ibic··on Canada welcomes EU proposal to become 'associate member'
As a non-Canadian, I find this a very good news also. You said it well. What I didn't expect was that things could move at this lightning pace. Well done, EU & Canada!
ibic··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Pity that for such an obvious fact that even peasants like me can easily see, the "elite" European political leaders are still playing ostrich.
ibic··on Our position on open-weights models
"privileged access to chips", nailed it.
ibic··on Local, CPU-Friendly, High-Quality TTS (Text-to-Speech) with Kokoro
Saw it first on reddit, and later I created a small project to generate audio books from epub. So far I've listened to couple of books generated this way and am quite satisfied with the quality. There is just one particular word I remember that it pronounced wrongly - "Malay".
ibic··on DeepSeek v4
"Open Source" is the ultimate romance understood by software engineers.
ibic··on DeepSeek v4
In case people wonder where the announcement is (you can easily translate it via browser if you don't read Chinese): https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/8bxXqS2R8Fx5-1TLDBiEDg

It's still a "preview" version atm.

ibic··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
"the operators of the site remain unidentified." I laughed at this quite a bit.
ibic··on MacBook Neo
The last point made me chuckle, good catch :D
ibic··on Claude's Cycles [pdf]
Wow, it's from Donald Knuth.
ibic··on Laptops with Stickers
I never put on stickers (except the Stain Javelin) on my laptop. It may be just me, but if feels messy to me.
ibic··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
We are in an age that being screwed by the Giant Techs is inevitable and there is pretty nothing much we can do.
ibic··on Go is still not good
Please elaborate or give some examples to back your claim?
ibic··on Switching from Pyenv to Uv
I'm not sure if I got your issue, but I can do platform-dependent `index` `pytorch` installation using the following snippet in `pyproject.toml` and `uv sync` just handles it accordingly.

[tool.uv.sources] torch = [{ index = "pytorch-cu124", marker = "sys_platform == 'win32'" }]

ibic··on Switching from Pyenv to Uv
I happened to use uv recently for a pet project, and I totally agree with you. It's really really good. I couldn't believe its dependency resolution and pulling can be so fast. Imho, it's the python package manager (I don't know the most suitable name to categorize it) done right, everything just works, the correct way.
ibic··on CrowdStrike to Delta: Stop pointing at us
I sense legal escalation coming.
ibic··on Google made me ruin a perfectly good website (2023)
This reminds of "Bidding Rank" from Baidu decades ago (and I think it pretty much still applies for Baidu) - Google was not only better technologically, but ethically because their search results were not that profit driven as "Bidding Rank" which was (and still is) very much despised. Now it seems Google only cares about profit and started to do things more or less the same way.

Sick.

Disclosure - I was so pissed by the degration of quality (an money-thirstiness) of the search results from Google that I switched to a non-profit search engine as my default for both desktop and mobile. The daily search experience doesn't have much noticible change to me. I do admit sometimes the Google search result could be better sometimes, but those occasions are quite rare for my needs, like maybe once a week.

ibic··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
That "Jigar Kumar" is like fake and one-time throw-off account, probably from the same state actor to orchestrate the painstakingly prepared supply chain attack (under the sun).
ibic··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
Yes, I believe it's an state actor, and the intention of choosing a typical Chinese name Jia Tan is intentially and malicious.
ibic··on XZ backdoor killswitch
If an attacker is so smart and patient to pull of a sneaky supply chain attack like this, I'd say he/she/they must have been quite carefully choosing the moniker and hide/obfuscate other potentially identity revealing information (afaik, there is no reliable identity information found at the moment). So by choosing a very typical Chinese name (Jia Tan), I believe this is intentially misleading/smearing. I can't believe a smart ass (potenially a state actor) would be so stupid to use his/her/their actual nationality or other information.
ibic··on BYD's YangWang U8 launched, can float on water for 30 minutes and sail 3km/h
You comment recalled the moment when Elon Musk laughed off BYD years ago for me. You will be told why with hard data.
ibic··on Observation of zero resistance above 100 K in Pb₁₀₋ₓCuₓ(PO₄)₆O
I think you are referring to the pioneer work done by Prof. Chair Tong-seek (or Dongsik Choi as another spelling) here? https://twitter.com/sanxiyn/status/1684437744406392833

Any Korean can give some brief summary over the book that tweets mentioned?

ibic··on Observation of zero resistance above 100 K in Pb₁₀₋ₓCuₓ(PO₄)₆O
So this almost means the holy grail has been found or we are pretty close?
ibic··on Remove “This incident will be reported.” from user warnings
As it happens - "The warning was restored in a slightly altered form in 9757d29" ( https://github.com/sudo-project/sudo/commit/9757d29a24ac1872... ) - Millert.
ibic··on TikTok Ban Bill Is Patriot Act 2.0 Trojan Horse [video]
The TikTok Ban can be said to be controversal, but to me, it's definitely not to be compared to something akin to a trojan horse.
ibic··on Why SAT Is Hard
First, did I say my previous commebnt disagrees with anything you said? Second, if it's not due to "disagreement", why did you add the last "EDIT"?
ibic··on Why SAT Is Hard
Not everyone here is an experienced prover/mathematician, and SAT can mean different things, and I believe many people will view it as the SAT test especially when you pair it with "difficult" in the tile wihtout any other context.
ibic··on Poll: Would You Work for Elon?
no
ibic··on I finally found a use case for my Raspberry Pi Model B+
I have a P4 CM, for which I have: - Installed a 2TB NVMe m.2 SSD (with a PCI to m.2 adapter) - Configured Samba and use it as a poor man's NAS, which is actually not so bad. - Installed Kodi and hook it to TV via HDMI 0, another poor man's media center (as a side effect, YouTube plugin for Kodi doesn't have ads) - Installed Syncthing, which servs as my major private backup system. (I know, Syncthing is not really a backup solution per se, but I just enjoy the dropbox-like convenience so much, and it has some basic versioning capability, good enough for my need) - Installed PiHole (actually on another Pi 3 which I have for years and reluctant to throw away as it's still working) and my kid won't be annoyed by the ads while playing with iPad - I'm diverging, but some app still shows a "watch videos for in-game items" button even after I purchased the "remove-ad package", which I really hate for kid to waste time on, not to mention many App Store games/apps are heavily ad-ridden nowadays) - Occasionally run the free Mathimatica that comes with the system for some very basic math calculation/demo - Setup nginx and configured a DDNS with LetsEncrypt, it serves some very basic stuffs that I'd rather keep private. - Used to run some cron jobs for some minor tasks.

In short, it's a low-power tiny linux server which I'm satified to tinker with, and I assume other good SBCs like BananaPi/ODroid/etc will serve the same perpose well also.

ibic··on Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded to Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger
What a pity. Bell's theorem impressed me so much that I consider it one of the most ingenious (thought) experiment/proof ever, and it has a very huge significance in interpretation of quantum physics (to me it resonates Richard Feynman's saying "I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics")
ibic··on Physicists link two time crystals in seemingly impossible experiment
"delayed-choice quantum eraser" is so mind-boggling that I don't see any comprehensible explanations to me, a beautiful enigma that locks one of deepest secrets of our universe. And my brain simply refuses to accept any violation of causality - I consider causality possibly the most fundamental rules of physics, if it conflicts with others, I can only consider other rules to not hold.
