iosjunkie··on Chromium based browsers leak user local IP via WebRTC foundation attribute
OTOH, using Mobile Safari, this site leaked my device’s IP as well as a number of connected devices on my internal network.

Anyone know an easy fix for this?

iosjunkie··on After cutting radar, Tesla now dropping ultrasonic sensors from its EVs
Someone close to me was in an accident that could have been avoided with sensors other than a camera. The camera only collision mitigation system was blinded by direct sunlight complicated by glare off of fresh snow. Zero indication the system was compromised until it failed to provide any warning or active braking.

Vowed to never own a car with only camera based collision mitigation again.

iosjunkie··on Cloud desktops aren't as good as you'd think
You can try it for yourself with Nvidia’s GeForce Now free tier. Just connect with Ethernet if possible.

My experience is that it’s definitely playable and beats a low power laptop with an underpowered video card. Latency in the 40ms range, and barely perceptible.

iosjunkie··on How criminals are using jammers, deauthers to disrupt WiFi security cameras
Look for a deauth detector. On Amazon you can find an ESP8266 preflashed with deauth detection firmware and it includes a hardware buzzer. The firmware is probably something like this: https://github.com/SpacehuhnTech/DeauthDetector
iosjunkie··on FCC: TikTok is unacceptable security risk and should be removed from app stores
I would assume the fear is the PRC is gaining troves of data on individuals interests including politically divisive issues. This insight could lead to undue influence on the American population during elections or times of war.
iosjunkie··on GitHub Copilot is generally available
Wild guess: The pricing is such that when big enterprise contracts are signed, they can throw in Copilot, claiming extra value for the whole package.

The balance of your bank account is similarly “information”. But since everyone places value on that information, it’s valuable.

And these days, they way society is using traditional currency is become less tangible all the time. It’s is 100% possible to live life with never touching physical currency. Get paid via direct deposit, credit cards for your daily expenses, ACH your housing bill and credit card expenses. All just information flowing around.

Crypto is certainly overhyped and overvalued days, but it’s seems that at the core, crypto and modern banking are accomplishing the same thing: managing numbers(information) that people value.

iosjunkie··on AWS S3? Cloudflare R2? We think we know what's coming next
You’re missing a 365 in there.
iosjunkie··on An old hacker's tips on staying employed
Maybe measure - and hear me out on this one - all team members equally, factoring in their total comp. How much more productive is the team for having the individual on the team, regardless of their demographics.
iosjunkie··on “My scooter was stolen. Unknown to the thief, I hid two AirTags inside it.”
> And now that the ESP wakes up everyday, it could also look for public Wifis and send and receive emails. From the Wifi-providers name you can get a rough idea of the location.

Even better, use the Google Maps GeoLocaion API. You can send a list of nearby WiFi APs, with MAC addresses, signal strengths, and channels, and the API will return lat/long.

iosjunkie··on Tim Cook’s Fortnite trial testimony was unexpectedly revealing
The argument goes that then the consumer pays with their privacy. Ie Google foots the R&D bill to get the end user data and to keep users in the Google ecosystem.
iosjunkie··on Ask HN: Cheapest/easiest way to host a static site?
My weekend project is to move a small personal site to Cloudflare Pages[0]. Can't vouch for it yet, but it might be worth a look.
