huuu··on The Most Dangerous Town on the Internet – Where Cybercrime Goes to Hide
Cyberbunker left the bunker around 2003 and the hosting provider (Bunkerinfra) who housed it afterward filed bankruptcy in 2015. So there is nothing dangerous about that bunker shown in the movie.
huuu··on Alan Kay on the misunderstanding of OOP (1998)
True. But because as today it's easier to implement doesn't mean we won't have aircraft with flapping wings in the future.
huuu··on Alan Kay on the misunderstanding of OOP (1998)
Well I asked because lets say queuing does not occur, then you might want to design a system that can send and receive messages in without queue.
huuu··on Alan Kay on the misunderstanding of OOP (1998)
Does queuing occur when cells communicate?
huuu··on Alan Kay on the misunderstanding of OOP (1998)
I might be wrong, but I think people like Alan Kay and Christopher Alexander have in common that they:

   * see that things can be done better (not as in upgrade but best);
   * have a global idea/feeling of how this could be done;
   * take a lot of ideas from nature.
And somehow I think they have a lot of trouble expressing the 'how'.

My take: we should take a good look at nature because this is closest to what we are. For example the communication between objects could be learned from cells.

huuu··on Passenger drones are hovering over the horizon
I don't think this is going to be mainstream very soon because these multi rotors can only fly for a few minutes.

Right now batteries are way too heavy. And combustion engines can't alter speed that quick.

huuu··on Even Mark Zuckerberg puts tape over his webcam
I commented on this related to a blind programmer: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11887301

Eric Schmidt is wrong.

huuu··on Tesla Makes Offer to Acquire SolarCity
Ofcourse with Sailfish OS, because the Scandinavians love Tesla.
huuu··on Tesla Makes Offer to Acquire SolarCity
Some weeks ago Elon Musk said that he thinks that Apple is a bigger competitor than Google but that Apple is coming (too) late to the show.

Elon also said the car market is huge, very huge. So Tesla and Apple are just small compared to others.

If you talk about car competition you should take a look at the big players. Volvo for example is already running tests with complete autonomous cars (100 people driving them). And almost all other brands have self driving cars and electric cars.

So I don't think Apple as a competitor has anything to do with it. Apple is just too small in this industry (for now).

And as for Apple becoming a power company: it's still unclear what Apple is going to do with it in the future. For now they are just selling the excess power they create with the solar panels on the campus and other places.

huuu··on The Fathers of the Internet Urge Today’s Software Engineers to Reinvent the Web
Aren't the main reasons everything went centralized: bandwidth and reliability?

Maybe this can be solved with good caching.

But what you don't want is your site / post going viral which will bring down your internet connection.

huuu··on Ask HN: What projects are perfect for learning a new language?
I always start out with a simple raytracer / path tracer (spheres only).

It's always nice to see visuals appear (in a file or on screen). It's like a compliment for the work done.

And you will learn a lot of basic stuff like loops, scope, types, and so on.

huuu··on Deconstructing the DAO Attack: A Brief Code Tour
I agree that greed is a world wide problem. But even when we trade in goods services and coins it doesn't change the fact that a lot of people are greedy.

This is on HN because this story is interesting from a technical point of view.

huuu··on Second Gravitational Wave Detected at LIGO
Does this work the same as it does with waves on the ocean?

The waves on the ocean are also turbulent distortions by the wind which pack together was waves (a group of 14 waves with the 7th as the highest and all waves after the 7th barely noticeable).

It seems that the 7th spike measured at LIGO is also the highest. Maybe the grouping of turbulent distortions as waves is something universal?

huuu··on Berners-Lee: WWW is spy net
You are still describing a social problem.
huuu··on Berners-Lee: WWW is spy net
It's already possible for everybody to host his own mail server. But we choose to let Google host all our conversations. So the problem is more social.
huuu··on We Hired a Blind Coder
I think this is another reason why privacy is important. Sometimes you need to hide something. Not because you are doing something illigal but just for personal reasons.

$10k is quite good in the rest of the world by the way ;) Good luck!

huuu··on Image Dithering: Eleven Algorithms and Source Code
It's a kind of funny those images look nice on high res screens.

