Edit: I think funnyordie videos are actually really well produced.
So many artists around me would just love it if they could have even a marginal exit as to be artists all the time. However, most (as in, 99.9%) have to take a full-time job to make ends meet.
My point is not to say it's disingenuous to state that selling a company doesn't make a person happy. But I think one cannot underestimate how those finances helped to further happiness and even continued success.
Starcraft 2 has improved it's e-sports appeal which I credit mostly to the community but it suffers from the lack of variety in strategy and the dumbing down/nerfing of a lot of micro. HotS will likely shift add more strategies alongside future patches that tweak the balance, but I think it's still about a year or two before gamers are truly satisfied with the state of the game. Kind of like what Starcraft 1 went through.
Having lived in New York, maybe I saw a different gentrification? Creatives and artists who brought a lot of pride and interest in a neighbourhood. Local establishments that had character and often people who lived within the area. Cultural diversity.
But as the area becomes more popular, attracting people who are willing to pay higher rent, it becomes ridiculous for people who bring value to the community to exist. That local cafe can't afford to the increasing rent there and so it's replaced by a generic Starbucks. That apartment which houses the band that plays locally is now occupied by a couple who works across bridge. That little restaurant that sold really delicious and cheap breakfast no longer can afford that spot and instead the whole frontage is now another chain.
I'm ambivalent because I understand that's just a normal cycle. But in a way, it's a bit unfair to some of these people who brought a lot of reason to be in that location, but now can't afford it because they helped make it too popular.
I no longer live in NY and reside in an extremely wealthy neighbourhood. Businesses around me are generally overpriced and lack character because... maybe those are the only things that can survive around here.
'Clark Evans is near me, as he is in SoHo.'
'Clark Evans is here in SoHo.'
I mean I have to think a bit harder in recalling who's who in this argument. Even the more popular case of Apple Corps v Apple Computer is more distinguishable.
Seems so. Most of the best subreddits (imo of course) are niche communities.
- Improvements in the text handling
- Automatic layer boundary management
- Filter layers and "Layer effects"
- Non-destructive editing
- Auto-anchoring of floating selection - or better, get rid of floating selections!
- Script recording and playback
- "Smart objects"
Even for me as a mere moderate power-user (I design websites/apps and do photo adjustments), there's four things on that list that are absolutely essential. And I'm willing to pay the extra dollars for it given how it enhances the final product.
That and standardizing the white space between apps. It looks cleaner to me than looking at a bunch of different sized silhouettes. Yes, it might be less efficient, but I'd prefer the overall aesthetic over the half second I potentially lost.
Furthermore, there's a nice comforting feeling being physically around others who appreciate reading.

They don't allow men to bring bags into the stadium. But they don't have a bag storage service (at least the last time I went). So random businesses around it provide bag checks for a nominal fee.
Funnily enough, they allow women to bring large bags and purses inside.
I was actually in that sort of position. Do I spend 80k+ on medicine or just let it be because that's a ridiculous amount that my insurance wouldn't cover because of my pre-existing condition (that really only sidelines me now and then)? If I was still working at a corporation, I wouldn't have had an issue. Alas, bootstrapping and freelancing are different ball-games altogether.
Thankfully, I had the choice of moving back to Canada. In exchange for tax-payers taking the burden of my medical costs for a month or two, I recovered as a productive member of society, i.e. paying taxes, contribute to the economy, and started a business here of my own. As much as I loved living in the U.S., I feel a responsibility to return something positive back to Canada for giving a shit about me instead of trying to gouge me with fees.

Bringing this one up because it's also talking about some of the same distractions (video gaming, porn) and was sadly lauded by a lot of women I know on Facebook.
As for the icon... it's a camera in an app button. What's the big deal? Facebook color is that blue. Default OS is white. I don't even have an iPhone and I know this.
But I think the departure from the solid colored blocks towards the colored strokes and text is the wrong way to go because of how much more subtle it is.
The length of the url isn't that big of a deal to me. I just type 'du' and the first url autosuggested is duckduckgo.
Doesn't surprise me really.
It's not hard to be a solid seller on Craiglist because everyone else mostly does a terrible job at it.
Even something like photos for a rental are beyond some peoples capabilities.
