Or turn you into a temporary vegetable so law enforcement can come pick you up.

iszomer··on CT scans of AirPods evolution
So much packaged sophistication yet can't match high fidelity audio.

I picked up a KZ-ZSN with a pair of dynamic and balanced armature drivers and haven't looked back in terms of sound quality. Imagine my surprise when I purchased another pair with 4BA + 1DD..

Both were under $30.

To each their own I guess.

iszomer··on Goodbye Brave
Got conned by BAT and have a growing sentiment that by continuing to use Brave, I'm enabling the company to make back the advertising earnings promised; I refuse to do KYC to redeem them.
iszomer··on Quake 1 gets its first major co-op content update in 25 years
Seal of Nehahra was an excellent machinima, especially when the entire voice acting was done by one person, iirc. Scourge Done Slick [1,2] is also another well done machinima/film showcasing the speedrunning community.

iszomer··on Wanted: A Town Willing to Host a Dump for U.S. Nuclear Waste
"Clean energy" always has it's drawbacks. TIL the issues with the Yucca Mountain Range Nuclear Waste Repository is still being disputed in the state of Nevada.
iszomer··on Twitter has a new CEO – what about a new business model?
If it's really about neutral authentication, tweet a keybase identity proof.
iszomer··on Twitter has a new CEO – what about a new business model?
Wouldn't it be amusing if Twitter started doing verified red badges to signify Republicans? I guess if they really want to be all-inclusive, allow users to customize their badge colors too.

(I didn't know what a blue checkmark was until I turned off dark mode)

iszomer··on Google Chromium, sans integration with Google
Took a few hours to compile on a ryzen 2600.

Worth it until the next "update", I think.

iszomer··on The Media's Verdict on Kyle Rittenhouse
They've never watched the 1957 courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men and it's 1997 remake.
iszomer··on Judge bans NBC from Kenosha courthouse after report of producer following jurors
I think some will initially see this as an attempt at jury tampering.
iszomer··on Why NFTs are bad: the short version
There's a growing popularity (community?) for art NFT's on alternative blockchains like Tezos with Hicetnunc mainly due to Ethereum's barrier of entry and restrictively high gas fees.
iszomer··on The WeeCee – Tiny Vortex86-Based DOS Gaming PC
It was particularly amusing to see the Windows installation identify it as a Cyrix* processor.
iszomer··on Ivermectin: Much More Than You Wanted to Know
I know this is a false equivalence argument but one might frame vaccine hesitancy as simply people unwilling to be mandated to inject anything into their bodies. Can you imagine if the government sought to mandate heroine injection as the only standard way of pain relief? That's what I think most average people think about when they are "vaccine hesitant".
iszomer··on .plan
Indeed! Lots of cowsay moments..
iszomer··on Hacking Ham Radio for Texting
Then again, there are people who police themselves and others. Here's an interesting story about an investigation into a camouflaged jammer:

iszomer··on Ivermectin: Much More Than You Wanted to Know
> Could you provide some sources to substantiate your viewpoint?

I cannot as I'm only learning of this now and reflecting on what I've known from before. Trump directing "the EPA to remove statements about climate change" is largely irrelevant (to me personally) when there are active industries apart from politics that are striving for "greener" technologies.

Take for example the transition from Toyota's hybrid vehicles to Tesla's or, solar array proliferation seen from Google Maps timeline.

iszomer··on Ivermectin: Much More Than You Wanted to Know
> The viewpoint you're responding to is the GOP strategy, not a viewpoint derived from facts.

I wondered about this too but wasn't aware this is a "GOP strategy". In contrast, I only responded because I'm still wrapping my head around a Michael Malice quote:

"Conservatism is progressivism with speed limits."

iszomer··on Ivermectin: Much More Than You Wanted to Know
> Now, the GOP has leaned into anti-scientist, anti-elitist sentiments, fed by Fox News and others..

I wouldn't fault them for your view of their broad sentiments on this trend but I think if you went back over the last twenty years, these sentiments were more often aligned for the left-wing.

iszomer··on .plan
Fun trivia: iirc, John Carmack used his .plan as his then "blog" before Twitter came along.
iszomer··on Brave Wallet: a secure crypto wallet, built natively in a web3 browser
What they don't tell you about BAT is that you cannot extract or trade the ERC20 without first going through their authorized 3rd-party custodial wallet service with KYC and your "earnings" don't accrue in your native Brave wallet either.
iszomer··on Assume everyone is stupid, lazy and possibly insane, including you
That is what I missed after lurking on HN for so long since it's inception: the willingness to read comments, however good or bad (and articulate) they are.
iszomer··on Briar 1.4 – Offline sharing, message transfer via SD cards and USB sticks
Prior to all this cloud madness, I used to rely on a WiFi Direct app called HitcherNet and later, Superbeam. But when it came to actually syncing across a network, I've settled on Syncthing.
iszomer··on How the U.S. hid an airstrike that killed dozens of civilians in Syria

iszomer··on World’s first USB-C iPhone sells on eBay for $86,001
> Why do you believe that to be true?

I don't but I think it has the potential to be framed that way. If your phone was seized by law enforcement looking to extract your personal data, I imagine "plugging it in" will be the first thing they try.

iszomer··on Ask HN: How do you back up your Android phone?
I do this as well and it is the main reason that's keeping me from upgrading beyond Android 10.
iszomer··on Ask HN: How do you back up your Android phone?
The catch with Titanium Backup is that it requires root access.
iszomer··on World’s first USB-C iPhone sells on eBay for $86,001
It could also be argued as "more secure" if traditional wired data exfiltration is hindered by the lack of ports.
iszomer··on Making the dislike count private across YouTube
I feel like the like-dislike button needs to be expanded instead to encompass various the nuances on why you might like or dislike a video.

Something I liked could be as trivial as an enjoyment of said content or a dislike because of it's presentation, or liking content that was presented in poor tastes yet recognizing it's comedic value.

That's not to say I don't recognize that the like-dislike ratio can also be gamed however.
