irascible··on Bank account verification and transfers in just a few lines of code
Just enter your bank account and credentials... Dwolla Dwolla Bill Ya'll!!!!
irascible··on Ask HN: Assume the universe is a simulation. Why is c the speed of light?
It's the refresh rate of "their" displays.
irascible··on When is a ‘travel hack’ unethical?
So... Travel agencies have been ripping me off for my entire life due to the fact that I'm American... effectively making me pay double what some other world citizens pay.. and I'm supposed to feel GUILTY about it?

This should be the biggest class action suit ever.

irascible··on Technical Interviews: More Than a Brain Teaser?
Latex diagrams are broken.
irascible··on What is a coder's worst nightmare? (2014)
This is pretty unbelievable.
irascible··on Iran Demonstrates New Humanoid Robot Surena III
Damn. Good work Iran!
irascible··on Cab medallion owners sue NYC, blame Uber for ruining business
This suit needs to happen in every town that allows Uber, and the Medallion holders should win the suit.

It's fucking criminal how cities have sold out the cab drivers, some of who drove for decades and invested 100k to get a medallion, which were suddenly rendered worthless when the city governments let Uber bribe them into allowing unregulated/unmonitored taxis onto city streets.

irascible··on The Programmer's Oath
pretty words... which are often orthogonal to real world work scenarios.
irascible··on We made a HUGE mistake
I thought naming it "floown" was the mistake. Apparently the mistake was actually not firing everyone involved and starting over.

"our platform that helps organizations always know who's available to work."

What does that even mean? Is it a calendar? Ugh this .com stuff drives me up the wall...

irascible··on Physics Forests
I think they are using navies stokes to generate the dataset to learn from.. and the regression forest learns how to reproduce what navier stokes did with a bunch of smaller timesteps, but learns to do it in a single timestep.. which sounds amazing so I'm probably wrong
irascible··on Physics Forests
I want to see a webgl shader implementation of this!
irascible··on 0.30000000000000004
They're close enough for government work.
irascible··on DMTK: Distributed Machine Learning Toolkit from Microsoft
Someone make me a painting of a shriveled genetic algorithm dying in a random forest..
irascible··on 8-bit number to binary string
You can but you have to use jquery.
irascible··on Google to Fold Chrome Operating System into Android
I have a 150$ chrome book and it fucking rocks. Does everything I need to do on the web, and I can do javascript/webgl dev on the road.. battery lasts FORever... really amazing machines.

I made a computer illiterate friend get one because I was sick of doing tech support for his windows Lappie and he loves it, and has had zero probs with it.. the only time he's called me with a problem with it was when he was trying to some fucking exe to win a free ipod. CHROME os rocks.

irascible··on A Robot Finds Its Way Using Artificial “GPS” Brain Cells
I'm curious as to how this is different from existing path finding strategies such as (ironically) A-Star.

Naming your company after a pathfinding algorithm that has been around since the 60s, and then claiming that you are doing pathfinding in a completely different and novel way, smacks of a funding grab to me.

Show me the code.

irascible··on Sharing 3D models via the browser
300 bucks a month is kinda crazy for what is really just hosting a file. You could do the same with a dropbox account.
irascible··on Improving Floating Point Accuracy: A Look at Sums
Would doubling the size of the floats used in the computation achieve a similar result for the example presented?
irascible··on Show HN: Mechanical clock simulation in WebGL
Beautiful.
irascible··on This is why the mobile web is dying
Funny that you post this to hacker news, which arguably is the ONE site that could actually use a mobile app, because the web version is a pile of shit.
irascible··on Twitter Expected to Begin Layoffs and Stop Headquarters Expansion
Oh.. Twitter who lobbied the crooked mayor of SF, Ed Lee, to kick the Chess Players out of Market and Powell?

HOW THE WORM TURNS.

irascible··on 71% of Americans Oppose Civil Asset Forfeiture
Seized assets should be sold and put into social security.. not into new toys for pigs.
irascible··on MathBox 2: PowerPoint Must Die
Vs writing windows only binaries that will only bee seen by people browsing pouet.net and some Finnish lan-partiers?
irascible··on The Pixel Factory
The author of this is both a programmer and an artist. Totally inspiring work.
irascible··on HTML5 Deck of Cards
gulp I guess I should stop using parseInt :/
irascible··on Show HN: The prime knots in 3D
Very nice work.
irascible··on Reversing NvAPI to Programmatically Overclock Nvidia GPUs
Well done sir.
irascible··on Is now the time to learn Rails?
Jive means to deceive. I think you want "Jibe" instead..
irascible··on Ask HN: I am 30+ and bored with life and the software industry, what do I do?
Sounds like burnout. I take a month or 2 off for every year I work.. sometimes at the start of that break, I feel like you do, but a bit of sun on my face and some outdoors, and suddenly the desire to sit inside and code for hours, starts to return. :D
irascible··on The Battle for Wesnoth needs help
Java may have been a stretch.. but think about how many web apps have been written.. and consider that a large %age of user time is spent in the browser who's language IS javascript.. Ive removed java from my systems since oracle ganked it. Java is used in lots of business/banking software, true.. but even the tiobe charts u linked show it declining in popularity.. contrasting w js being language of the year 2014. As for the other DYNAMIC languages.. it's no contest.
