hugodan··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
See 4.7 in https://ico.org.uk/media2/migrated/2259371/investigation-int...

Cambridge Analytica had substantial discussions with Leave.EU, the campaign associated with Arron Banks and Nigel Farage. It attended meetings, appeared at a Leave.EU press event, prepared proposals, and discussed using data and psychological profiling. At the time, both Leave.EU figures and Cambridge Analytica publicly made statements suggesting a working relationship.

Facebook knew about the Kogan/CA transfer in 2015 and failed to respond adequately, instead they relied largely on deletion assurances rather than immediately auditing, and users weren't informed until 2018.

But more, CA was created as consequence and a way to profit out of the 2012 Six4Three scandal, after Mark Zuckerberg personally designed/approved the permissive data-sharing ecosystem specifically for these use cases (as several internal mails show).

hugodan··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
Before Trump they practiced on Brexit and the whole Leave.EU movement.

This link at best shows us Mark Zuckerberg playing his standard card of victim and faking (again) that he didn't know about anything, while all evidence point that he actively played a role in it.

hugodan··on Declarative WebGPU with S-Expressions
Hi unconed!

these are very good points, with my attempt the only run-time polymorphism is a switch inside a shader. Maybe we can exploit the pipeline constants and then branch on them, still feels like a hack, but could work for a poor man approach.

I have never done advanced/modern rendering things, just 2D/vector/sdfs and hacks, but your comment is food for thought, in that in this level of abstraction these are somewhat open problems.

hugodan··on Declarative WebGPU with S-Expressions
hey! indeed, it is a pattern more from Python/Kotlin/etc and on first sight it looks awful for those used to work in more lispy ways.

pngine is using a data language I made for fun with s-expressions and appropriately named "SJON". It is a data language (kinda like EDN, or er.. JSON) to declare things, not to run/interpret things, it has no reader macros, no quote/unquote, no eval, no cons or car/cdr or..., the only thing similar to Lisp is really the surface look, and on the surface triple quotes really feel like they don't belong in there.

But I need to paste WGSL into a config file and WGSL can be full of " and \, and I have no reader to extend.

In a way I'm glad you didn't spend a lot of time and got lost at the start ahah because if the triple quote bothered you the rest would too.

For instance, in SJON strings don't remember their quotes:

  (= """hello""" "hello") ; true
  (= "a\nb" """a
b""") ; true, escapes resolve before comparison
It is a data language, and one thing I wanted was for numbers to carry their units:

(camera :ortho :zoom 2 :fov 90deg :shutter 250ms :scale 50%)
; unit is a suffix glued to a number with no space
; oh! and dates and times are also token kinds: 2026-05-19 and 23:59:59.999 lex as values
; these don't get interpreted, just carried over and then the schema decides what is valid
yeah... there is a schema, which is written in SJON too, that is validated ahead of evaluation, and docs have a binary IR, so a tiny runtime can consume one without carrying a parser.

For instance, the SJON schema for the WebGPU spec was sketched from the spec API.

Sorry for the long answer, yeah, it is not Lisp, just S-expressions to leverage a small part of their amazing versatility.

Hahah thanks for noticing that, also Lisp in all caps, like the original from the 60s
hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
If TinyGo works for your codebase, and those 10KB are something you can live with, then perfect.

Two things to keep in mind here:

1. TinyGo is not Go, more Go-like or adjacent

2. 10KB still matters a lot in a lot of minimal target/usage scenarios

hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
Do not assume I haven't read.
hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
I regret not going with bash or even sh when I had the chance. Nothing beats that for ubiquity and getting shit done.

Go is behind, specifically, you have no guarantees that a given machine has Go installed, and doing stuff like gluing commands together, inspecting some files, pipe output around, or automate the boring thing in 30 seconds.

Sure Go beats bash or sh when the thing you are doing starts to become real software, but that is a problem that sits between the chair and the keyboard.

hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
the Go runtime comes along for the ride when producing a wasm file, if you are interested in "minimal" (as in small or without extra cruft) then languages that do not require such a thing might be more adequate
hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
So you are using Go with LLMs for the objective and destination of token consumption for token consumption sake?

what would be the purpose then?

hugodan··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
Who cares? Languages are tools, LLMs are tools. Use the ones more appropriate for what you are trying to do.

Is Go better than CSS if you are doing web layouts? Is it better than zig if you are outputting minimal wasm deliverables? Is it better than swift if you are doing iOS specific development? Is it better than bash for OS scripting?

Think about what you are doing and choose appropriately. This was true before LLMs.

Are you having fun? Chose LISP then
