jaden··on Backblaze has stopped backing up OneDrive and Dropbox folders and maybe others
Was it Snoopy waiting instead of Linus?

jaden··on The pleasures of poor product design
The sharp angle of the bridge would dig into your nose.
jaden··on Show HN: Deff – Side-by-side Git diff review in your terminal
Is it that different from downloading and running a binary?
jaden··on I Built a Browser Flight Simulator Using Three.js and CesiumJS
This is great! It deserves more visibility with a Show HN.
jaden··on Sergey Brin's Unretirement
It's interesting to hear about his experience, but I'm not sure if it's typical. There are millions of people retiring each year, presumably many are happy to be done with the drudgery of work and excited to spend time on hobbies and projects they enjoy.

I'm curious to know how many retirees end up like Sergey and how many you don't hear about because they're too busy enjoying their retirement.

jaden··on Show HN: Prism.Tools – Free and privacy-focused developer utilities
I love these kinds of collections but often don't recall the site in the moment I have a task they could fulfill.

To combat that I've been self-hosting https://github.com/CorentinTh/it-tools which has a lot of overlap with these tools and might provide some ideas.

https://github.com/ksdme/ut is a rust CLI with a similar purpose.

jaden··on Show HN: I built an interactive HN Simulator
The posts are submitted by humans, only the comments are AI.
jaden··on Why Nextcloud feels slow to use
I too have found Syncthing + Filebrowser to be a sufficient substitute for Dropbox.
jaden··on Ask HN: Custom domain name for personal email?
I found the domain I use by searching for {word}mail.com among expired domains (e.g. expireddomains.net) or new domains (e.g. https://leandomainsearch.com/search/?q=mail)
jaden··on Making any integer with four 2s
No need to feel dummy, I was about to ask the exact same question.
jaden··on What are the best online activities to do with friends remotely?
From the guidelines

> Please don't use HN primarily for promotion. It's ok to post your own stuff part of the time, but the primary use of the site should be for curiosity.

jaden··on Bitwarden is turning 2FA on by default for new devices
I get the desire to make the Bitwarden login more secure, but this is very likely to cause problems for users who don't have their email password memorized. 2FA already carries the burden of needing a backup if you lose your phone. This change means users will need to come up with an alternate way to log in to their email account. I'm not sure it's worth it.
jaden··on Cruise vehicle gets stuck in wet concrete while driving in San Francisco
Same with Brave and Firefox on desktop
jaden··on Tailscale doesn't want your password
It gets even more complicated if you use 2FA with your email provider.
jaden··on Ask HN: What Do You Pay For?
I used to only use free services. Then a few shut down, so I started paying for services to help support them.

- Fastmail

- TickTick

- Bitwarden family

- Dynalist - Personal knowledge management

- Several servers & domains for self-hosting

- Laravel Forge - server management

- Hetrixtools - Uptime monitor

- Bunny.net - CDN

- Anonaddy - Email aliases

- Standard Notes

jaden··on From Ugly to Beautiful
Just a note that the plugin is considered beta:

> Per the primary purpose of the plugin...it can mostly be considered a beta testing plugin.

jaden··on Bing ChatGTP demands an apology from user for claiming it's 2023
This reminds me of the Verizon debacle where the user couldn't convince the customer service reps that 0.002 cents is not the same as 0.002 dollars. It was hilarious to hear the phone calls, but would have been maddening to experience. Arguing with an AI about the year is funny, until it's you arguing with it after you were billed for an extra 10 months of service.
jaden··on RustDesk – Remote desktop software, written in Rust
Could you share what you use?
jaden··on Tell HN: Wordle now needs an account to pay
Same. I just tried in an incognito window and didn't have to log in to play today's Wordle.
jaden··on Summer Afternoon – A WebGL Experiment
I'm amazed how well it works on mobile. So smooth!
jaden··on Silver Bullet: Markdown-based extensible open source personal knowledge platform
Have you come across a faster solution for syncing lots of small files?
jaden··on Tell HN: VPN Situation in Iran
I don't have personal experience with this, but https://getoutline.org/ is designed to be resistant to blocking and may be worth trying.
jaden··on Use Bookmarklets on Chrome on Android (2020)
This is doubly frustrating when the spec explicitly says CSP shouldn't interfere with bookmarklets.

> Policy enforced on a resource SHOULD NOT interfere with the operation of user-agent features like addons, extensions, or bookmarklets.

jaden··on Cloudflare Hardware Keys (Yubico Partnership)
Looks like the deal was so good it sold out.

> Thank you for the amazing response, Microsoft Ignite attendees! Due to overwhelming response to this special offer, our limited time offer and supply have been redeemed.

jaden··on DuckDuckGo email protection beta now open
SimpleLogin was recently acquired by Proton [1]. I'm hoping nothing changes, but you never know.

jaden··on Disney Plus to Raise Prices by $3 a Month as It Launches Tier with Ads
https://reelgood.com/ works well for this.
jaden··on Syncthing Anywhere with Tailscale
I wish I could help you, but I couldn't get Syncthing to start up so I ended up clearing the app storage and set up the devices and folder shares again. It wasn't too bad. If you have a backup you could try restoring from that in settings. I tried changing the IP back in config.xml but I couldn't browse to the file location using my file browsing app and gave up.
jaden··on Syncthing Anywhere with Tailscale
I just recently tried using Tailscale IPs for all Syncthing nodes to add some privacy. It worked fine except for the Android phone, where Syncthing tried to start on the Tailscale static IP but hung because it wasn't available. That and having Tailscale use a significant amount of battery has convinced me to leave the Android connections dynamic.
jaden··on Inbox, diary, to-do list: now choose just two
I liked that too and was hoping to find a link to a PDF. The URLs on the page are colored so similarly to the text I could barely tell when there were links. Does anyone happen to know if that sheet is available anywhere?
