If its small gig of 5-10 bucks, just try few gigs. if it is for a long term job, you need to vet them throughly with related questions and paid assignments.
Still it will never exceed $1k.
I have read many mains of Linus where he specifically rants about the need of avoiding kernel panic, he specfically points what not to do in those mails. Certainly worth reading to understand this mail.
I think its just a PR stunt by TSMC, to overprice and prebook their production capacity for increased margins.
