Would be nice to pair this with some actual real life example ads
isuckatcoding··on Social Security now expected to run short on funds in 2035, one year later
https://www.ssa.gov/oact/trsum/#:~:text=The%20Trustees%20pro....

Not sure why the media is running this title but from the official report:

“ The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund will be able to pay 100 percent of total scheduled benefits until 2033, unchanged from last year's report. At that time, the fund's reserves will become depleted and continuing program income will be sufficient to pay 79 percent of scheduled benefits”

Nintendo already salivating at the thought of a cease and desist because well…Nintendo.
isuckatcoding··on OpenCat: Open-source robotic pet quadruped framework
Real pets looking nervously around…

In seriousness this is really cool! I wish I had this in school for robotics learning.

This just sent it in an infinite loop of open puter

isuckatcoding··on Show HN: Vx.dev – GitHub-Powered AI for effortless development
I was wondering when someone would do this.

I’ve been waiting for a solution like this since GitHub copilot came out. It seems like a natural extension.

isuckatcoding··on Vistex CEO Sanjay Shah dies on stage after freak accident
Hmm maybe there’s less dangerous and less proud ways to celebrate.

Apparently money does make people do stupid things.

isuckatcoding··on Litestream – Opensource disaster recovery and continuous replication for SQLite
Maybe this is just how all databases are but the caveats here give me some anxiety: https://litestream.io/tips/
isuckatcoding··on NY Governor vetoes ban on noncompete clauses, waters down LLC transparency bill
Vetoes ban non (compete). This triple negative is definitely not confusing.
isuckatcoding··on Hubless-wheel electric penny farthing is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece
Actually it might be safer in some sense because it’s more visible and more so for those crazy monster trucks on the roads that are 12ft high
isuckatcoding··on Biscuit authorization
Im not trying to be annoying but I still don’t get it. It might be easier for me with some examples. I’m sure when folks start using this, it’ll be more clear.
isuckatcoding··on Biscuit authorization
Really cool concept but having a really hard time understanding the datalog language and the semantics.

Like specifically what is the difference between check if and allow if?

isuckatcoding··on Launch HN: Bracket (YC W22) – Two-Way Sync Between Salesforce and Postgres

You should get this merged into awslocal

Edit: uh never mind https://docs.localstack.cloud/user-guide/aws/ses/

isuckatcoding··on Summing columns in remote Parquet files using DuckDB
Ok that seems like magic. How is it able to only read a subset of the data like that? Is this because of the parquet file format?

Also can the same thing work for files hosted on s3?

isuckatcoding··on Building a high performance JSON parser
Usually because the downstream service or store needs it
isuckatcoding··on Building a high performance JSON parser
Yes but for applications where you need to do ETL style transformations on large datasets, streaming is an immensely useful strategy.

Sure you could argue go isn’t the right tool for the job but I don’t see why it can’t be done with the right optimizations like this effort.

isuckatcoding··on Building a high performance JSON parser
This is fantastically useful.

Funny enough I stumbled upon your article just yesterday through google search.

isuckatcoding··on Flawless – Durable execution engine for Rust
I kinda wanted to see it fail at the http execution phase because that’s much more common due to timeouts when call external endpoints.
isuckatcoding··on Flawless – Durable execution engine for Rust
I’ve seen a couple of these now. Looks like a lot of them take the “we will take your code and compile it”-approach.

That’s not a problem per se but it does affect the ability to debug and see relevant stack traces. Its like how sometimes you see transpiled JS when what you really want is the typescript using source maps.

isuckatcoding··on Ask HN: If GraphQL Is So Great, Why Doesn't Everyone Use It Already?
Not sure this always happens in practice. I’ve seen lots of redundant resolvers being implemented for the same type at work because someone didn’t know one already existed.
