user a banner with an affiliate link instead.

3. Offer an unlimited free tier, under the condition that a summary of the stats is visible to everyone, a bit like Github used to work. Users can then hide to make their stats private.

janmo··on 95% of container ships are now going around the Southern Tip of Africa
Egypt will feel some pain, but most of it will be felt by Israel and Europe. Egypt has closed the canal many times itself as a form of protest, the longest closure was from 1967 to 1975 after the 6 day war with Israel.

So I do not expect them to do anything.

janmo··on Someone bought 26.9 BTC on Binance and sent it to Satoshi's dead wallet
It is pretty much a prisoners dilemma. If the coins are blacklisted, then both the Hacker and the victim are in a lose situation and it is a stalemate.

Now let's imagine the victim tells the hacker they are not willing to negotiate and hope that law enforcement will catch the hackers like they did in the Bitfinex case. The hacker could destroy some coins every X days to make it clear to the victim that this is not a good idea.

This is just a wild scenario. But had I been the Bitfinex hacker I would have done crazy things such as sending blacklisted coins in small amounts to many random addresses, those of exchanges, developers, non-profits, Satoshi Nakamoto etc.. Just to create chaos as it would have caused those people a lot of trouble and would have forced some kind of resolution.

janmo··on Someone bought 26.9 BTC on Binance and sent it to Satoshi's dead wallet
It proves that you destroyed X coins. Example, with the Bitfinex hack, about 120k Bitcoins were stolen, but they were blacklisted and unspendable even on the darknet. So the hypothetical hacker could try to negotiate returning x percent of the coins if he is let go with the rest. Burning coins could prove that he means business, and that he could just burn the entire 120k Bitcoins.

There must be something going on behind the scenes.

janmo··on Someone bought 26.9 BTC on Binance and sent it to Satoshi's dead wallet
It could also be that the founds are somehow related to illegal activities and this is just a way to get rid of them. Remember how hard it was for the Bitfinex hackers to launder their Bitcoins.

This is pretty much a proof of burn, it proves that X person has no longer access to these coins.

janmo··on KLM leaked data customers: private data easily collected
I recently was shocked when using my banking app, you type the account number of another customer at the same bank (6 to 7 digits) and the app will fill out the name of the account owner (and ask you to check it is the person you want to send the money to), I really felt at unease by it and hope they limit this kind of lookup to a certain number of requests per user/day or someone could easily get access to all of the bank's customer names and their respective account number, this would be insanely dangerous.
janmo··on Tinnitus linked to undetected auditory nerve damage
Mammals cannot restore hearing, but other animals such as Chicken can. A few years ago there was a drug called FX-322 that was able to regenerate inner ear hair cells in guinea pigs, it made it into human trials, but was unable to improve hearing, meaning that the cells were probably not functional.
janmo··on Tinnitus linked to undetected auditory nerve damage
You are not the only one, in fact removing acoustic nerve is known not to fix the tinnitus / sometimes making it worse. The research has has shown so far that it appears the Tinnitus is coming from within the brain, neurons that have lost the input signal from the acoustic nerve aren't stimulated anymore and in response start to emit noise signals on their own.
janmo··on Tinnitus linked to undetected auditory nerve damage
Most people having a peeep tone tinnitus including myself can experience complete silence for a few seconds (up to 30) by listening to a tone at the specific frequency of their Tinnitus.

For example listen to the following, at a level that it isn't uncomfortable and your Tinnitus might be gone for a short time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNf9nzvnd1k

This is called residual inhibition. You can Google "tinnitus residual inhibition" and find many papers about it.

Benzodiazepines work also very well in some cases, when taking them I have no Tinnitus at all, but that's ABSOLUTELY NOT a viable long term solution because of the long term negative effects.

I am not sure about this paper, but what I've read and believe the most is that the Tinnitus is caused by neurons in the brain, that have lost nerve input signals from the ear (due to hearing loss, nerve damage etc..), and start to emit parasite signals.

Benzodiazepines reduce the brain activity thus reducing/silencing the tinnitus. Residual inhibition seems to work by stimulating the region where the hearing loss has occurred, the neurons responsible for the Tinnitus all the sudden get stimulated and stop emitting noise signals for a few dozens of seconds then resume. But so far there is still a lot of research to be done and we are decades away from a cure that is SAFE enough. Benzos work but are just not worth it, this is like fighting back pain with opoids.

Until then I think it is best to protect our hearing, you can buy custom made earplugs which are comfortable to wear, last about 5 years and cost around 200 USD. I use them when I am in loud environments like on an air plane, train, at a bar etc...

Also it is best not be in completely silent environment as this is where you will notice the Tinnitus.

When listening to music with headphones it is important to take regular breaks and not to push the volume too high to give your ears some rest.

Edit: Last advice, don't try to listen to your tinnitus, but focus on other noises/sounds, if you are listening to the Tinnitus you are telling your brain that the signal is important, when you should be telling it, that it isn't.

janmo··on YouTube is now blocking ad blockers so I make ads run faster
I noticed that I don't get the adblocker message when I connect with a Cambodian IP, but when I use a VPN let's say in Singapore I get the message. It appears that currently Youtube Premium is not available in Cambodia.

So Ad blocker + IP from Cambodia still works like a charm.

It is even confusing to me. The trains are on separate tracks but the question implies that they will crash into each other. Which could happen even if they are on separate tracks (very low chance but non-zero given there is a malfunction).

Now even if they are on the same track it doesn't mean they would crash into each other as they still could brake in time.

janmo··on Reflecting on 18 Years at Google
You are probably right, because once I got accepted in the network, they were able to get to talk to the Google MCM/Adsense support and within one week I got MCM approved and my Adsense account was reinstated. Hadn't they be there I would still be stuck.
janmo··on Reflecting on 18 Years at Google
"Then Google had layoffs. The layoffs were an unforced error driven by a short-sighted drive to ensure the stock price would keep growing quarter-to-quarter"

Seems like they fired the Google Adsense support team. I have been using Google Adsense for many years, and since last year there is no way of contacting any support, there IS NO WAY, I have lost over 10k in revenue because of it, and was only able to get my problem fixed after 2 months by joining a third party publisher network.

Keep in mind that Adsense is one of Google's main sources income, and that they take a 32% cut as an intermediary (So they have ample money to pay for a 5 star support)!
