ijafri··on Flexport is brutally disrupting global trade and international shipping
It's never been done at this scale, because no one until now, took neither global trade and international shipping as seriously as flexport did in the silicone valley, partially because it's a complex business and partially because anyone who knows the complexitites doesn't live in Silcon valley. Some how Ryan Peterson fits the bill. He is insanely intelligent and knows what he is doing.
ijafri··on India demonetisation fails to purge black money
i don't think any real dude having enough money would keep it in a local currency when he can just buy euro bonds or foreign currency $ or Euro etc ... it i guess only had effected small fishes to some extent, but at the end of the day, the question remain did it help at all curb corruption. Corruption like water will pave its way in terms of monetarily. they will find a way out ... it's not big deal ... such efforts despite looking promising, will be futile.

So my conclusion 'corruption' is not a monetary issue, it's a system issue, fix the system.... and in order to have a 'healthy' system just like we see in the 1st World, everyone makes at least what they deserve or can live good enough ... if not luxurious.

after you give them reasonable good salary keep a check, and hire 'educated' people.

This worked here in Pakistan, our traffic police 'was' most corrupt, Govt raised their salaries 3x .... no more bribe ... they inducted Graduate Students and trained!!! at least our Traffic police dudes are now at Lahore City of Pakistan ... corruption free!!

ijafri··on Why Germans pay cash for almost everything
Yes that was the actual point, with CC you don't get the feel or pain of losing money ... When paying through cash you physically feel losing an amount of money. Humans.
ijafri··on Why Germans pay cash for almost everything
I have experimented with it too, and you may as well, leave your credit cards at home, and only use 'Cash' ... you will think twice before paying for $100 consumer item ... whereas using Credit Card, you barely had noticed the price tag .... so bottom line is, Yes, paying through Cash can 'significantly' cut your expenses on 'extravagant spendings'.

Why not let everyone moderate or delete it's temporary, but one should be able to delete too.

ijafri··on Reddit raises $200M at a $1.8B valuation
Also Reddit is alive because of them, they play by the rules, who is gonna invest billions of hours to keep Reddit active without any kind of reward in return ... Rewaeds could be depending on the sub Reddit you run.
ijafri··on Reddit raises $200M at a $1.8B valuation
By voting rings I meant that were promoting real 'amusing' stuff to pile up banner ads CPM revenue. They invested a lot in 'amusing stuff' and as well as keeping Digg alive.
ijafri··on Reddit raises $200M at a $1.8B valuation
Digg wasn't Batman. Point. On topic Digg didn't survive the wrath of voting rings. They stopped using it. That irioncally killed it.
ijafri··on LinkedIn: It’s illegal to scrape our website without permission
Yes it's a consensus user-generarated content or facts are not liable to copy rights, I am not sure about the legality however it should not take long to prove as such.

I meant there is nothing that LinkedIn 'created' out of that users data. But it's little complex or little immoral to steal users data hosted on their infrastructure that costs them a lot.

ijafri··on LinkedIn: It’s illegal to scrape our website without permission
I guess for LinkedIn it could matter most, because their only livelihood is CV and employer companies Data, if you steal a poor man's bread they are gonna be upset. It was dead as a social network long ago if it ever was, now their only asset is the data, so I guess their right to protect their only asset is legit.
ijafri··on Reddit raises $200M at a $1.8B valuation
Either you die Young as a Digg, or live long enough to become Reddit.

spoiler: it's not an iron-man style.

Conclusion: British Clickbait.

ijafri··on Uber CEO Plays with Fire
i don't know how did you reach the conclusion of costs amounting to 'pennies', they are a taxi service without owning or leasing a taxi (generally) and without investing into depreciating assets, does not make the costs 'pennies' even worse, their one time investment might not be higher but monthly operational and running expenses are far more therefore, who hires taxi drivers, and it's almost costing them more than they pay to taxi 'partners' and all other costs involved, hence the massive losses, have you got a car? go to their office, and 'recruit' yourself and do the math.

pssst!! it's not a 'angelic ride sharing' service period. it's hiring taxi drivers and in this case mostly entrepreneurial taxi drivers having multiple cars and running it as a business.

ijafri··on Uber CEO Plays with Fire
I don't know but Uber has proven to be a shinny example of a ponzy scheme within a larger ponzy scheme. They will never be profitable, Burning billions, so is the case with Careem whom I met, and their staff was at loss to tell how this is a viable business to run. They disrupted taxi drivers, making good earnings. They benefited a lot to consumers eliminating overcharging by common taxi drivers. But as an entrepreneur I am still failing to understand how far they can go before they run out of fuel $ eventually.
ijafri··on Ask HN: Is Uber or other higher burn rate startup are ponzy schemes?
They are never going to be profitable period. Then why?
ijafri··on United removes first-class passenger to make room for 'higher-priority' traveler
In Pakistan Citizen didn't let a minster on board a flight, after it got delayed due to him. Citizen abused him and he had to leave the plane. I meant United is demonstrating something even worse than would happen in our 3rd world country, and all I get it now, the 1st World only got bit of money and tech and at the end of the day, they are just as big an assholes as we are.

