igl··on We’re Scientists, Moms, And We Avoid Non-GMO Products
Clickbait-mood-piece that has plenty of links to even worse articles.
igl··on Introducing NodeJS-Dashboard
Couldn't make it work nicely with child-processes :(
igl··on Love for TypeScript
does TS2 fix this?

    function uhoh (x:string|number) {
        if (typeof x === 'string') {
            return x.length
        } else {
            return 'bar'
        }
    }

    const a = uhoh('foo') //= string | number
    const b = uhoh(3)     //= string | number
igl··on Facebook to Change News Feed to Focus on Friends and Family
That is 10 years overdue and the main reason I closed my account years ago. It was like looking at a sponsored gawker newsfeed.

Today people do not even mention it anymore. Wether i meet new people or when i connect with old friends. Facebook disappeared from my life as quickly as it came in.

Do HN people still use Facebook?

igl··on UK votes to leave EU
What culture do bavarians and frisians share?
igl··on Today is Towel Day

igl··on From web dev to 3D: Learning 3D modeling
However: It won't be an career upgrade :/

I know very talented people and i guess that unless land a well paying job in the gaming or movie industry (good luck with that) you end up freelancing for construction companies and architects. Aligning sofas and tables...

igl··on After a year of using Node.js in production
Async-functions are the answer to all his problems. I generally agree on his conclusion though: Do small things, don't build big systems.

I hate that JS trys to be this OO-FP hybrid. Jack of all trades, master of none.

igl··on Bash on Windows: a hidden Bitcoin goldmine?
It's a loose assumption based on a chain of unlikely events, not a distinct outcome like the title suggests.

It's a ubuntu based subsystem. Apt-get probably uses their official repo and you would have to get your malware into that first and then make some windows beta-user install your new and unknown package.

igl··on Proposed JavaScript Standard Style
Use this if you want the readme badge. Use eslint if you are serious.
igl··on Bash on Windows: a hidden Bitcoin goldmine?
It's a beta release only available for insider subscribers. They also mention this issue in a channel9 video and are very well aware of the issue.
igl··on Bash on Windows: a hidden Bitcoin goldmine?
Clickbait.
igl··on Grunt 1.0.0 released
Webpack does not glob-search against the filesystem like grunt/gulp/brunch/broccoli/make. If you look for that: Sorry, webpack does not "replace" simple tools like that.

Think of it as a tool executing require.extensions at build time. It's not operating on files as much as it's looking directly at the source-code AST. That makes it more complex to get into over the glob tools but it's worth it.

It's also just as modular as anything else: http://npmsearch.com/?q=loader%20AND%20keywords:webpack

igl··on Developers, Being Treated Poorly? You Are Not Alone
We had a talented CS-student intern once.

They seated her in the marketing office away from the developers.

FML for developers?

igl··on Grunt 1.0.0 released
Obsolete before it hit 1.0. While grunt/gulp was fun for a while... i am not looking back to our 800 line grunt file, complicated async configuration and the tons of dev-dependencies.

Webpack blew everything out of the water. 80 lines of config, hot-reloading, code-spliting, hash-filenames... Looking forward to whats coming next.

igl··on Turkish Citizenship Database Leaked
that sounds like bavaria to me
igl··on Java for Everything (2014)
Java is the reason i stayed away from programming when i was a teenager.

Later I noticed that Java teams did not get things done quick.

My android phone stutters while playing music. (No it's not packed with apps, there is at least 200mb RAM free)

igl··on How to reduce the cognitive load of your code
No one ever mentions formatting.

I really like aligning multiline blocks, adding whitespace and useless braces here an there. e.g: Having just a single space between function name and arguments makes it look less like a call. Yet almost all lint presets/defaults forbid this. Typography is all about the whitespace between letters forming easily recognizable shapes.

igl··on Vulnerability #319816 – npm fails to restrict the actions of malicious packages
echo "save-prefix=''" > ~/.npmrc
igl··on Node 5.7.0 (stable) released
That's always the case for new language features. ES5 stuff was slow in the beginning and it took a while for v8 to catch up. This shouldn't be a reason for not using these new features.

This article is also years old. While it seems to be updated recently I wonder how accurate it still is.

igl··on UN panel 'rules in Assange's favour'
Ha. Organisations like the UN or EU are pointless if countries can just choose not to ratify decisions. Sad.
igl··on Bulma: Modern CSS framework based on Flexbox
I blame webpack.
igl··on Announcing TypeScript 1.8 Beta
Showing a less accurate error is worse than showing no error? How is that "less" frustrating if you have to find a bug? It does not DEMAND the argument type? Adding it to flow also improves the error message? How is that the right call?
igl··on Announcing TypeScript 1.8 Beta
Still... why have type inference in the first place if you can not safely utilize it. The argument for having things unsound is "to strike a balance between correctness and productivity". Having to declare types on everything even if it's just generics beats the productivity argument.
igl··on Announcing TypeScript 1.8 Beta
I recently learned that the TS type-checker is unsound on purpose and i am a bit disappointed.

igl··on Preact, a fast 3k React alternative
Or you could just have written a .ts.d file?
igl··on Preact, a fast 3k React alternative
Unfortunately no word on browser compat. But wow. I thought https://github.com/Lucifier129/react-lite was slim.

Is there a 1k-React challenge going on?

igl··on Europe fires warning shot against U.S. tech companies with new tax ruling
Meh. What about Holland and Luxemburg?
igl··on TPP banning requirements to transfer or access to source code of software
I can only think of TPP/TIPP as Protectionism... how can this go well?
igl··on 127-Year-Old U.S. Aluminum Industry Collapses Under China's Weight
Yes they are made of bamboo. The Chinese letter for chopsticks is a combination of 'fast' and 'bamboo'.

I also highly doubt america produces more than a fraction of those made in asia. Is bamboo even growing in north america?