Some time ago I experimented with 16-32 color images on websites. Because of high res screens they look great but save a lot of data.

huuu··on Dual Supernovae Light Up June Nights
I feel the opposite: I also feel tiny but relevant because in this huge space we are (as far as we know it) the only form of life.
huuu··on A Grain of Salt
Most cars from Volvo and Mercedes can drive at least 300,000 miles (500,000 km) so 70k is nothing.

But on the other hand suspension problems like this are also nothing. Drive into a hole hard enough and something breaks. Just happens.

huuu··on Microsoft Finds Cancer Clues in Search Queries
Isn't the real story here that Bing is keeping track of user's search queries for months?

Google Flu is working different. They try to predict a flu epidemic by counting related search queries.

But Microsoft is predicting the health of a single person based on his search history.

Edit: Thinking about it: ofcourse Google, Facebook and others could do the same because they also gather user data.

huuu··on Flow vs. Typescript
IDEs can also mess with comments because they don't parse it as code. A simple extra linebreak added and your code breaks.
huuu··on Flow vs. Typescript
But programming with comments is bad practice.

Maybe in this case it doesn't matter very much but there are a lot of ways comments can get lost or messed up.

huuu··on Is your smartphone listening to you?
I think this is the only model for Whatsapp. They know who is talking to who. They don't know what you are talking about but that doesn't matter when one or two persons in a group show some interest in a subject.
huuu··on Snapchat Passes Twitter in Daily Usage
Are you sure about the quality?

I watched Twitter after EgyptAir flight 804 was lost. And I was amazed by the amount of shit I got to see. Everybody was placing assumptions, unknown 'facts', stupidity and so on.

Sometimes I saw a relevant post but then it got reposted a trillion.

Maybe some streams are of good quality. But my breaking news experience was not of high quality I must say.

huuu··on Ask HN: Does anyone still uses Google+?

huuu··on A Rock-Sorting Robot
Sometimes this can be done by simply trowing them in a funnel and let slots of different sizes sort them. Just like those coin sorting machines.

But in your case a sorting conveyor belt could be the easiest way. The right items are pushed off the belt at the right time.

Edit: an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajxs6_V8KJM

And by the way: if you got 50 unique items it doesn't mean you need 50 slots. You can also create 10 and repeat the process for the unsorted items. But you need to reprogram the system each run.

huuu··on Four hundred miles with Tesla’s autopilot forced me to trust the machine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYqtu39d3CU

In this Volvo movie the driver is opening a note book and making notes and also is watching a movie.

Both Tesla and Volvo have auto pilot mode which still needs an alert driver. But they advertise it like autonomous driving.

Edit: Volvo will launch Level 4 autonomous driving indeed. So they are a step ahead of Tesla. But it's confusing because they also call it auto pilot: http://www.volvocars.com/au/about/innovations/intellisafe/au...

huuu··on Four hundred miles with Tesla’s autopilot forced me to trust the machine
After watching this and a Volvo movie I wonder what happens when you touch the steering wheel when you are in autopilot mode.

It's nice that you can check your mail or read a news paper in autopilot mode as advertised but doesn't this create the danger of touching the steering wheel, turning autopilot of, while still holding a newspaper in your hand?

Also I can imagine people could fall asleep when the car is driving.

huuu··on Please don't send me smart replies
For me one of the reasons of not having social accounts is privacy. But I also hate that more and more people are starting to communicate in a virtual way.

This is another example of the emptyness it will give.

huuu··on CSS coding techniques
What also helps a lot is to keep in mind that classes are for classifications (categories) and id's for identifications (unique).

I see a lot of people using classes to create unique styles for specific elements. This will make a mess of your stylesheet.

Also try not to think too much in subcategories (nested classes) because it will remove flexibility from you stylesheet. For example:

  .button {}
  .button.text-center {}
is used to create buttons with centered text. But now you need to create another class for other elements that need centered text. So instead this would be more flexible:

  .button {}
  .text-center {}
In both cases you can use <element class="button text-center">.
