I'm really liking the agnosticism with Beak.js. Would love to read a blog post about the power of that or examples of useBeakFunction use-cases
jakiestfu··on Ask HN: How do you not take criticism of your work personally?
How do you take criticism outside of work? It feels like an exercise in self-reflection. It is easy to attribute code to intelligence, but it is not that simple. When people say "This code is no good", you need to realize that their delivery in feedback, while flawed, could stand to hold some truth, and that doesn't make you any less intelligent. I've been writing software for well over a decade and the most impactful thing I've learned is to lean into and embrace my failures. Try to remove ego from the situation as much as possible. Good luck.

jakiestfu··on Reframe.js – Responsive iFrames
We are a major player in Ember Fastboot. We're trying to open source more projects that have value, so it's nice to hear people notice!
jakiestfu··on Reframe.js – Responsive iFrames
Thanks!
jakiestfu··on Reframe.js – Responsive iFrames
I guess the best way to think about it is that when you omit the height on an image, it will scale when you define its width. iFrames don't do that by default, but this allows them to be scaled.
jakiestfu··on Reframe.js – Responsive iFrames
Technically, the iFrame itself is not responsive but that is what the library does: it wraps it in a container that has more responsive properties than the iFrame.

In addition, I think you may be overloading the word "responsive." This is not a post-message base iFrame resizer, it makes iFrames scale like images. This maintains an aspect ratio which is very desirable in many cases. Think a YouTube embed.

Hey, I made this. Cool! Thanks for sharing! :)
jakiestfu··on Ask HN: What project are you currently working on?
Working on something called Diamonds - a math worksheet generator for Teachers and Tutors. The google docs of math sheets, if you will.

Also just made off-the-rip, a command line & JS soundcloud audio downloader that embeds metadata like artist, title, and artwork. https://github.com/jakiestfu/off-the-rip

jakiestfu··on Show HN: My new JavaScript MVC framework
new function(window){}(this) is kinda weird to me. Sorry that's nothing valuable to add to your code.
jakiestfu··on Scuttle - Anonymous hangouts for co-workers
Might want to wrangle the HTML formatting before it becomes too unwieldy! This looks great. Would be nice to know how our messages are secured, as well.
jakiestfu··on Show HN: Snap.js – Beautiful Facebook-style side menu in JavaScript
I did quite a while ago, but was ignored probably because of the quality of the pull. Since then, I had decided to tackle it again, and I have opened an issue as opposed to a pull request.

jakiestfu··on Show HN: Snap.js – Beautiful Facebook-style side menu in JavaScript
I wish they would, but the dev team of Ratchet ignores me and it's frickin obnoxious/frustrating. I sent them a link but no go. Whatever! I can only make this as best as possible. Thanks for your kind words!

I see what you're talking about. Coda and Aptana both do the same thing, and the reason is you're selecting the \n new line character when you do shit+down-arrow. Try shift + down-arrow + left-arrow
jakiestfu··on Show HN: Behave.js – Coding Behaviors for textarea elements
Thank you for catching this, there are multiple instances where the same bug causes an infinite loop, muahaha. Will fix soon

Indentation levels should be converting line to line, is it not for you?
jakiestfu··on Show HN: Behave.js – Coding Behaviors for textarea elements
Since posting and receiving positive feedback, I have added support for unindentation, and multi-line indent/unindent. Will see about adding more features tomorrow! Want to keep this light, it's almost there though. Next is IE support.
jakiestfu··on Show HN: Behave.js – Coding Behaviors for textarea elements
Right now, it is easy to add support for indentation breaks, but it would function like braces or brackets. I'll look into this for parenthesis tomorrow, thanks!
jakiestfu··on Show HN: Behave.js – Coding Behaviors for textarea elements
Yes, I will implement that tomorrow, thank you
