ivoallasap··on Show HN: Carmadillo – A Chrome and Firefox extension to locate and unlock cars
I think what would be interesting is whether this could be used for doing on demand stuff for the car, like trunk delivery the way that its done here: https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=17051031011
ivoallasap··on My App received 580 Upvotes on Product Hunt. This is how I did it
Nice job! Did you also share the post on Product Hunt? I recall a company having a botched launch because any upvotes they got from sharing the link weren't counted.
ivoallasap··on Sleep myths 'damaging your health'
Chamomile too. Just spray it on your pillow before bed and it totally sets you up for the first phase of your sleep routine.

Apparently, it doesn't just work for me! https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/health/sleep/a707967/this...

ivoallasap··on The Healing Power of Gardens
That's great to hear. I think being in a place where you can see seasonal change also has a calming and humbling effect. The wisteria in the springtime, the beautiful colors of the leaves in autumn - being around those changes in your natural habitat can be destressing and comforting, as they show that life and the natural world still goes on around you.
ivoallasap··on Sleep myths 'damaging your health'
No, but I think another prevalent one is the "you need less sleep as you get older." Just skimmed this piece on sleep and aging also points out some interesting variables when it comes to how people report their sleep based on race, gender, etc.

I realize this sounds hokey, but the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is phenomenal.
ivoallasap··on Once it was easy to be obscure, but technology has ended that
I agree that it's shocking to see how indifferent people are, but I think an even bigger issue is the detriment a lack of privacy might have for mental health. For a lot of people (myself included), there's a visceral repulsion to having other people know things about you that you didn't consent to sharing. It's even worse when there are multiple other entities profiting from that.

There's also the fact that so many people who have grown up posting anything and everything don't have an easy way to easily remove things that they've posted. While there's a lot of interesting stuff on the right to be forgotten in the EU, I think we're really lagging behind in the US. So far, only California is making some forward strides. [0]

ivoallasap··on Facebook CEO Zuckerberg Leveraged User Data to Help Friends and Punish Rivals
1. Is anyone shocked? 2. The conversation on data privacy has got to start including some dialogue on actual value that's being given back to the consumer using the product. I don't think 'getting the opportunity to use the tool' or 'you can choose not to use Facebooks' hold a lot of water, because the consent process is flawed and not transparent. Not that it could ever conceivably happen, but imagine if you could visualize the ultimate monetization of your data by Facebook on sign up. There's just such a massive disconnect between what you get and how much you're profited from as a Facebook user.
ivoallasap··on The Skill Tree Principle: An Innovative Way to Grow Your Skills Efficiently
Cool piece. I think there's a difference between growing/picking up skills and mastering them though that isn't covered. For instance, with aesthetic skills (drawing, sketching), I think you need to have some degree of innate creativity, or an eye, to truly become a master. It's the reason why only a few students that were apprentices to the Great Renaissance Painters went on to become famous artists themselves. There were many, many artists in the bottegas of Da Vinci or Rubens who were able to copy and distribute works like those artists, but never paint masterpieces. (https://www.artspace.com/magazine/art_101/art_market/the-evo...)

It's just one example, but I think there a lot of other principles that become a part of "Skill Trees," including collaboration, the environment you're learning in, and maybe an element of innate talent that means you never have to break down the skill.
