ivanbrussik··on Why I won't get a Google+ Custom URL
facebook - choose whatever username you want

HN - choose whatever username you want

twitter - choose whatever username you want

reddit - choose whatever username you want

tumblr - choose whatever username you want

Google+ - we choose it for you, you can't change it, we might charge you for it, and we might also take it away at some point

also - why does G+ need to insert the /u/0 after the domain name? twitter, facebook and the rest you can simply type domain.com/username but G+ just needs to make it so much less user friendly.

ivanbrussik··on Co-Founder of Youtube makes his first comment in 8 years
For the past 5 years I've been appalled by the amount of SPAM being generated on YT. Like this cute baby, then you'll love Ivans P800X Weightloss System 4.0. 56 thumbs up. Top comment. Every video.

I'm sure Google knew this was going to cause a stir. Every major interfact change that FB does causes mass outrage and even groups like "get 100,000 likes to petition for mark zuckerberg to switch back to the old FB" and such.

a lot of the pissed off ppl (not all) are the anonymous cowards that liked to hide behind throwaway identities, spammers, and people that generally like to read meaningless comments.

I am also an active G+ user and really enjoy several communities and groups that are of interest to me. What's really missing is the mainstream market: pics from last night, pet photos, moms, teens, etc. right now it is mainly super interweb savvy people who are active because they know how serious google is about G+

as a channel owner I am stoked about the change. i dont like getting used to new interfaces any more than the next person but I can definitely see how this will add a ton of value to my channel and YT in general.

ivanbrussik··on Introducing Google Helpouts
interesting, we'll see if consumers pick this up. I personally just think it is somehow another way to funnel people into G+.

ivanbrussik··on Show HN: A Better Facebook Mobile App
Obvious question: Android or iPhone?

Either way I am going to give it a try, I personally hate Facebook's default app and really hope this works out.

ivanbrussik··on Daylight Saving Time Is Terrible: Here's a Simple Plan to Fix It
totally agree with that. I'd say one of the main reasons it hasn't happened is there are way too many software/operating system patches to roll out and would cause way too much chaos.
ivanbrussik··on Twitter’s Lack of Patents Seen as a Risk to Investors
If Twitter were on Shark Tank right now, Mark and Robert and MR Wonderful would be out due to lack of patent.
ivanbrussik··on My dad unexpectedly uses my Linux laptop to get real work done
I've been using Linux since Redhat 4.0, whatever kernal version that was. I've always been a "desktop" user but very much know my way around bash and can throw together pipes and scripts.

Last week I setup a fresh Ubuntu box in our office, on a fairly new Dell PC in order to view a webinar. I wanted to show off Linux (ended up looking like a moron.)

Flash issues on Firefox rightaway, no matter what I did it would not let me full screen a YT video in the second monitor. Finally I figured a hack to F11 full screen the browser window and it let me.

Next the sound wouldn't work and I had to apt-get for another 10 minutes, then spend another 2 minutes editing som config file. Somehow it worked.

I freaking LOVE Linux and will always love it, but it has a very long way to go until it can ship on any device.

ivanbrussik··on Social sharing service Buffer has been hacked, pauses all shares temporarily
thank god it was spam, and not pr0n. also thank god I use hootsuite.
ivanbrussik··on Google Should Buy Twitter Before The IPO
These claims that people make about Google+ are ridiculous. Sure, if you count account sign-ups then they are probably #1 but active users...no way.

"Google+’s user numbers are juiced simply because Google forces the product on everyone, and if you use Google to authenticate yourself to third parties, you are using Google+"

I feel the same way, I know a lot of people online that use Google+, but zero of my IRL friends use Google+ (most use FB, Instagram and Twitter).

ivanbrussik··on What happened to Priceonomics?
thank you for answering, your mentions tracker program must be working. I understand that blog traffic trumped your price guide, and you love it, and it brings in more money but did you ever think of your user/customer? it seems as though just from this thread and the tweet that was linked (amongst myself) there are a number of users that saw tremendous value in what you do. ever thought of turning the price guide into some sort of UGC engine powered by the people and moderated by a thin staff?
ivanbrussik··on What happened to Priceonomics?
what the heck! this is preposterous. i wonder what "seo genius" decided that this was a good idea. hmmm lets totally get rid of the #1 reason why users hit our site and replace it with "seo friendly" articles.

edit: and im not saying that having a blog is bad, but to completely hide the main functionality of the site just doesnt make any sense.

ivanbrussik··on Contractors See Weeks of Work on Health Site
they might be exaggerating that by including all of the respective libraries used etc, or just exaggerating in general (like the gvt tends to do)
ivanbrussik··on What the SEO? – The shady world of small business SEO
the title tag of this is misleading - this is some sort of scammer, not a "small business SEO company."

ivanbrussik··on Ask HN: How to identify a website built with Bootstrap?
I'd also like to suggest a really cool browser plugin called Wappalyzer. Its really good (ok, kind of decent) at guessing the platforum of a website and will even guess plugins, frameworks, CMS, web server and I think sometimes even host.
