ivm··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
What about conservation? On my land, after clearing a bit around the house for fire safety and "pest" prevention, I kept most of the native rainforest. I planted a few syntropic lines of fruit trees, but they cannot cover the land tax I already pay. All my gardening and land management at large is a money sink (unless we consider touching grass an investment).
ivm··on Apple has added persistent 'ads' to iOS, and it's driving users crazy
"Your" chat consists of other people's messages too and they own those. You can also delete your messages on Discord or Slack – it's quite normal as a feature.

The first one is excellent though, I wish all messengers had it.
ivm··on Cyclomatic Complexity in C#
Yes, I do that too, but the value of a gate is that there's a tedious deterministic process which is the same every time. So it is harder for agents, including the reviewing ones, to stray and invent things or miss something.
ivm··on Cyclomatic Complexity in C#
I made CC part of my deterministic quality gate[0] for agents. Not sure how much of it is placebo, but overall I've seen the gate catch a lot of cases where the agent strayed from the constraints of the particular project.

ivm··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Yes, native .NET without MAUI is great for that. I have my app running with MvvmCross and two native UIs on iOS and Android since 2018, with hundreds of thousands of installs.

> The only thing that need radical change is iOS.

Please, not again.

ivm··on Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one
Surprised by the rest of the comments because I genuinely like Finder more than any other file manager I've used. I run it in column mode all the time. Space-to-QuickLook is also amazing.
ivm··on There's no reason for software to be slow anymore
It takes about 6 seconds to get the site fully rendered on MacBook Air 2017 in Chile. HN is slightly above 1 second in comparison.
ivm··on Show HN: C# Game Engine with its own scripting language and IDE
Yes, I guess a big part I skipped is that it may not be such a good fit for action games, where asset-dependent interactions, such as collisions, can affect the game model.

But games closer to the tabletop end of the spectrum (think strategy, puzzles, etc.) are basically apps: they're not doing much in the world itself, but rather rendering it based on the existing state and accepting user input to modify that state.

ivm··on Show HN: C# Game Engine with its own scripting language and IDE
I've also been making a game engine based on MonoGame (and prime31/Nez), and one thing I recommend looking into is headless mode for both the game and the editor. I started my engine in the first place because I want to get back into gamedev, but there's no way I'm going back to the convoluted editor-centered workflow of Unity/Godot. And with proper MVVM, you can get the game headless too, so agents can play without the UI and run thousands of simulations of the gameplay.

Overall, MVVM should be getting a renaissance because of how well it determines the layers and data flow for AI. I have multiple projects using it, and even in early 2025, models had almost no issues understanding my code and implementing new features. Now I set up MVVM-inspired headless architectures including for Swift or React Native projects and it works like a charm.

ivm··on Mysteries of Telegram Data Centers (2022)
AvaloniaUI has their community in Telegram, and there are other tech ones. Endless meme channels in different languages too. Also, most of Russian-speaking emigrant groups & news channels are in Telegram, some of them with tens of thousands of participants.
ivm··on Japanese verb conjugation the simple hard way
Spanish is not that bad: the conjugations are not gendered, while there are fewer than 20 major irregular patterns and about a dozen especially quirky verbs that you have to memorize in a few tenses (there are no 100% irregular verbs, most have at least some regular forms).

ivm··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
> You see the dawn of this age everywhere, from Iran to online age verification regimes, and this is only the beginning. This is why the world ahead will feel medieval in structure while remaining hypermodern and even futuristic in technology. It is a Frank Herbert world. It will be organized around overlapping zones of protection, extraction, and controlled access, rather than around universal inclusion into a single normative space.

ivm··on Apple WWDC 2026
Yeah, I'm struggling to find a wallpaper that looks good under the transparent menu bar + the vertical dock on the right. So now it's almost black solid color.
ivm··on Magnifica Humanitas
HN Guidelines: Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize.
ivm··on Magnifica Humanitas
The events you mention still took place within the Abrahamic framework of thought. Ideas like a linear timeline progressing from A to B (rather than a cyclical one) or utopian political projects bringing final justice to society are Abrahamic in nature.

So I agree with the grandparent comment: unless one takes the time to study and truly understand other belief systems, it's hard to see how Western "secular" schools of thought remain Christian because we're submerged in them since childhood.

ivm··on C# in Unity 2026: Writing more modern code
Probably MonoGame is the best option for your case then
ivm··on French e, è, é, ê, ë – what's the difference?
México is because of the old orthography, before it was Don Quixote too.
ivm··on I'm OK being left behind, thanks
FWIW I easily moved from ActionScript game development for Facebook to Objective-C game development for iPhone, riding both hype waves as a result. So, it was a decent tech pick in 2007-2009.
ivm··on Show HN: Three new Kitten TTS models – smallest less than 25MB
Spanish would be great, there's a serious lack of Spanish TTS on Android compared to iOS and the quality is not the best.
ivm··on Ask HN: How is AI-assisted coding going for you professionally?
Same here. It makes indies a one-man army again, like in the good old days before the complexity explosion of the 2010s.
ivm··on Marketing for Founders
It did not work even before AI. The rise of "indie hacking" in the late 2010s brought in thousands of hustlers creating similar lists, and many of them were simply selling shovels to other indie hackers (including the lists themselves). By the time of the pandemic, the "submit to every directory & community" strategy was already useless.
ivm··on Digg is gone again
Because there's no real discussion in such broad communities. Only jokes, generic replies, and silly fights. They're equivalent to comment sections on news sites.
ivm··on Digg is gone again
There strategy did not make any sense: only a few pre-approved broad-and-shallow forums about everything instead of trying to attract niche communities from Reddit or even FB Groups.
ivm··on Adobe Animate will be discontinued
Yes, Rive launched scripting last year
ivm··on Vitamin D and Omega-3 have a larger effect on depression than antidepressants
Quick search shows various infographics: green tea at 20–35 mg, black tea at 45–50 mg, espresso at 45–75 mg, and instant at 60-80 mg on average. The day I feel anything close from a cup of black tea to what I get from an instant coffee or a quarter of a pure caffeine pill, I might start trusting those numbers, but for now I see them as nonsense that tries to present as science.
ivm··on Vitamin D and Omega-3 have a larger effect on depression than antidepressants
> There is nothing special about tea that breaks the rules of caffeine.

There's definitely something special, just poorly studied: typical "how much caffeine is in X?" tables show tea having caffeine levels similar to coffee, but I never feel the same effects.

> Caffeine pills generally have really high dosages, FYI.

I use 200 mg tablets split into quarters for doses of 50–100 mg. Yet, they produce a much milder curve than coffee (which I no longer drink) and, as a side effect, cause no gastrointestinal side effects!

ivm··on Apple to soon take up to 30% cut from all Patreon creators in iOS app
Yes, I have the same app on iOS and Android, and for a long time it brought in half the revenue on Android for twice the effort (really messy SDK combined with too many OS versions and devices). Lately the gap has been closing, but it's still roughly 40% Android and 60% iOS, though I have slightly more installs on iOS.
ivm··on Vitamin D and Omega-3 have a larger effect on depression than antidepressants
Tea, especially green tea, doesn’t have the same caffeine bioavailability as coffee – otherwise people would abuse it just as much as coffee.

I’m quite sensitive to caffeine, yet I can drink green tea all day without noticing much effect, while even a light coffee or a caffeine pill is clearly noticeable. I can also drink tea before going to sleep without any problems.
