hyfgfh··on The Level Design Book
that's what a LLM would say
hyfgfh··on "AI-first" is the new Return To Office
> The return to office fad was a big part of this effort, often largely motivated by reacting to the show of worker power in the racial justice activism efforts of 2020.

Not against this point, but I don't get it, maybe because I don't live in the US, but I see as another way to "soft-fire" people, as is this AI crazy What I'm missing?

hyfgfh··on Tech Workers are just like the rest of us: miserable at work
People have the notion that tech workers are overpaid man-children that have to be babysat by their companies

The reality is, we're constantly dealing with increasingly tighter deadlines and unreasonable demands to deliver products that, even if they make it to market, are likely to be shut down within five years. We're basically glorified sandcastle builders

With AI, things have gotten even worse, people now believe everything is easy just because they can build a to-do app with a prompt

hyfgfh··on The AI skeptic's guide to AI collaboration
Yes, and I already got those

hyfgfh··on The Industrialization of IT
Agree US market seems bloated, not only salaries but also positions, you can find "seniors" with 2 years of experience, maybe a side effect from the pandemic boom
hyfgfh··on How University Students Use Claude
I'm glad for AI, I was worried that future generation would overtake me, now I know they won't be able to learn anything
hyfgfh··on Supervisors often prefer rule breakers, up to a point
Dont add Elon Musk quotes to any serious thing please
hyfgfh··on Rest Easy
no rest for the wicked
hyfgfh··on Tell Mozilla: it's time to ditch Google
More like a lapdog I'm right
hyfgfh··on Mozilla's response to proposed remedies in U.S. vs. Google
> But Mozilla is definitely wasting a lot of money on stuff that doesn't contribute to their mission.

Yes, I have noticed that too and every year they sink deeper with ads and shady choices

If they keep it lean and with a high standard the community wouldn't stop supporting it, but every 6 month or so they make a shady decision and lose more support

hyfgfh··on Brazil top court threatens to suspend X within 24 hours
Can't read the news just the headline? Maybe that's the crime!
hyfgfh··on AI solves International Math Olympiad problems at silver medal level
> First, the problems were manually translated into formal mathematical language for our systems to understand.

Some people call this programming

hyfgfh··on Programmers should never trust anyone, not even themselves
If I had a dollar for each frontend test that actually don't actually test anything I would be able to retire by now!
hyfgfh··on Waymo One is now open to everyone in San Francisco
And mingle with the masses? in SF?

Maybe if they re-invent trains or buses again

hyfgfh··on Home-Cooked Software and Barefoot Developers
I wonder if LLMs is the new low-code.

A promise that is never going to work.

hyfgfh··on A JavaScript Nightmare
To be fair, JavaScript is harder that most people think, the problem is that everyone thinks they are an expert, so we end up with this kind of problems. There is a lack of engineering discipline and too much hacking!
hyfgfh··on React Labs: What We've Been Working On – February 2024
> CRA was useful when it first appeared because the whole space was a big mess. But it very quickly outlived its usefulness, and its approach was really problematic in my opinion. The config was too complex to eject and modify compared to what you could do yourself with Webpack directly.

Yes agree, but writing and marinating config for multiple projects just don`t scale. Not to mention we need something dirty and fast.

hyfgfh··on React Labs: What We've Been Working On – February 2024
A new solution could replace some of the tools we use today, making it obsolete and not worth maintaining in the future.

Make sense, but the lack of an "oficial" solution doesn't help https://react.dev/learn/start-a-new-react-project

hyfgfh··on React Labs: What We've Been Working On – February 2024
So thats why CRA has been left to die?
hyfgfh··on One Billion Row Challenge Shows Java Can Process 1B Rows File in 2 Seconds
It depends on the machine, but some people got very fast results. https://github.com/gunnarmorling/1brc/discussions/57

Why would you use Javascript for that?

hyfgfh··on Tech world won't have long to fall in line when EU signs off on AI Act
No, no innovation in vaporware.

hyfgfh··on We Ditched REST and Went with GraphQL: Here’s Why
GraphQL isn`t an alternative for REST. GraphQL is a solution for very specific cases and even in this cases it has his own drawbacks.
hyfgfh··on React is holding me hostage
I have been using react since 2015, hooks for the most part seems like a miss.

I use sometimes, but for the most part is overused feature.

I think thats a symptom of a problem with the front end community, people get too attached to the new thing and try to make it the standard instead of building something stable and concise.

Im tired to having to rewrite a code because one library that I had to upgrade decided to migrate to the "new thing"

hyfgfh··on Scotland starts renewed case for independence
Maybe we can get a United Ireland by 2024 as Star Trek predicted
hyfgfh··on Ask HN: 6-hour workdays more important than 4-day workweeks IMO
Technically 4 days would be better because of the commute and extended weekends for the employee. But as an employer 6 hours workdays would be the best, you get basically the same value of your employees, since mostly office workers don't really work the 8 and also would make then free to study.

You could also go crazy and get a second or third job.

hyfgfh··on NPM Vulnerability Discussion on Twitter
Non-essential dependencies are for the weak and every single company that I worked for.
