Printing hello world is a syscall - you need that to write to STDOUT .

There are alternative to syscall. For example, writing to shared memory. Shared memory as IPC is hard. And you need some syscall to set the memory up.. .

j16sdiz··on Greg K-H: "Writing new code in Rust is a win for all of us"
The response addressed Christoph's concerns _in word_.

According to the policy, rust folks should fix the rust binding when C changes breaks the binding. The C maintainer don't need to care rust, at all.

In practice, though, I would expect this needs lots of coordination. A PR with C only changes that breaks the whole building (because rust binding is broken) is unlikely to be merged to mainline.

Linus can reiterate his policy, but the issue can't be resolved without some rust developers keep on their persistent work and builds up their reputation.

j16sdiz··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
For auditing, you keep the data intact. you keep the people around in case if anything you don't understand or can't find

Change the data, Firing everybody , leave no way to contact them, this is not auditing.

IMO, this sounds totally like what happened in China.

Trump will get his unchallenged power like Xi or Mao did.

AlphaFold helps the _design_ problem. ... but, How good are we at synthesizing the actual protein?

Unless there are some breakthrough recently, Looks like we can't really do it at scale. Doing a few in lab setting is possible, but you can't really use them in drug.

Upvoted because it provide more context, not because I agree these are good reason.

j16sdiz··on YouTube asks channel owner to verify phone, permanently overwrites personal info
On the operation side of things, requiring phone number greatly reduce throwaway accounts and spam. You can't kill all spam, but it is down to a manageable level.

Yes, some legitimate user can't sign up. Depends on what business you are in, and how much budget you put into spam/abuse prevention, this may or may not make sense.

Thanks for your research.

Random googling shows lots of people have similar question, and most of time the tread just die out without answer.

phicdn.net as a privacy-protected domain from godaddy sure make the case more suspicious.

DigiCert (or whatever the owner piecdn is) could have save us lots of time just publishing that information on their website.

> 2. Copyright's basis is "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts".

This is what the US constitution say. There are more legal theory than the US constitution. In fact, the idea of copyright predates the US constitution.

For example, the "Labor theory of copyright" [1] argue copyright is a exclusive right because every individual has a right to the product of their labor.

Incorrect. GDPR does allow foreign government, as long as they have similar protection as GDPR, process the data for law enforcement and criminal investigation.

I am not sure about this one. Trump is pushing the rest of world to take side.

Panama, as displeased as it can be, choose to end the belt-and-road thing.

> China can replace them with internal consumption and developing world markets that are rapidly growing.

internal consumption: They tried. and kind of failed.

developing world markets: They are winning on this one, agreed.

j16sdiz··on Suspension of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong
DHL/FedEx do lots of declaration/tax work for imported packages. More often than not, they inspects the package before sealing.

USPS don't -- they simply forward from HongKongPost or ChinaPost. If the local post office in HK or CN does not cooperation, they can't do anything.

j16sdiz··on Suspension of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong
No.

USPS forwards packages from HongKong Post and China Post -- they don't have direct relationship with the shipper.

FedEX/DHL, otoh, have their local office in HongKong and China, they help the customer do declaration and inspect them before seal.

When FexEX/DHL package got the declaration wrong, they got fined. When USPS package got the declaration wrong, they are hand-tied.

j16sdiz··on Suspension of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong
(declaimer: I am from Hong Kong, and have worked on some import tax/declaration system)

Import tax and tariff relies on clear and accurate import declaration.

For DHL/FexEx imported package, you can fine them when the declaration isn't right.

For USPS imported package, you can't fine USPS -- they didn't know what's in package when it arrive. You can't fine Hong Kong Post or China Post, because they are not US entities. Rejecting parcel in bulk is one of the reasonable option if they can't get the shipper fill in the correct declaration form.

j16sdiz··on Our channel on YouTube has been deleted due to “spam and deceptive policies”
Or just an update in yourtube's new algorithm.

YouTube have 114 million active channels. A small error rate of 0.001% would kill 1000 channels.
