interbased··on I hoarded gigabytes of RAW photos, until I saw sense and hit delete
Exactly what I do regarding the structured approach. A 4TB hard drive is $100 on Amazon and fits a lot.
interbased··on I'm a dad. I replaced myself with an LLM (2023)
My first thought reading the headline.
interbased··on Ask HN: Where to Find Tech/ML Meetups in the Bay Area?
I find Meetup.com to be helpful for this.
interbased··on Ask HN: What do you do on the weekend?
I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible, work on any personal projects, and hang out with friends.
interbased··on Ask HN: DAE just close the window on sites that use Google's Captcha?
I usually immediately close the window as it removes any desire to see the content. The only exception is if it's for a website that I want to sign up for.
interbased··on Anyone else lurk and feel like they understand nothing?
I don’t understand many posts but when I do see something that piques my interest, I’ll check it out and maybe look some stuff up to learn more. You’re definitely not alone.
interbased··on Ask HN: What macOS apps/programs do you use daily and recommend?
iTerm2, Brave Browser for privacy and no ads, Sublime Text.
interbased··on Ask HN: What keyboard and keyboard layout are you using?
I’m one of the few folks who use and enjoy a MacBook butterfly keyboard. The clickiness and thinness is very satisfying.
interbased··on Ask HN: What is a good way to screenshot a perfect square?
You can make the screenshot square bigger than you need it to be, then click on the screenshot when it appears in the bottom right. Click the edit button at the top, then click the crop icon. Hold shift and drag the corner.
interbased··on Turn your conversations into work with Slack lists
Is this to compete with something like Jira or Trello? I can’t imagine a scenario where you would use both tools, unless the list is for personal tasks. For that, I just use reminders.
interbased··on Ask HN: Personal Finance Advice for a 21 yo
Contribute as much to your retirement plan as possible.
interbased··on Ask HN: Why are we still using CVs like old times?
I think websites are much more elegant for a modern CV. It’s being looked at on a computer anyway, so might as well take advantage of the benefits of a website.
interbased··on Ask HN: Book Recommendations?
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a life changer. It’s more spiritual than scientific but I highly recommend it.
interbased··on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: "I discourage 1-on-1s"
I talk to my manager everyday anyway, so a dedicated meeting to “catch up” isn’t really necessary. If there was a goal and we need to set up a check in meeting for that specific goal, that would make sense.
interbased··on Ask HN: What's your go-to tech stack (or services/products) for side projects?
I’ve used Flask with Python to deploy a front end for my code. It was pretty straightforward and you can find boilerplate to start.
interbased··on How do you browse Hacker News from your phone these days?
I use Brave Browser on iOS and enable Night Mode.
interbased··on Ask HN: What's the best book(s) to grasp statistics?
I don’t know about books, but this playlist was a good primer:

interbased··on Ask HN: Do you use LinkedIn and are active on it?
I use it purely as a “networking for jobs” tool. If I’m not actively looking for jobs, I might scroll through my feed a few times per week, but it’s mostly a time killer in that regard.
interbased··on Ask HN: Looking for a simple note taking tool
I use the Notes app on Mac OS but I’ve heard good things about Joplin.
interbased··on Instead of “auth”, we should say “permissions” and “login”
I believe “login” is the process of actually logging in, or the set of credentials used to log in. “Logon” refers to the act of connecting to something. They’re often used interchangeably, though.
interbased··on Ask HN: How to learn Python in 2024?
Agreed. This is the playlist I recommend for beginners:

interbased··on Ask HN: What tools do you use for researching new fields?
Usually just Google and YouTube. I’ll use free resources and if I want to sharpen a particular skill further than free resources are available for, I’ll find a decent premium course.
interbased··on Ask HN: Would you pay for premium support from big tech?
I don’t require any additional level of support now, so no.
interbased··on Ask HN: What's your favorite everyday app or product?
I recently started using RSS feeds and the reader in Brave Browser is really neat.
interbased··on Ask HN: What are some clever ways for a non-technical person to work with devs?
In a non-technical role, the definition of something being “done correctly” ends when the output/result matches the requirements. Whether that be a user experience, reporting, or whatever the requirements are. As long as those are clearly defined, and you can test the application against those definitions, the trust lies in the development team that it was programmed properly.

Any kind of testing should be defined at a high level. What is being tested and what is the expected result? What should trigger an alert?

interbased··on Ask HN: Do regular users care about AI-enabled features?
It might become more widely used when it’s integrated into commonly used software. For example, if Siri has an option for it, or it becomes the default option for Google. I don’t think regular users seek it out, though.
interbased··on Personal life is a playground for solving optimization problems
I would say the goal is up to you. If you have a set list of things you want to accomplish in a week, you’d optimize to ensure those tasks are done, and any leftover time can be spent on leisure. That’s just one model.
interbased··on Ask HN: What's an old software that you would like to have again?
I really miss AIM and MSN Messenger. Also Xfire for integration with games.
interbased··on Ask HN: Could you motivate high school math by using it to explain how AI works?
Exactly - knowledge without practical application isn’t very inspiring. When I started learning data science, it gave a whole new life to linear algebra and made it almost magical.
interbased··on Software engineering is not going anywhere anytime soon
The way I see it, AI software are tools that software engineers can use to make their workflow more efficient.
