i67vw3··on Dutch man sabotaged Iranian nuclear program without Dutch government's knowledge
>Van Sabben immediately left Iran after successfully sabotaging the country’s nuclear program, the researchers concluded. He died two weeks later in a motorcycle accident near his home in Dubai. Nothing points to foul play, the Volkskrant said after speaking with people at the crash scene.

Definitely killed by either Dutch/Americans/Saudis or Iranians.

i67vw3··on Robert Maxwell was largely responsible for how scientific journal system evolved
The whole epstein thing is pretty crazy. Even the best mystery/thriller hollywood films pale in comparison to it.
i67vw3··on Twitter Community Notes leader board
Is this offical twitter/x leaderboard or an unofficial leaderboard made by gathering open source data?

Also, the list contains usual suspects as expected.

i67vw3··on Blockbuster Alzheimer's paper retracted by former Stanford president
Good point, I too have came to the same conclusion after observing both parties around me.
i67vw3··on Maersk ship hit by missile in the Red Sea
True.

You have put it more succinctly than me. In Geopolitics, 'Might creates deterrence.'

i67vw3··on Zeekr launches 007 sedan for under $30K, 540 mile range, over 50k pre-orders
One thing from a consumer perspective (brand perspective) is chinese cars have very bad company names eg., BYD, Zeekr, Xpheng, Geely if compared to other brands from other countries like Toyota, Hyundai, Audi, Ford, TATA etc.

Personally, I would not roam around with 'Xpheng' name etched on my car.

i67vw3··on Ask HN: How can I use Twitter without using Twitter
Nitter has RSS feeds. I used to use twitter for few years via this way. You can even see account replies via RSS.

But, I think nitter has recently disabled RSS feed on main instance https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/issues/986. Try to find other instance which support it.

i67vw3··on "Hallucinate" – Dictonary.com's word of the year 2023
I first came across 'hallucination' term regarding LLM's by HN comment https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33842230
i67vw3··on BC Supreme Court bars man from calling himself an 'engineer'
As far as I know, in US/Canada after a students graduates from a civil engineering course, he is called as Engineer In Training (EIT) after he passes Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam.

Then he has to work for 3/5 years at a engineering firm. He will then have to pass Professional Engineering (PE) exam to be called PE. I think he also has to get two recommendations from other PE's then only he can get certified as PE.

Usually, in US you are considered a 'real' engineer only when you get certified as PE.

i67vw3··on Swedish court rules against Tesla in dispute with postal service over deliveries
Tesla should crush pesky swedish unions, no matter what.

Buy ports, buy ships, buy trucks, buy electricians, buy a brand new postal service etc.

The $26 B cash on hand should be used somewhere, instead of usual executive package and share buyback.

Edit:- If my comment is not as per HN guidelines, I am willing to delete it.

i67vw3··on Apple Aims to Make a Quarter of the iPhones in India
Apple will need to exit India due to unions, corruption, lack of Medium Scale Manufactures, bureaucracy as many of MNC have done or are doing it right now.

It will be better for Apple to shift manufacturing from Mainland China to Vietnam etc.

i67vw3··on Drought encouraged Attila's Huns to attack the Roman Empire, tree rings suggest
True, looks like 'reimagining history'.

In my opinion, a lot of these 'migration' were done primarily to expand own territory even if current territory was sufficient to fulfil needs of the population. It is human extinct to go to war with neighbours for petty reasons.

Recent Eg., Spanish invasion of america, british/dutch colonies. Also future expansion to Moon, Mars.

i67vw3··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
Also to lessen the MSFT share impact.
i67vw3··on Privacy is priceless, but Signal is expensive
Send them via whatsapp. A lot of online services give an option to send OTP via whatsapp along with SMS/Email.
i67vw3··on Starship will attempt a launch this Friday
https://www.faa.gov/data_research/commercial_space_data. There is nothing here. Check "Additional Commerical Space Data" -> Location: Boca Chica.

Official Launch license has still been not granted. But it will likely launch on Friday.

i67vw3··on Starship will attempt a launch this Friday
This a not a launch license according to this post. A launch license has not been actually granted.

i67vw3··on Show HN: Ladder, open source alternative to 12ft.io and 1ft.io
There is a bit of 'tussle' going on between the two of them for quite a few years as you pointed out.

i67vw3··on Show HN: Ladder, open source alternative to 12ft.io and 1ft.io
Archive.today never fails compared to Archive.org or various browser extensions

To remove paywalls 12ft<Archive.org<Archive.today is my opinion.

i67vw3··on Young people would sacrifice other perks for a 4-day workweek
I did not mean necessarily offshore jobs like tech call centres but capital which is sent into 'growing/emerging economies' creating various manufacturing jobs in india/china/SE Asia where human resources can be used 'efficiently'.
i67vw3··on It's almost showtime for SpaceX's Starship rocket
You can actually walk very close to starbase. It is situated on open highways. You can also get few feet away from the actual rocket as one public road passes through starbase in the middle, which is still open to visitors.
i67vw3··on Young people would sacrifice other perks for a 4-day workweek
And offshore jobs (china, india) growing simultaneously.
i67vw3··on Starlink has achieved breakeven cash flow
Also, the business roaming plans used on airplanes, cargo ships are quite costly, I think around $2000/month.
i67vw3··on Google AI chief says there's a 50% chance we'll hit AGI in just 5 years
A 'consciousness' tries to reproduce (humans, animals, bacteria etc) to preserve itself. The day AI decides to kill not a human but humanity itself will be the day AGI is achieved. Until then 'AI' is vapourware, turing test and other such tests are meaningless.
i67vw3··on Mouse experiments reveal the brain-heart connections that cause fainting
In my school, they started taking blood tests during annual medical checkup. (certified doctors & parents permission).

100 students participated in the blood tests out of which I think atleast 4 fainted. The test was done by just piercing a small needle, & not the actual extraction of large amount of blood. The analogy is slightly different than a vaccine shot, but nonetheless the setup is same by using needle.

i67vw3··on Product Hunt cleans house with layoffs impacting 60% of staff
It has gone so bad in many countries that companies cannot even fire people (due to headache that comes with it) and have to ask employees to rather resign via some way (WFO)
i67vw3··on Amazon reaches 10k Rivian electric delivery vans in US

i67vw3··on SiFive Rolls Out RISC-V Cores Aimed at Generative AI and ML

i67vw3··on WhatsApp Down
One of the companies I interned was using Whatsapp but then migrated to Teams/Slack.

Employees did not like it and after a few months everyone migrated to Whatsapp.

i67vw3··on The Mayan calendar might represent a longer timescale than previously considered
Even before East India Company, India faced several outsider attacks.

From Alexander the Great to various Khan's, then Mughals, then Portuguese etc. Some important Indian texts were burned/destoryed in these attacks, For eg., the Nalanda University

Still, a lot of texts remained both in written format and in Oral format.
