ijafri··on Tell HN: Never search for domains on Godaddy.com
Godaddy has been doing it for at least decade now, i just searched a domain i think 10 years ago that I in fact needed, however didn't want to use Godaddy for registration, anyway the only mistake I made was, i searched for its availability on their site, and it was available, then i went to namecheap to register it. (im from Pakistan no way affiliated with Namecheap anyhow) .. and to my surprise it got registered within i think 10 min, I was quite shocked, and then I tried to look for its whois and found Godadday had registered it, and I can swear, this was the last time i visited their website.

this godadday practice story keeps showing up every now and then everywhere reddit or HN etc.

Some people say it's great, they 'secure' your domain than hijacking.. blah blah. nonetheless it's a creepy behavior.. in the past such discussion i guess it only cost them few cents to register it for a month period etc.. not sure exactly, some peeps had suggested to make a bot to search tons of them.. but I think it doesn't cost them much... somehow....

ijafri··on I sold my side-project for $30k
basically he still made great money, i don't think anyone would pay more than $10k .. if he had listed it on flippa it's simple 3 x yearly revneue for such sites = $ 5000 maxium. he got the right buyer and $10k isn't bad deal for either party.
ijafri··on Sending 1.2M Tweets
while I applaud the author, but it didn't entirely settle well with me... I guess it still amounts to misuse of one's resources. in this case twitter.
ijafri··on Apple iPhone SE Available on Apple Store Again
is it back, or they are clearing refurbished stock? it was on clearance page.
ijafri··on Lidar Is a Crutch
I didn't get the Uber reference, have not they given up on driverless cars, at least for the near future? after the sensor / lidar failure resulting in a fatal crash.
ijafri··on Facebook to Invest $300m in Supporting Local News
With Google Reader Gone, Facebook and Twitter essentially have taken the place of feed readers. It makes a lot of sense for Facebook, it's not merely a social network anymore. It's acting like a social 'OS' for the users now.
ijafri··on What is the PDF format good for? Nothing (2006)
I happen to work in an industry (intl shipping) where we scan billions of PDF daily, and I have no clue, how would we share docs with all the parties involved ... 'sanely' ... if it were not for PDF, TIFF isn't good either .. PDF docs are like 3kb-10kb ... other than physical scan of papers ... however 'generated PDF docs' are 5kb at best.
ijafri··on AsteroidOS – An open-source operating system for smartwatches
hmm why one would want 'always-on' i guess raising the wrist to look at the time ... is both ideal and battery saving too? please enlighten me.
ijafri··on Microsoft Turned Consumers Against the Skype Brand
It was a consumer product until Mircosoft acquired it, now it's neither.
ijafri··on Write Emails Faster with Smart Compose in Gmail
Only if your recipient is a bot too. Having said that could work very well for ‘business emails, where essentially we’re writing in the same tone than personal email’

PS: I’m loving the idea and let’s hope it can get tailored to ones individual needs

ijafri··on Launch HN: SharpestMinds (YC W18) – Online Community for AI Devs
It’s like asking Bill Gates to join a community ‘filthyRich’ it correctly correlates with his wealth. But we also know, he would instantly hit the spam button on such a pitch.
ijafri··on Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook hearing was a sham
i guess it's about time, all state level elected bodies, should dedicate 5-10% seats ... at least ... on an extremely specialised profession basis, such as software, medical etc ... look most of these guys are lawyers by profession that's massively over represented in all houses everywhere .... why just we can't ....
ijafri··on Time to talk about why so many postgrads have poor mental health
We are wise animals but still animals.. I am guessing and it’s a guess since I don’t have any facts to substantiate this claim that we perhaps were not meant to be so techy or take so much mental stress. Starting from stressful college education to financial career, I am still at loss why even humanity moved to this direction... quality of life is a delusion ... human adjust to their given environment . In recent times.. all the progress is pacing out leading to even more stress .. do we really need so much progress so fast ??
ijafri··on Ask HN: What do Facebook employees think about their company?

