illumanaughty··on OpenDLSS: A Vulkan Reimplementation of Nvidia's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Network
Wow you sound like a nice person
illumanaughty··on Explore the Hidden World of Sand
I mean if your intent is to view the images carefully and study the details why not click through to the details page and see larger, more detailed photos?
illumanaughty··on Explore the Hidden World of Sand
If you click into one of the examples they have a photo of a hand holding a sample plus photos of the beach.
illumanaughty··on The Age Verification Trap: Verifying age undermines everyone's data protection
There's a high chance the government is attempting to influence public opinion by using botted comments, which is easier than ever to pull off.
illumanaughty··on Show HN: AI OmniGen – AI Image Generator with Consistent Visuals
We've been manipulating photos as long as we've been taking them.
illumanaughty··on Figma AI
The problem is when other people are getting 'AI suggestions' based on your work. What if you don't own the copyright for the work you're producing (it's for a client)? What if you don't what AI being trained on your data?
illumanaughty··on Nintendo Switch Emulator: Progress Report December 2023
No.
illumanaughty··on Cybertruck Launch
Maybe see if it's any good first lol
illumanaughty··on Half-Life 25th Anniversary Update
Steam is a perfectly fine experience and captchas are the universal standard these days. They lost someone who's 'not really a game person' and wasn't willing to fill in a captcha for a free game, I don't think they're too worried about lost revenue. I highly doubt tracking down and downloading a legit version of the updated Half-Life from a torrent site is an easier option, but you do you.
illumanaughty··on An interactive guide to Flexbox
Grid and Flex serve different purposes for layout. Also Grid has many of the same keywords as flex, but is more complex. I wouldn't call it more intuitive.
illumanaughty··on Ikea Vindriktning Air Quality Sensor Review and Accuracy
What makes it likely when nothing about sex/gender is mentioned? Seems like you're the one that has a gender bias and you're projecting lol
illumanaughty··on Vercel raises $150M Series D
To be fair they jump right to the nuance of why you'd choose them, assuming you know who they are. Coca-Cola's website doesn't tell you what coke is, it talks about experiences/moments..etc. I share your frustration to some extent but I understand their reasoning.
illumanaughty··on React Aria: A headless UI component library
It gives you complete control over your markup and styling. Headless UI is designed to handle everything except what the components look like.
illumanaughty··on New credit card rules in India: recurring card payments to be affected
Sounds like a lot of hassle to me. I'd rather click a button.
illumanaughty··on Clubhouse Is a Cargo Cult
This is true for literally any social media, Clubhouse is just an easy target given the UI doesn't have to be used for the primary content. I mean Facebook is awful for many reasons and yet you can still get utility out of it. I'm sure Clubhouse is no different. Easy to sit on the sidelines and focus on one aspect of it, though.
illumanaughty··on Artists, shrug off that imposter syndrome – the tech world needs you
Seems like a rather broad statement. As an artist in UI design I disagree and think it's a fantastic meeting point of artistry and engineering.
illumanaughty··on Netflix's “Love Is Blind” Wants Unpaid Photographer for Five Weddings
Because exploiting people is wrong.
illumanaughty··on My Current HTML Boilerplate
Simple =/= Obvious.
illumanaughty··on Amazon 2020 Letter to Shareholders
Exactly. This is such an awful take that it makes me think maybe Bezos has time to spend on HN.
illumanaughty··on Jacquard by Google
Cool! Can't wait until this gets shuttered mid-2022.
illumanaughty··on EA to buy Dirt Rally-maker Codemasters for £1B
Don't be ridiculous they'll at least change the driver names, totally worth $60.
illumanaughty··on Jailbreaking Used Teslas
Owners of photoshop don't get free updates even though they own their computer. Software costs money to develop so saying all updates should be free simply because they already own the hardware doesn't makes any sense.
illumanaughty··on Sketch: Proud to Build a Truly Native Mac App
Sketch keeps design in a silo. Figma is the tool of the future. Design is about problem solving, and designers need to involve non-designers to solve problems.
illumanaughty··on Next.js Commerce – Starter kit for high-performance ecommerce sites
There's literally a Next.js conf currently running with thousands of viewers
illumanaughty··on Which colour scheme is better?
Trying to claim light color schemes are scientifically better based solely on the The Pulfrich effect is absurd. The best color scheme for programming is the one you like and can comfortably look at for extended periods of time. Your eyes are different than mine so trying to claim this is a scientific means of determining the best color scheme is about as useful as you telling me what my favourite color is based on 'science'.
illumanaughty··on Facebook says Apple’s iOS 14 changes could hurt its ad targeting
Good.
illumanaughty··on Ways to make a web component
This distills the differences into the simplest possible example, which given the number of examples is incredibly useful.

Also if you're in a React project, yes, you would use it for a counter. Obviously you wouldn't use React for just a counter, but it's a great way to show the basics of working with each option.

illumanaughty··on Apple Music on Android requires its own payment details to avoid Google 30% cut
Ah yes, the Apple approach. I like it.
illumanaughty··on Native HTML elements with CSS superpowers
The homepage tells you nothing about what this is. Even if I go to the GitHub I get "Native Elements (NE) is not a CSS framework"...great so what is it?
illumanaughty··on To defund the police, activists rewrote city budgets
The police do not need billions of dollars. Defunding the police is a great idea. There are many more effective ways to spend this money. Police are used as a (poor) bandage for issues that stem from lack of funding in other areas, like healthcare, social work and housing.
