In your example, the accused was found guilty and sentenced. The victim was not fired from her job, nor her identity revealed. Also, the accused was not found guilty of rape nor battery, as you allude to. Read your own link:
"Turner was a student athlete at Stanford University on January 18, 2015, when he sexually penetrated an intoxicated and unconscious 22-year-old[1][2][3] woman (later called "Emily Doe"[4]) with his fingers. [...]
He was arraigned on February 2, 2015, pleading not guilty on all five charges.[13] On October 7, 2015, after reviewing the results of DNA tests, the two rape charges were dropped by prosecutors.[7][12][14][15] The trial began on March 14, 2016,[16] and concluded on March 30, 2016, with Turner's conviction on the three remaining charges of felony sexual assault.[17][18] The convictions carried a potential sentence of 14 years in prison. Prosecutors recommended six years in prison while probation officials recommended a "moderate" county jail sentence.[19] On June 2, 2016, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky sentenced Turner to six months confinement in the Santa Clara County jail to be followed by three years of probation. He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life[20] and participate in a sex offender rehabilitation program.[18]"
It seems there are some members of HN who really want to return to the days of witch burnings and mob rule, where an accusation of guilt is immediately acted upon and the accused is executed for the alleged crimes.
Interesting times indeed...
Did she, or did she not, report these multiple rapes to the police?
How can someone allow a rapist to walk free? What job is worth keeping that interferes with justice being done? Which VC can survive a lawsuit resulting from firing an employee who was raped by her direct supervisor????
These questions must be answered if the parent's story is to be believed. If the story is true, it would be international headline news for weeks.
Pretty sure she could sue the VC and retire off their millions if they fired her for opening a rape case. By the way, you don't report rape to HR. You report it to the police, immediately after it has happened. And you go to the hospital and get a rape kit done. Rape isn't some microagression accusation you can just throw around when something uncomfortable happens. It is a felony.
If she does not report her rape to the police, she is allowing these alleged rapists the freedom to rape again. She is encouraging criminal behavior.
As such, the more likely story, is that your friend wasn't raped. She was "raped", as in, there was a consensual but unconformable sexual experience that she later upgraded in her mind to "rape". That word has been so diluted by social justice warriors that it has lost all meaning outside of the court of law. Once again, if she was raped, she can send her rapists to prison for a very, very long time. And sue the company for millions.
So, why isn't she doing this? Probably because she wasn't raped.
As such, Facebook takes all the profit from social media advertising, and can set its own prices and dictate terms to its customers. Ford can afford to do no such thing.
If Ford were the only auto maker in the world, it would be a far more lucrative investment.
I have the utmost sympathy for the plight of the chronically ill, but to decree a referendum result as "madness" is slightly egotistical.
Perhaps those who are outraged by world events merely don't see the full picture? Perhaps their protective shells work too well, and they are insulated from the reality with which the masses must contend?
Worth pondering.
Not so much for the pawns.
The laws are created by those in power to serve those in power. They do not stand on their own, because they are enforced by cops, lawyers and judges, who are people. These people choose to enforce the law based on the situation at hand, and this can lead to a large disparity in outcomes given technically similar cases.
Assange and Snowden will both rot in Guantanamo the second they leave their safe houses. If you think otherwise, you are absurdly naive to the geopolitics of the world we live in.
As you rightly stated, these "power words" change with the political climate, but they all serve the same purpose: to divide and conquer. Balkanize the voter base in any way possible, and you have a fractured and easily controlled populace.
It appears modern democracy has been fully gamed.
For example, it is very likely that I will get banned for this statement:
"The Y chromosome in primates results in sexual dimorphism, which leads to differences in physiology and behavior between the sexes."
>What a dystopian future that would be, with everybody sitting on a single planet at risk of disease, nuclear war, asteroid impacts, global-scale climate change, all without a care, while you look into your VR headset and see the realistic landscapes of other planets.
Have you done any reading on the habitability of Mars? I will guarantee that once you truly comprehend what life on Mars will entail, you will be BEGGING for the luxuries of disease, nuclear war, climate change, and all the other great things that life on Earth bring.
Mars is a brutal, senseless struggle against a guaranteed DEATH.
I recommend going to live in Antartica first, and see how long you can last there. Followed by building a capsule on top of Everest. Then by living in the ISS. Then by living on the Moon. ONLY THEN, would you have any idea of what Mars living will be like.
But alas, even then it will be far, FAR more challenging than living on the Moon. The transit time between the Earth and the Moon is childish compared to Earth and Mars. Once you're on Mars, there will be no coming back for a LONG time.
I'll take my VR tour of Mars any day, thank you.
In the real world, the only thing that matters is who has the bigger stick to backup whatever terms they dictate.
No NATO treaties or US treaties would have any weight without the backing of the largest military force on the planet. So in regard to space, it's all meaningless, because there's nothing of value on Mars or the Moon that is economically worth sending a military to enforce a treaty over.
Common sense isn't so common sometimes...
You understand the goal of any business, especially an internet business, is to become a monopoly right?
Look at Amazon, Google, FB, etc. They only became profitable once they became monopolies, and thus could set their own prices based on whatever metrics they chose.
The reason startups take outside funding is so that they can become a monopoly in a given market, and then charge customers whatever they want.
Don't fall for the marketing hype. Startups don't save the world. Scientists, doctors and inventors do. Startups just make a few people very, very rich at the expense of their customers by selling them mostly crap they don't need or want, using psychological manipulation (i.e. marketing).
Once you understand that this isn't some noble quest, you can finally begin to understand how to play the game (of thrones).
The idea behind Basic Income is to remove government intervention in the economy. Coupled with a flat tax, it massively reduces government overhead and bureaucracy, and leaves government to it's main role as the arbiter of society.
Governments' main role is to enforce the rules a society is based upon via the social contract. Collect taxes, enforce laws, and invest in the unprofitable but necessary foundations of civilization (infrastructure, healthcare, research, conservation, etc.)
In societies, as in design, less is often more. The more lifelong government bureaucrats we create, the more perverse incentives exist for them to parasitize the government for their own gains.
So why do we need to legislate for minimum work hours if we have a sufficient BI? And in what fictional universe does open borders make sense?
Human beings are competitive, and we form tribes to compete against one another. This is healthy, and leads to great achievements when properly channeled. The Cold War, for example, caused an era of unprecedented technological innovation. As we enter the post-war era, we already see the downfalls of globalization. When there is no need to compete, decadence sets in. The rich hoard money, and governments refuse to invest in their people's future in the form of infrastructure, research, etc.
We need borders, and we need a competitive immigration system that behaves like a sports team manager who is constantly on the lookout to poach talented individuals from competitors.
Competition is the quintessential human trait which has brought us to where we are today. Setting it aside has always lead to decadence and downfall.

His current wife also recently decided to announce a divorce. At least he is on a big winning streak with his businesses this time.
