huuu··on It Costs $30 to Make a DIY EpiPen
Voting with your wallet is very short sighted. Some examples:

A manager replaces free coffee in the office with a paid vending machine to save expenses. Moral goes down. Production goes down.

A team member is fired because she has the worst production level of the team. What they did not know is that this team member was holding the team together.

So there are a lot of side effects to every decision. And therefore I think voting with your wallet is a bad idea.

huuu··on Ask HN: In what areas are NoSQL Databases beneficial over Relational Databases?
If you need data integrity you will need a RDBMS.
huuu··on Elon Musk on How to Build the Future
Lately I'm very concerned about my posture. Now I'm watching two people who both have a bad posture like me (hunchback, forward head). And I'm sure this is becoming a problem in the 'read from a screen all day' age.

So the future of better interfaces (with your brain) Elon is talking about might be also much better for our health.

huuu··on Geekbench: iPhone 7 faster than all Macbook Airs in single thread
As far as I know Ubuntu and Windows are already doing this. But as you said without much luck.

I also think this is the future. But not only for the switch to desktop. Also as car console, key store, tv remote, synthesizer (just put it in a midi device) and so on.

You personal key to everything. And your single attack vector...

huuu··on Tesla dropped by Mobileye for “pushing the envelope in terms of safety”
In an interview George Hotz said he told Elon to drop Mobileye. George is repeating how bad that company is.

So it seems not only Tesla thinks Mobileye can't keep up with safety. Others noticed this too.

huuu··on Angular 2 Final Released
Is there a way to download Angular2 as Javascript file? Last time I checked I had to install loads of software just to start a Angular project.
huuu··on Polr – A modern, minimalist, and lightweight URL shortener in PHP
Because your project is useless when a dependency is removed in the future. It happened to me one time and now I'm really considering to include the vendor folder in my own repository.

Of course a dependency manager is still very useful to setup a new project.

huuu··on Mojave Desert solar plant kills 6,000 birds a year
It would be more interesting to look at what kind of birds are killed.
huuu··on “It's The Future”
"I am frustrated by the industry as a whole"

Unfortunately I have to agree as a developer. My job is to make a fast, reliable, stable product but at the same time I'm questioned the tools I use by people who don't have any knowledge but heard the latest trend.

But sometimes it's also very easy to please people. Big data: just insert 10M records in a database and suddenly everyone is happy because they now have big data :|

huuu··on What Great Listeners Actually Do
Good listeners are also well rested.

I'm a good listener, but not at the moment. After long days of programming and some lack of sleep I notice that my listening is going down. I really dislike this because I think now I'm faking to be a good listener.

As for a lot of things: rest and sleep is important.

huuu··on CSS mix-blend-mode is bad for your browsing history
Does this require a click from the user? Couldn't you set a background image to make a GET request to the server with the results?
huuu··on Who’s the First Person in History Whose Name We Know? (2015)
"that's a very modern idea of a job"

I don't agree. A vizier [1] is very related to an accountant. For example: Joseph (book of Genesis) became a vizier and had to account for the supplies in storehouses. Maybe he didn't do the accounting himself, but I'm sure they had a way to write down what was in stock and what not. They also traded with surrounding countries that were out of stock, so I'm sure this was bigger than the work of a small businessman.

huuu··on Millennium Tower is tilting, sinking
I think you would be amazed how far it could tilt before it collapses.

For example the Tower of Pisa (55m height) is leaning much worse: almost 4 meters.

huuu··on Huge no. of files for Angular 2
Why? If framework X does roughly the same as framework Y which is 50% in size then you can estimate that the code of Y is more effective.
huuu··on Tips from the Pragmatic Programmer (2000)
Some years ago PHP scripts would crash (without log) if the script file was exactly 1024 bytes. After days of blaming our own code we found out about this bug. No unit test would have figured that one out.
huuu··on What It’s Like to Live in the World’s Most Polluted City
Yep. Thats why there are signs telling you not to use the toilet at stations.

On the other hand the streets in the Netherlands are littered with dog poo..

huuu··on Israel Proves the Desalination Era Is Here
In The Netherlands they are testing the growth of potatoes on salt water.

So we can also try to adapt to salt water

huuu··on Edward Snowden's New Research Aims to Keep Smartphones from Betraying Owners
"It seems very unlikely that you would be able to sense those frequencies"

Is this true? What about heat radiation for example. We can feel that.

And we can see/sense changes in electromagnetic fields: http://www.nature.com/ncomms/journal/v2/n6/full/ncomms1364.h...

huuu··on Terrorist attack in France

huuu··on Islamic terrorism as a phenomenon
I'm sorry but what does Franco-Tunisian has to do with being pro IS?

He might be, but you are confusing assumptions for facts.

huuu··on Terrorist attack in France
But was this an ISIS attack?
huuu··on Terrorist attack in France
How do you know this was an religious attack?
huuu··on Terrorist attack in France
I think it's sad that everybody is already jumping into conclusions. The same happened with the missing flight MS804. Everybody was shouting 'IS attack' but we still don't know.

This is dangerous because it troubles our thinking.

huuu··on Islamic terrorism as a phenomenon
This got probably posted after the event in Nice. But keep in mind there is still no evidence this was an Islamic attack.
huuu··on Gimp 2.9.4 Released
Note this is a developer edition.

I just went to the download page to find out this is not a stable version.

But, as the page says: "GIMP 2.9.4 is quite reliable for production work, but there are still loose ends to tie"

huuu··on 3D Printer Comparison: $200,000 vs. $2500
If his conclusion were true companies like Shapeways would only use cheap hobby printers. But ofcourse it is not.

Reliability, support, accuracy, all lacking with hobby printers.

huuu··on Peter Doig sued for disavowing 40-year-old painting
Can you point out some similarities?

I'm looking at the paintings of Peter Doig but I have a hard time finding something that looks like the painting of Peter Edward Doige. The strokes, technique, use of color. They are all different.

huuu··on Sharpest ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy (2015)
Does anyone know why those patterns [1] appear when you zoom in like 10 steps or so? Are those stitches or some artifacts of the sensor?

huuu··on CSS is powerful, you can do a lot of things without JS
Ah! I read the parent's post as sarcastic. But you are right, a little delay can be good.
huuu··on CSS is powerful, you can do a lot of things without JS
Fortunately you can use animation-delay to simulate bloated Javascript.
