indexerror··on Show HN: Little Finger, a library to add a kill switch to your mobile apps
Interesting and much needed (as far as my experience in freelancing goes).

1. Are you aware of the legality issues that might arise because of this?

2. Is there a working demo for that I can install and check it out?

indexerror··on HTTPS on Stack Overflow: The End of a Long Road
Certainly doable but this should not be done.
indexerror··on Javascript is a buffet, not the enemy [video]
> Python's virtualenv/pip system, for all its warts, is orders of magnitude better than any JS package management system I've seen

In terms of what? Can you please do a npm vs pip and a nvm vs virtualenv?

Thanks

indexerror··on Opinionated Comparison of React, Angular2, and Aurelia
> The beauty of React is that it forces you to think in a slightly different way. Vue seemed more accessible for a spaghetti code writer

This has been my experience too with React and Vuejs. React requires thorough planning beforehand to write good code. You need to plan the parent-children structure before you jump in. It's easy to write shitty code in react too if you jump in headfirst; resulting in the kind of "enterprise boilerplate" others are talking about in this thread. Personally, I am happy with React at the moment (and React Fiber let's you return an array of components, so no more wrapping your components around a span - yay!).

indexerror··on Iaito – A Qt and C++ GUI for radare2 reverse engineering framework
I feel that `/s` usually should be included at the beginning of the statement. Could save some momentary triggers.
indexerror··on Set up a cheap cloud hosted adblocker in an hour for $2.50 a month
It seems like it is $300 for the next 12 months. There is no mention of always free.
indexerror··on Firefox 52 released
With this goes the support for DivX player and VLC plugin for Firefox. I'd surely miss the ability to play any format in my browser until PPAPI replacements come up.
indexerror··on Linus Torvalds: Successful projects are 99% perspiration and 1% innovation
Smart Contracts kind of covers it.
indexerror··on How to protect yourself against the WebEx vulnerability
"There was a secret URL in WebEx that allowed any website to run arbitrary code. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

What are the chances of this being done arbitrarily, and not just something that slipped out of code review...

indexerror··on 2017 is not just another prime number
There has been a great amount of research to find ways to check if a number of prime or not in polynomial time[1]. Many of such _facts_ are a observations from this conquest. Number theory reveals fascinating facts about spacing in prime numbers determining properties within a range. Sometimes such results emerge from there.

Agreed. That is Anil Dash for you. Read his other blog posts as well.
indexerror··on WebRTC: the future of web games
Service workers aren't a bonus anymore. Safari alone is holding back webapps considerably.
indexerror··on Uber Freight
Except that the end to end points are not connected directly by a highway. They do have to move in the cities as well, so they need to optimise for that anyway.

Your comment is valid and I shouldn't be laughing so hard right now.
indexerror··on Six more radio signals from deep space deepen mystery
There is something special here, which is the unique combination of biospheres and natural processes that enable life as we know it. Maybe aliens also have the same life form as us, and they are looking for similar habitats? Our search for such habitats so far has not been very successful, which shows that we are a indeed one of a kind in the known universe.

The aliens who can visit us, however, are likely to possess technologies to terraform unsuitable planets. But maybe their technological development was not well rounded and space exploration was pursued way more than other form of technologies. Remember that we went to moon before we had smartphones. Just a simple analogy, but who knows?

indexerror··on List of awesome developers
Interesting... So you need 768+ followers to break into this list.
indexerror··on Do Teachers Need to Include the History of Mathematics in Their Teaching? (2003)
Absolutely, yes.

1. It's much more interesting to study something when you have a historical perspective that you can relate to later on in the course.

2. It makes you comfortable about the idea that such developments in mathematics are made by fellow humans only and they can also do such things if they put in the efforts. This might sound like a small addition but it's detrimental in developing such sense in young kids.

indexerror··on InfernoJS Boilerplate – early stages
Afaik Inferno can replace React directly. Why would someone not use an existing, mature boilerplate instead?
indexerror··on Die photos and analysis of the revolutionary 8008 microprocessor, 45 years old
Very cool. I wish university professors use this article as a precursor to the computer architecture course material. Its much more interesting to study something when you have a historical perspective that you can relate to later on in the course.
indexerror··on I Know What You Download on BitTorrent
I trust you.
indexerror··on PostgreSQL anti-patterns: read-modify-write cycles (2014)
In addition to this, postgres also has Advisory Locks, if you want to handle the locking mechanism client side and don't want to fail update by a client that still wants to do the update anyway for some reason.

You may want to try: http://photonkit.com/
indexerror··on Beware of Developers Who Do Negative Work
Can you explain why you feel that "do everything in the database" is archaic? A lot of logic (especially authentication logic) can be put in the database only. Not to mention that I won't trust anything that only has application level security, and nothing at database level to check/limit it.

indexerror··on Bill Gates et. al. launch massive clean-energy fund to fight climate change
They have Mukesh Ambani on board. He has a special interest in not letting renewable resources flourish as he is the chairman of Reliance Petroleum. A little good PR doesn't hurt though, so why not.

On a side note, Webchimera [1] works great from Electron/nw.js applications. I use it for some media applications.

indexerror··on Show HN: Portainer – A lightweight management UI for Docker
Very Cool!

1. Is there some auth mechanism like Shipyard where I can make new users and set their access scopes?

2. Can you please mention the source code on your page? It is nowhere to be seen (https://github.com/portainer/portainer).
