interactivecode··on Open UI
Projects like these are saying just because we figured out how chairs work, everyone should use the same chair.

It just completely misses the point, people like it when they build something themselves it looks how they like it. Want to spend years working on something that looks exactly like everything else?

interactivecode··on Learning Morse code in the 21st century
My uncle used to work as a radio guy. I remember visiting The National Maritime Museum with him and he just walked up to a morse machine and started writing stories.

Last weekend when we talked he mentioned being sad that a lot of this knowledge is getting lost. Must be a strange feeling walking through a museum and it being the tools of your trade.

As a ux designer it can also be incredibly hard to find a job that's doing actual ux research. When I worked as a UX designer every boss just wanted me to confirm a design is "user friendly" instead of taking the time to research user flows and designing behaviour.
interactivecode··on $15 minimum wage didn’t hurt NYC restaurants

interactivecode··on An Interview with Jose Valim, Creator of Elixir
You seem to have a bunch of experience with Phoenix, could you suggest some tutorials that will be helpful for people who start from scratch learning elixr and this type of development.

interactivecode··on Ask HN: How to get people to tell you their problems?
I have a background in UX before diving into programming. And the simple answer is just to talk to people and then ask in a friendly way. How you start the conversation doesn’t matter much at the start. As long as it isn’t off putting people are quite friendly.

I found it always help to explain your goal/project your working on. Starting the conversation with: “Hi I’m working on a fun project and wanted to get out and talk to some people about it. Do you have some time to help me?”

After doing this with 30 people in your social circle, slowly start reading up and improving your approach and start asking people further away from you

interactivecode··on Ask HN: Traveled 10k km for new job and was just shouted at. What do I do?
Hey! hope I can help, in a lot of european contries employees are quite protected. Which means that if your job is harming you, in either physical or mental ways you are protected by law.

With these things it's hard though, try to keep a record of what happens and try to not participate in it.

Depending on how widespread it is. Talking to HR might work, wherein it helps if you can take a couple colleagues with you who have had the same happend to them. (so it's not just you)

In Holland for example there are state law offcies who give advice and help out with these kinds of things. They know what your situation is and how it can be handled best. Lawyers offices might also have free first meeting to help you and provide you with some context.

You seem to have a hard time with this. I've been is a very similar position. What I would advice is you talk to you GP and get appointments with psychologists. This will also protect you later if things get worse and you don't wanna show up at work anymore. Being sick at some, with a psychologist treatment will also make sure they can't fire you. and then it's a bit of a waiting game perhaps.

Anyways, feel free to message me and I can help out. I went through a similar situation and it really messed me up. I would like to make sure it doesn't get that bad for other people.
