idleworx··on An experienced Javascript developer’s account of learning React
Same here. VueJS is a much better version of what Angular 1.x should have been, and so much easier to work with.
idleworx··on How these communist-era Apple II clones helped shape central Europe's IT sector
Ahh, a trip down memory lane. That's how my passion for programming started, on an HC computer. Those were the days when you could boot up right into BASIC.
idleworx··on Minecraft creator says he’s canceled talks for Oculus Rift version
+1 for Notch once again
idleworx··on FDA Preparing to change the Nutrition Labels
Public comments are apparently open but it's actually not clear how one can add a public comment:

idleworx··on Inside the presidental residence of Viktor Yanukovych, the president of Ukraine.
Reminds you of Ceausescu's downfall in 1998 ...
idleworx··on WhatsApp is down
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Kik. It's a great platform, and lots of users are switching to it now because of this aquisition. I think lots of people who are privacy conscious will make a move away from WhatsApp/Facebook in the next few months.
idleworx··on Facebook Buying WhatsApp for $16B in Cash and Stock Plus $3B in RSUs
One can only wonder how many services or products that provide true value and innovation around the world could have been created with that much money instead...
idleworx··on Facebook Buying WhatsApp for $16B in Cash and Stock Plus $3B in RSUs
And goodbye WhatsApp. It was time to move on anyway.
idleworx··on Ask HN: I was a victim of bike theft. What can I do?
Buy a new bike.
idleworx··on Gmail is boiling the frog – and we are the frog
I second that. outlook.com is great and clean.
idleworx··on Ask HN:Why do you all use macbooks
Because it's a fad. It's stylish, trendy and cool ... minimalistic and such.
idleworx··on How can I tell if a plant given to me is patented?
The mere fact that this question was asked is a sign of things being badly broken in the patent area.
idleworx··on Show HN: My pinboard-backed link blog
Links are not something you own, they are things you access. Obviously I don't 'own' the link news.ycombinator.com it's just a link.

Pinboard doesn't 'exist to charge me to gather other people's urls' it just gives me an excellent way of keeping track of links that I find useful and want to occasionally have access to (and does that across multiple computers/browsers which is great). Tumbler may be great for a few things, but I have thousands of bookmarks for example and tumblr would suck for that in my case ...

idleworx··on Show HN: My pinboard-backed link blog
That's fairly cool. Is there an actual pinboard.in API available these days, or did you just hack something together? I haven't checked pinboard.in in a while.

I had built http://data.idleworx.com/DeliStream/ a while ago to pull streaming data from delicio.us. Might be time I updated it to pinboard.in (something similar to your project but more real-time and from all users).

idleworx··on Introducing a new Java framework for web development: Micro
Interesting. Will check it out.

How is this different from the recently released Play framework. And can you give us more details as to why it should be used over SpringMVC or frameworks like Play?

idleworx··on Ask HN: What do you listen to while coding?
... the sound of silence (not the song)
idleworx··on Ask HN: Considering moving to a Mac - development pros and cons?
...switched to a mac once for development. Going from windows to mac was quite a hassle, especially when you're trying to get things done quickly right away and each little thing takes you on a 30 minute roadtrip to google to find out how to do things the mac way.

... for one thing I never got over the fact that I can't right click and create a file of a certain extension in the macfinder, and then open it like you can on windows. Why do I have to have an application open before I can create a file using the UI (I know it can't be done from the command line). Small things like that annoyed me enough to remain on windows.

If I'm gonna switch to a linux, might as well be onto a CentOS or Ubuntu box.

idleworx··on Ask HN: Best books you read in 2012
I'm going to add mine for 2012 too Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark"

http://www.amazon.com/The-Demon-Haunted-World-Science-Candle...

idleworx··on Ask HN: What's the best way to setup an email server on a VPS?
I would totally recommend using a 3rd party app like postmarkapp.com or something similar, especially if you're not a linux/vps guru. The amount of money you will pay will far outweigh the time and issues you'll have to deal with (that is if you have actual working products on those domains).
idleworx··on "Do Not Track" HTTP header supported by IE, Opera, FF, Safari but not Chrome
The Do Not Track movement and its whole premise is useless. I've blogged about why this is so a while ago: http://blog.idleworx.com/2012/02/do-not-track-movement-is-us...
idleworx··on Ask HN: How do you organize your bookmarks?
Yes there is. I've switched to pinboard.in from delicious a while back and have been happy so far. You can read my experience with pinboard if you're interested. http://blog.idleworx.com/2012/02/goodbye-delicious-hello-pin...
idleworx··on A startup founder's hourly rate
Thanks. I submitted it a while back but it didn't make it too far :-(
idleworx··on A startup founder's hourly rate
I agree. I had written a post on my blog similar to your line of tought a while back. More along the lines of people are overestimating what their time is actually worth. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3376081
idleworx··on Built this Craigslist Aggregator. What do you guy's think?
This is a useful app. Good job. Would like to be able to also search without entering a keyword.
idleworx··on Show HN: Delicious Spy is broken, so I built a new one
While I'm slowly transitioning to pinboard.io, because delicious is dropping the ball, I built this for old time's sake to replace the (now defunct it seems) http://www.ajaxonomy.com/deliciousspy/

It's fairly basic, but functional. Any improvement suggestions are welcome.

idleworx··on Pledge to cancel your Comcast in support of SOPA
You can write to your local county internet/cable charter and complain about the service quality.
idleworx··on [dead]
"Don't cry, Disney holds the rights to that emotion" ... epic.
idleworx··on Hungry Academy - get paid to learn Ruby
Great idea. It seems that the program is more targeted to people with little programming experience/fresh grads/etc? (but I may be wrong since I skimmed through the initial post).

I was wondering if you have or are planning similar programs/incentives for developers with significant prior experience (eg 5+ years of development) but not in the ruby/rails world who are interested in moving towards ruby/rails development?

idleworx··on Mixtapes go social with the brilliant app ‘Everyone’s Mixtape’
I've been thinking of just an app like this but for soundcloud.com.

Btw. Trying to log in with google open ID then selecting 'No Thanks' on the OpenID screen logs you in as 'vynsynt'. I assume that's a demo account? If not it looks like a security issue ...

idleworx··on What do you think of my landing page
Nice pic and landing page, but ...

I don't see how this app would benefit me (at least). What does it do exactly that anyone would be willing to pay money for? Or are you planning to make money through advertising and affiliate programs?

"Automatic shopping reminders" - There's tons of apps and todo apps like this.

"Local deals to help you save" - Again, tons of apps and websites and cupon websites providing this service (not to mention the daily safeway/shoppers/local grocery store cupons i get in the mail.

"Track your spending" - how exactly and why would I need this? Discovercard and other credit card companies alredy have very useful interfaces for sorting 'groceries' purchases (not to mention Mint.com and similar sites)

Other questions come to mind (if you're also thinking of implementing some kind of inventory tracking/mangement of 'fridge' items: - You scan a receipt, get the items, but then how do you know which ones aren't there anymore? - Who has time/patience to keep track of their fridge items in a website?

Overall, other than the 'potential' for the visual coolness factor of scanning my receipt and displaying that stuff in the fridge image online I don't see anything I would use here, much less pay money for, and even then, why wouldn't i just open my own fridge and look at it?

Just my two cents'...