First they beated a customer and now another one was moved to economy in order to make room for a certain high profile.. !!! So you truly see, this is the so-called first world, racism against minorities and immigrants despite 'they' invaded Red Indians land, and now they are demonstrating same 'social class' discrimination, that's common place in the 3rd World, minus the $+Tech, and there you have even worse of the 3rd World.

ijafri··on Uber CEO linked to escort bar visit that resulted in an HR complaint
may be i didn't get it correctly, why is it exactly a 'scandal' ... going to a escort bar with employees? or then leaving early?? I don't get the scandalous part in there?? out of all this fiasco, I have figured, Uber does have serious HR issues, but i don't appreciate the vendetta campaign that apparently is specifically targeted at defamation of the company, than actually doing anything about it... I am an Asian, even so, a Pakistani, so I clearly don't have a dog in this fight... I am inclined to believe this all began, after Travis joined Trump ... may be I could be wrong? Having said that, I don't want to undermine the legitimate concerns and complaints of the female staff.
ijafri··on Starting a real business
what CMS they are using or theme for their blog? custom?
ijafri··on Show HN: Gitly.io – high performance Git service with a 10s installation time
there is nothing wrong with the name, it's catchy and memorable ... and like Flickr and twttr you know.. it doesn't matter..

and always remember, if one is being 'critical' does not make them 'right' too. yep listen to it carefully, but do not assume they are right 'automatically'

ijafri··on Cloud Hosting Showdown: DO vs. Linode vs. Vultr vs. OVH vs. Scaleway
FRANKLY! these posts, had trigged a management response! who seem to be in deep love with DO :) https://tron.pk/page/how-digitalocean-is-helping-small-entre...
ijafri··on Vultr introduces $2.50/month plan
you barely can blame them.

>Our most affordable way to try out cloud computing, this plan features 512MB RAM and 20GB SSD disk storage. This is perfect for test-driving your next application before upgrading to production level specifications.

ijafri··on Ask HN: How would you turn Twitter around?
I have no clue why they stopped developing it any further, in old days you would eagerly wait for a new feature, every couple of month. That's also true back then it didn't even have image upload.

I'd expect it be something between Facebook and twitter itself. Nope never google+.

It needs a fresh look hmm! By fresh I meant the design as the aesthetics of web Facebook messenger a modern, miminial, fresh look. That Facebook lacks.

I'd want to it be bit less minimal but not as much bloated as Facebook hence I suggestrd earlier something between the Facebook and twitter itself.

It's stalled and boring, and at this point it looks like a driveless train that could hit the dead end pretty soon.

ijafri··on Pakistan airline admits taking extra passengers in aisle
something that's being ignored, there are three possibilities, and its' never PIA that it will prefer it let alone advertise aisle... It's about 2.30 hr flight from Karachi to Medina.

1. They are labors. and they can't miss the working day, they beg to fly in aisle

2. 99.9% is above, other than some religious pilgrims, who have tight schedule ...

3. PIA is dirt cheap for Karachi to Medina compared to ahem Emirates

And it wasn't as uncommon than one could think, until recent times, few decades ago, it was pretty regular thing for Karachi to Lahore (local flight ... 1 hr approx) ... as people have to meet certain time to perform a job .... and back then there were no local carrier compared to dozen of them now, and about 20+ KHI to LHE daily flights.

It's terrible, but chalking it up entirely to PIA is bit unfair...

ijafri··on Ask HN: Why don't Russia or China create counterfeit dollars?
Actually this wasn't a random thought, as I noticed Iran said they won't need dollars but would keep pursuing missile tests, hmmm. Then I thought denying $150 billion isn't as same as denying anything on earth.
ijafri··on Ask HN: Why don't Russia or China create counterfeit dollars?
Others do, I am talking on Govt level and such counterfeit currency according to my assessment would be hard to detect, given the 'press and printing' technology Govts especially Russians and Chinese may have.

Ok. If they already did or are doing it, then won't it hit US economy really hard or even make the paper currency irrelevant to begin with?

ijafri··on iPhone 8 Concept Design
It's freakishly looks like, production-ready. Good job.
