jachee··on When AI Builds Itself: Our progress toward recursive self-improvement
Good, Fast, Cheap.

Pick any two.

jachee··on When AI Builds Itself: Our progress toward recursive self-improvement
That sounds like a your-system issue. I hit Win+E (admittedly on an old Win10 box) and it instantly pops up an explorer window.

They literally can’t go full-transparency. I know a high-level insider, and the fact is that even the folks implementing things don’t actually know how it works, only that it does, and how to get it to generally behave.

…which is why it’s led to more than zero suicides.
jachee··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
That is a management failure.

And a management failure should not result in unpaid (slave) labor.

jachee··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
This is an inherently human problem.

Those are exceedingly difficult to solve via technology.

jachee··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
No. Management will take and take and take during “crunch time” then immediately layoff large chunks of staff before they give anything back.

It’s happened scores of times. No company is as loyal to its labor as it expects labor to be to it.

jachee··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
Easy: No one should do unpaid labor. Period. “Crunch time” has traditionally been deployed by games management as a license to free slave labor from game developers.

Failures of management’s planning are imposed as emergencies on the devs.

jachee··on Was my $48K GPU server worth it?
Nono, parent was asking “They’re bad and inefficient at that, so why have an LLM do math? Why not just use some code and the CPU/GPU that’s already good and efficient at basic math?”
jachee··on ReactOS
Heh… Wait ‘til I tell him that his beloved macOS is Unix underneath.
jachee··on ReactOS
Out of pure curiosity, what do you “very much dislike” about it?
jachee··on LinkedIn is scanning browser extensions
You’re already looking at it, buddy.
jachee··on We found a stable Firefox identifier linking all your private Tor identities
Any method of “fingerprinting” and invading a browser’s privacy is inherently an exploit.
jachee··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
That “pointing out” is, itself, “not useful either.”
jachee··on Bouncer: Block "crypto", "rage politics", and more from your X feed using AI
Incorrect. William Gibson does. And he’s definitely worth listening to.
jachee··on Bouncer: Block "crypto", "rage politics", and more from your X feed using AI
Bluesky has a default feed that is just the posts/reposts of the people who you choose to follow, in reverse chronological order.

No need for an algorithm to decide what is worth seeing.

jachee··on The Claude Code Leak
Hmm… this started as an admonition for using then and than interchangeably. I see folks get it wrong unintentionally a lot… then i re-read your parenthetical and pulled up etymonline and had my mind blown a bit.[0]

Seems everything old is new again.

jachee··on Claude Code runs Git reset –hard origin/main against project repo every 10 mins
Because it’s just fancy auto-complete.
jachee··on Flighty Airports
Yeah, but a $5 VPS won't suddenly surprise you with a five-figure bill.
jachee··on ARC-AGI-3
Also, let's see if we can get the power and compute requirements brought down. Having to spin up a gigawatt power plant to achieve the same intelligence we humans power with sandwiches is a futile approach, imho.
jachee··on Two pilots dead after plane and ground vehicle collide at LaGuardia
Pilot Unions should go on strike until ATC is properly staffed at every level, since Regan made it illegal for ATC themselves to go on strike.
jachee··on Illinois Introducing Operating System Account Age Bill
“Impossible to get a man to understand a thing, when his paycheck depends on his not understanding it.”
jachee··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
Oh, and I forgot to mention the ironically-named (so much of their stuff is ironically-named…) “SAVE” Act, that’s set to disrupt the process even further by having “AI” purge voter registration rolls.
jachee··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
The ones where they’re going to send brownshirts to intimidate voters in blue states? The ones they’re going to try to disrupt like Dallas County last night? The ones they’ve trying desperately to Gerrymander to lock down their dictatorial power? Those elections?

It really feels like they’re trying hard to change the rules so that they’re the only ones who can win, to be just like their idol/puppeteer in Russia.

And it feels like an external intervention is one of the only things that may help.

jachee··on MacBook Neo
Less-so if you do it in Safari than using a non-Apple browser.
jachee··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
As an American, I’m really starting to feel that way.
jachee··on NASA announces overhaul of Artemis program amid safety concerns, delays
SpaceX also has a nepo-billionaire’s disposable hobby budget, while NASA’s has been cut to the marrow.
jachee··on We Will Not Be Divided

The first 17 of those are all variations on “make words”. :P
jachee··on NASA announces overhaul of Artemis program amid safety concerns, delays
First Time NASA did that was how we got Apollo I and lost three astronauts.

They learned a few lessons, but then 1986 they let “getting things perfect” slip a bit more. It’s happened a few times since.

Personally, I’d rather not lose any more astronauts.