ijafri··on Congrats Dropbox
Overwhelmingly excited for Dropbox IPO, it’s truly both inspiring and has huge utility.. phuck GoogleDrive and lolwut iCloud Drive. Dropbox also proved regardless of how small you may be, if you do it right in a way humans will like it., you can always stay ahead of the competition.. I meant Google Drive was a pretty rad competition but they didn’t even get the sync icon right .. too ugly for my taste.
ijafri··on LGPL violation/Missing references to Ethereumj project
mods changed the title, having realised my perplexity.
ijafri··on LGPL violation/Missing references to Ethereumj project
Nope! Trademarks are granted for a specific use cases or industry, movie titles can't be copyrighted .. they are only protected by MPAA(Motion pictures association).. and MPAA only can regulate Movie names, video games or toy lines are however... See https://www.applebank.com and get amused by their Apple logo.. they did the fruit depiction right
ijafri··on LGPL violation/Missing references to Ethereumj project
Phew! As the owner of https://tron.pk I literally spilled my morning coffee over the keyboard, just reading the title.
ijafri··on Introducing the new Snapchat
I wonder if it has to do with pic size and bandwidth.. since they never seemed to focus on Android. Due to a lot of low end devices .. and meaning no value for advertisers ... ?? Also they ain't Instagram .. or Flickr.. it was disappearing pics ... Meant to last few seconds,.. right ?? Or I got this wrong?
ijafri··on Hello, world: this is WikiTribune
I don't get it's point at least as yet. Wikipedia works because there wasn't a free sober extensive alternative available.. there are billions of way to get news and authentic ones too. I don't see the point as yet. The blogging tried to revolutionize the citizen journalism.. but it's tiresome with little to none rewards. Comparing it to Wikipedia is comparing Apples to Oranges ..
ijafri··on Who Will Rein in Facebook? Challengers Are Lining Up
+1 for [0] as the first footnote
ijafri··on Flexport’s plan to build a freight empire with its $110M raise
They will be $10 billion in few years. Afterwards they will be beyond acquision. Given they keep the same pace and hardwork. They could be more valuable than Uber period. It's because they have positioned themselves in this unique situation they are based outta SF they have good VC and good hardcore freight team. It's unique and I don't see why they can't be $100 billion company given the scope of this industry and so far they have been doing everything good that paved the way for $100 billion valuation ultimately... Perhaps in a decade but they are getting there.
ijafri··on Flexport’s plan to build a freight empire with its $110M raise
I guess it's little too much overblown ... As a professional importer as you may sound. Airfreight unlike ocean freight ridiculously varies for instance you can ship the same load for $2/kg and if you choose EK Emirates they may charge $3/kg. I am not saying you are wrong. You would have paid more than with FEDEX also at this point I am not sure what Origin and Destination were involved .. was it an international shipment? China to US?

But I also feel they need to give customers options of pricing choice in their dashboard... It normally tends to be via one Airline only. And it does result in confusion... Traditionally freight forwarder offer at least 2-3 airlines options with varying pricing, routes and transit times ... For a good insight you should have mentioned actual transit times comparison for both services too.

However I do humbly disagree with you giving an impression that are kinda not hardcore guys they are beast ... And I have been in this industry for the past 20 years. Yeah they do need to improve pricing options in their dashboard... And very quickly. They should give customer 2-3 options based on slower faster and service reliably of air and ocean carriers.

ijafri··on Google accused of racketeering in lawsuit
>Google's leadership profoundly betrayed the longtime personal trust and friendship of Apple's leadership in stealing what Steve Jobs believed were Apple's most prized possessions.

You may think it’s a coincidence, but then you realize it isn’t.

ijafri··on Sickness absence associated with shared and open-plan offices (2011)
as an HR manager, we had to adopt open plan, for our own reasons, however before we did so, we have made our hygienic rules 10x stricter, But I guess solely chalking up sickness to open plan is bit too far-fetched, there are still too many public places, commute, public washrooms etc that one can't avoid ... having said, this also depends higher than usual standards for hygienic at work.
ijafri··on Freight startup Flexport soars from ‘unsexy’ to $800M valuation
Watching this video was immersive in a way Ryan has introduced customs brokerage and freight forwarding to the valley and internet to the freight industry. I meant it was PG and Sam asking him like... ELI5 wow
ijafri··on Freight startup Flexport soars from ‘unsexy’ to $800M valuation
They have great teams and exactly know what they are doing, they took the freight industry by storm, through innovation and great user-experience. Their user-experience actually has started to re-define the old fashioned international freight industry.
ijafri··on Sublime Text 3.0
wow!! just ended my evaluation with this release and purchased the license...
ijafri··on Every reference to Kim Jong Un in official HTML is wrapped in a ﹤nobr﹥
Added the alternative and more realistic version of my analysis in the last part.
ijafri··on Every reference to Kim Jong Un in official HTML is wrapped in a ﹤nobr﹥
I guess due to his last name. Un?

If you break the title of this post before his last name it would read

Un in official.

But we also know that isn't the only reason. If you are his age with nukes I guess most would have H1 tag wrapped around it too.
