ihaveajob··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
Upzoning a neighborhood typically increases the value of the land, so that straw -man owner would benefit from it when/if they decide to sell their place.
ihaveajob··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
In general you can't take anyone whose job is to opine too seriously. When you're not familiar with what they're talking about, they make it sound reasonable and convincing. It's their skill after all. But now and then they talk about some topic you understand and care deeply about, and realize they're just repeating the talking points some staffer prepared for them shortly before. Most recently it happened to me with John Oliver talking about housing, reading from the standard left-NIMBY bingo card. I like him as a comedian, still.
ihaveajob··on Judge rules Trump administration’s blacklisting of Anthropic was illegal
No wonder in China they call Trump "the nation builder".
ihaveajob··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
I think a close analogy is Github. The base infrastructure is open source and replicable, and still there's a virtuous cycle that keeps people choosing it over the alternatives.
ihaveajob··on Munder Difflin – Agent harness to run an office of your clones
I don't think it's an oxymoron at all. An expert climber still uses a harness for safety, even though they won't (typically) try to jump off the wall.
ihaveajob··on Munder Difflin – Agent harness to run an office of your clones
Is that satire?
ihaveajob··on AliExpress runs silent WebAudio fingerprinting that breaks Bluetooth multipoint
It worked for Reddit... It used to be a 100% website experience and now I'd venture the majority of their traffic is from the mobile app.
ihaveajob··on Olo (Color)
No, that's a different color.
ihaveajob··on GPT-5.6
10h later and I'm still not getting it here in Spain, even with a Pro plan...
ihaveajob··on Renting a sewing machine from the library
Has. I can confirm.
ihaveajob··on Openrouter Fusion API
You found the smoking gun!
ihaveajob··on US Government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Well, I'm glad I used all my tokens earlier today... It was a good run.
ihaveajob··on Waymo Premier
Spread across a city probably more than you think, especially if you include parking tickets. I've never had a driving ticket, and maybe 4 parking ones over decades, but I'm probably on the lower end of the curve. In their first 40 days of operation, Oakland's speed cameras issued 82,000 tickets according to reports. I welcome those as they make streets safer, and I think they should be low cost, but high frequency.
ihaveajob··on I made my phone slow on purpose
I use https://steplimit.com/ to both cure my Reddit addiction and to walk more. You earn minutes on your tracked app(s) by walking. If you run out of minutes, either stop scrolling or go for a walk. It's so simple and so effective.
ihaveajob··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
In my time I heard some people called this the "Tower Records effect". If the workplace is cool enough (record store, video game company, rock band), enough kids will want to work there that the employer can pay peanuts and won't run out of applicants.
ihaveajob··on Germany Law to Force Algorithm Boost for State-Approved News
If this story is true, this is definitely a step in the wrong direction, but comparing freedom of Germany and China in those terms takes some special kind of mind bending.
ihaveajob··on Talking to strangers at the gym
Yes, same here. The title hasn't aged well, I suppose.
ihaveajob··on AISLE Discovers 38 CVEs in OpenEMR Healthcare Software
Not if you treat it as a magical box that fixes things on its own. We're a tiny team and our process has improved a lot thanks to processing AI reviews and learning common patterns. It gets tiring to get the same feedback over and over so humans learn.
ihaveajob··on Apple accidentally left Claude.md files Apple Support app
I find it hilarious that your comment has an emdash.
ihaveajob··on AISLE Discovers 38 CVEs in OpenEMR Healthcare Software
I guess the value of the tool is that it gives you that same benefit for the cost of a few tokens.
ihaveajob··on Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data
"Don't be evil" they used to say.
ihaveajob··on Open Source Isn't Dead. Cal.com Just Learned the Wrong Lesson
More eyes, more chances that someone will actually use the tools. Also, the tools and how you use them are not all the same.
ihaveajob··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
Not working on it yet but planning some projects with the kids: - A candy classifier with Arduino for Halloween (the goal is to have trick-or-treaters choose their preferred candy and have the machine sift it out automatically) - A board game based on the idea of fog-of-war, details undecided - An app to reduce screen time
ihaveajob··on We have a 99% email reputation. Gmail disagrees
It's gotten to the point that I don't open emails from Sendgrid support because 4 out of 5 are poorly disguised phishing attempts.
ihaveajob··on Inside Nepal's Fake Rescue Racket
I've heard the same from South Indian friends, so I guess it's pretty widespread.
ihaveajob··on A dot a day keeps the clutter away
This is neat but my OCD brain is hurting. I suspect a location based sorting, where most-recently-used boxes are near the top, or closer to your workstation, solves the same problem without the visual clutter.
ihaveajob··on Accidentally created my first fork bomb with Claude Code
Congratulations! Mine was intentional, back in college, where all PCs had open telnet in order to facilitate cooperation. We discovered it was easy to seize someone's computer for a while, and then watch them look around for the culprit, which we thought was hilarious. Boy were we annoying.
ihaveajob··on Polymarket gamblers threaten to kill me over Iran missile story
Yes! As a beginner-level, amateur armchair economist who hated philosophy class in high school, I have to admit I was surprised to learn about this when reading https://store.abramsbooks.com/products/economix by Michael Goodwin. The book overall seems to lean liberal whenever there's a political choice to be made, and yet it paints Adam Smith in a much more positive light that one would imagine, if all you've learned about him is the criticism of today's political left.

A really fun book, also!

ihaveajob··on AI Made Writing Code Easier. It Made Being an Engineer Harder
It's possible. At that time people were talking about Go as the next frontier (that didn't last long). IMO, the game is the same, and for 99.9999% of folks who ever play it, whether a computer can beat the best human is irrelevant in how fun it is to play.
