isubkhankulov··on Tell HN: I just updated my wife's Chrome, and uBlock is no longer supported
1password if you are willing to pay for it. If you’re not, Bitwarden is just as good and it’s free / open source.
isubkhankulov··on Introducing S2
Trademark law encourages companies to defend their marks. If they don’t, they may lose the trademark. So Amazon has to write these guys a letter if it wants to defend the s3 trademark.
isubkhankulov··on US egg industry kills 350M chicks a year. New tech offers an alternative
The rotisserie chicken is a loss leader. Costco has publicly said they are happy to “lose” $30-40M a year on them because it drives people to the store and they make the rest up in higher margin products.
isubkhankulov··on Data brokers may be banned from selling your social security number
How will the 5 eyes spy on us if we ban data brokers?
isubkhankulov··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
I think thats already happening in major ways due to online shopping where reviews mean more than brand for some imported goods. Brand names for consumer goods on my Amazon search results are often completely made up and often temporary.
isubkhankulov··on Cops are using AI chatbots to write crime reports. Will they hold up in court?
Using LLMs to write a first draft based on your notes, rephrase and reword existing text is completely different from using an LLM to recall facts in its training data.

isubkhankulov··on Russia's glide bombs devastating Ukraine's cities on the cheap
GPS is indeed jammed. Ordinance in such an environment often relies on interial navigation.
isubkhankulov··on China continues to subsidize deadly fentanyl exports
I can’t help but think that this is all payback to the collective west for the Opium wars of the 19th century.

If so, China won’t stop, even if the US govt asks nicely.

The question is: what will the US do about it?

isubkhankulov··on Finding a new software developer job
The labor supply for doctors is constrained by residency programs after successfully lobbying by the AMA.

https://www.baltimoresun.com/1997/03/01/ama-seeks-limit-on-r...

For lawyers, theres no such constraint and the limiting factor is typically attending law school and successfully getting a job as an attorney. The demand for attorneys is driven mostly by the business world and thus the economy. After the global financial crisis, there was a severe contraction in the demand for lawyers and many had to leave the industry. There are many ex-lawyers and law school-trained professionals who chosen other careers.

isubkhankulov··on Cruise wasn't hiding accident video from regulators – it had bad internet
You are confusing Cruise with Uber in your response. Uber had a safety driver issue. Cruise had an issue with a driverless vehicle dragging a pedestrian.
isubkhankulov··on Kayak's new flight filter allows you to exclude aircraft models
Traveling in a different vehicle than originally intended is not fraud. Rental car companies do this all the time.

Large countries without free market capitalism have much worse safety records for flying from a historical perspective. To be clear, i’m referring to Russia and China.

isubkhankulov··on SEC Statement on the Approval of Spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Products
Gold does. The analogy holds.
isubkhankulov··on SEC Statement on the Approval of Spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Products
I meant that currencies that etfs :)
isubkhankulov··on SEC Statement on the Approval of Spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Products
Paper money and gold through the hawala networks. Both have ETFs.
isubkhankulov··on SEC approves 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs
Irony/sarcasm aside, people buying crypto ETFs from their existing brokerage and retirement accounts would push the price up and in turn make the decentralized network more secure.
isubkhankulov··on Helen Toner shares her side
It’s interesting that she was threatened with being held responsible for violating a fiduciary duty for the for-profit entity while she was sitting on the non-profit board.

Going fwd, I wonder why they cannot convert the structure to a traditional c-corp. Supposedly: “tax issues”.

Whatever problems OpenAI dealt with last week, the current non-profit structure will continue to cause future problems IMO.

isubkhankulov··on Waymo One doubles service area in Phoenix, continues growing in SF
Thanks for those links.

This claim in the Forbes article doesn't make sense to me: "It doesn’t need the money but it does want to learn from how riders interact with a service they are paying for."

Alphabet has been pressured to show more tangible financial results by activist shareholders[1]. Waymo has 2,500 employees. Waymo's annual budget for headcount alone include stock based compensation is over $1B by my estimate.

isubkhankulov··on Bob Lee, former CTO of Square, has died after being stabbed in San Francisco
"homeless and crime" are usually associated with property crime such as larceny.

SF is 4th highest in the United States for larceny rates. Note that larceny is the most frequent type of property crime per the FBI.

isubkhankulov··on Advice on Breaking Up with Co-Founder Ahead of Vesting Cliff
I would treat this like any serious discussion. Be friendly and cordial.

It's basically a "breakup" but you both have the option to stay friends or maintain some form of relationship after you stop working closely together.

You don't have to explain your reasoning right way or ever if you don't want to. You can also frame the past 8 months as a "trial" or "interview" period.

isubkhankulov··on EleutherAI announces it has become a non-profit
The use of the word “basically” means that the previous commenter is saying that Amazon operated like a non-profit because it re-invested the vast majority of its profits.
isubkhankulov··on U.S. military shoots down suspected Chinese surveillance balloon
most news agencies blindly repeat what the local/state/federal government tells them. There’s very little primary research on stories like this.
isubkhankulov··on Design your pricing and tools so you can adapt them later
Startups often underprice their products/services. They discover pricing improvements through experiments, experience and willingness-to-pay surveys. Some try advanced techniques like bundling products. All of the above benefits from flexibility.

One could argue the opposite of your assertion: startups may fail because they dont change their pricing and packages.

Here’s a citation on underpricing: https://www.ycombinator.com/library/7M-most-startups-are-und...

isubkhankulov··on Hermes: An open-source document management system
Have you tried cloudsearch.google.com. It's only available for work accounts. I believe the way it works is, if a document is configured as "searchable" in its permissions or if you opened a document even once, it will show up in Cloudsearch afterward. Assuming access permissions remain.
isubkhankulov··on A startlingly effective pre- and post-workout drink: Nonalcoholic beer
Yes, whole foods has a good selection in the California stores I’ve visited. The days of bad tasting non-alcoholic beers like O’Douls are behind us thankfully.
isubkhankulov··on Startup childhood – Tiny startups are not Google-in-miniature-form
A few exceptions come to mind after reading this:

Large robotics organizations such as self-driving car startups. They currently operate relatively independently under large multi-national corporations.

They have all the trappings of a post-PMF startup like org charts, titles, performance reviews, comp packages but have not proven their business models.
