imagineerschool··on At the Mountains of Madness
These synthetic artifacts will come to be regarded as psychological asbestos.

Please consider labelling it, and giving provenance data. And protecting public sanity by putting it behind a clickwall.

imagineerschool··on The Public Interest Internet
We'd start with a group of people centered around agreement on "credible, pragmatic definition of the common good"

I'm in.

imagineerschool··on Why Bad CEOs Fear Remote Work (2021)
The legitimately world changing life improving work I do somehow always happens to be unpaid. Funny how that works :)
imagineerschool··on Why Bad CEOs Fear Remote Work (2021)
"None of this work really matters in the end"

I look forward to this not being true

imagineerschool··on Meta Horizon OS
'take' as in 'hot take' intended meaning : 'I disagree with your assessment and conclusions'
imagineerschool··on What you've got is in fact a people problem
Democracy in the workplace descends into a popularity contest, unless there are reliable systems in place to keep things reasonable.

Don't ask me how I know until I'v finished processing it in therapy in a couple years.

imagineerschool··on Canadian government banning Flipper Zero to combat auto theft
This would be funny if it weren't real and truly shameful. Dark days in Canada.
imagineerschool··on Active Measures
From the article:

Lt. General Ion Mihai Pacepa stated that operation "SIG" ("Zionist Governments"), devised in 1972, intended to turn the whole Islamic world against Israel and the United States. KGB Chairman Yuri Andropov allegedly explained to Pacepa that

a billion adversaries could inflict far greater damage on America than could a few millions. We needed to instill a Nazi-style hatred for the Jews throughout the Islamic world, and to turn this weapon of the emotions into a terrorist bloodbath against Israel and its main supporter, the United States[12]
imagineerschool··on Drew DeVault bullies creator of Hyprland, publishes private chat logs
There are many religious texts that instruct followers in the administration of justice to include beheading.

Are you calling their religion wrong? That may be punishable by beheading.

imagineerschool··on Ask HN: What would it take for HN to become ActivityPub compatible?
I started following an HN repost bot on Mastodon this morning.

What's missing is comments from AP being ingested/posted to HN, the upvote/downvote federation story, and the moderation story.

Has @dang commented on this question in the past? Has anyone shown a potential HN source patch?

Where is the HN source code right now? Free and Open?

imagineerschool··on Refusing to teach kids math will not improve equity
Granting student children rights would be a disaster for career administrators and bureaucrats, undermining the entire institution and all of its conceits.

If you want to see how well it works, look at the Sudbury Valley School model. (It works extremely well.)

imagineerschool··on Born in Babylon: The spread of Rastafari
> If I'd point out that every christian in States is fundamental lunatic there would be people wanting to lynch me.

Thus proving your point to be correct?

imagineerschool··on My First Impressions of Nix
"Yes, it is."

AFAIK It's each of those things, each unfortunately named the same.

imagineerschool··on Swing VPN app is a DDoS botnet
Who hurt you? I can't believe that "Nuance is unacceptable" is the position you really want to go with.
imagineerschool··on Ask HN: Is HN (or the world) getting politically extreme?
The professionals working for state-sponsored 'troll farms' are working right now (here!) to make things less reasonable. You're seeing the results of their professional work. Read more about the scale and targets of their operations from your nation's intelligence service reports. Here's a start, from Canada's CSIS "WHO SAID WHAT? The Security Challenges of Modern Disinformation" https://publications.gc.ca/collections/collection_2018/scrs-...

As for what we can do Citizens having the capability to freely and privately debate and govern amongst themselves without interference seems like a good start. Free and Open privacy and encryption technology development and advocacy seems important and immediately actionable on an individual and community level.

imagineerschool··on All Books and Science Publications Are Available in IPFS
Checking back on this again, the linked source gateway is still down from where I'm sitting.

Using a more generic/available gateway for this link might make more sense.

imagineerschool··on All Books and Science Publications Are Available in IPFS
Apparently not, though? Down, not available.
imagineerschool··on The end of Type 1 fonts
Not with that attitude
imagineerschool··on StarFighter 16 inch: 4K Coreboot/Ryzen Linux laptop
Looking forward to QubesOS compatibility report :)
imagineerschool··on Taler Systems SA is looking for investors for development of GNU Taler
I want to work on this! I'm looking forward to helping raise these millions and making the wheels turn. 5 million is really not that big of an ask here.
imagineerschool··on The Fediverse is inefficient but that's a good trade-off
I have been using it for a while, and it's pretty good. Only people who want to use it are on it. The feeling of community is real.
imagineerschool··on Show HN: I 3D scanned the interior of the Great Pyramid at Giza
The 'mystery' chamber in the base of the Great Pyramid is a functioning pulse pump - this researcher measured it and built a scale replica: https://sentinelkennels.com/Research_Article_V41.html

The mechanisms of the Great Pyramid can only be conjectured about in the present day because of the extensive damage to the structure, but it's pretty clear it served /some/ purpose.

imagineerschool··on Show HN: Restfox – Open source lightweight alternative to Postman
Cool!
imagineerschool··on Watching 'Spirited Away' again, and again
Surprised no one has mentioned the representational content of No Face - it represents YOU, THE VIEWER.

The curiosity, the situational greed and lust, the remorse and the will to be useful and healing...

I love this film, and since learning about /why/ the film was made, I have a deep respect for the execution of something that is at once beautiful and inspiring and kid friendly, while also dealing with an extremely adult topic. Layers.

I'd be interested in hearing from Japanese lawmakers about the effect this had on the legislation drafting and enforcement process.

imagineerschool··on Ask HN: Does Hacker News still do in person meet ups?
Toronto - who is in?
imagineerschool··on What Is Qubes OS?
QubesOS is my favourite technology existing today.

Daily driver on desktop and laptop.

Feels like home.

^ My highest praise.

imagineerschool··on The Infuriating Reality of Traveling with Bitcoin in the World's Crypto Capital
The other poster doesn't appreciate you, but I think the content on your website is delightful.
imagineerschool··on NitroPhone 2/Pro with 4.5 years of software updates
As the proud owner of a Pinephone, it's not ready to be a daily driver.

I wish it were, but it ain't there yet. They have my money and my support and my spiritual energy, but I need a dependable phone today too.

imagineerschool··on NitroPhone 2/Pro with 4.5 years of software updates
I'm excited to see this, but I have the same questions as other comments:

Is there anything extra here that I couldn't do myself?

(I'm still likely a customer since getting it done for me is a valuable service)
