I dislike the whole concept of Facebook but sorry, but I find this idea really counter intuitive? Creating social events online but not through a social network...
*edit, so I can provide some constructive criticism. Maybe integrate this with social networks such as Facebook or Twitter (which I guess kind of defeats your purpose of going against Facebook)?
These types of articles are nice to read but maybe not for posting onto HN because it's a little fluffy and non-technical/non-quantitative as can be seen from the critical responses.
As a side note, I personally think it's difficult (but not impossible) to use social networks as a way to determine a company's culture. Everyone should be mindful that IG/Facebook captures only the moments someone wants to share.
1) I'm not really understanding how the apps are shared? Ex. when a user scans the QR code or opens the glide app link sent to them, do the apps open in a browser from the phone? The UI shown on the website don't seem to have a URL bar or browser navigation so I'm a little confused as to what actually happens...
2) I find that one of the harder parts of developing an app is getting the App Store/Google Play Store account/license/certificates/submission process. Do you guys have plans to streamline this with tools such as Fastlane? Maybe a developer portal to easily import this to App Store Connect or Google Play Console?
Airlines have been making bank for the last few years and all they need to do to prevent pilot fatigue is reduce hours for pilots and increase the number of pilots/flight, especially for international flights.
These simple measures (albeit costly), will overall help reduce commercial flight fatalities across the globe.
*edit, tried to add a fire emoji to end of comment and didn't work but here's something: U+1F525
The script probably utilized an integration with a screen capture library. I'd imagine someone can write a script to parse html and dig out the comment, but the screen capture script was probably faster to write.
A slower method would be to copy and paste the text by hand...
IMO, it's unfair to blame it on the guy who recommended the restaurant. There are thousands of restaurants that dream to have it happen. Think of it like this, I write an app and Mark Z shares it on his twitter. Sure, the traffic can kill the app, but I have to find a way to maintain it and do my due diligence to make sure the site will run smoothly when the user base increases.
It's too bad what happened. It does appear the real problem was family issues and not having great business practice. NOT the author/article.
I want to include the fact that burgers are probably my second favorite food after a Nigiri set.
Also as a future goal, it might be possible to leverage large communities on Reddit where a lot of users want to share their knowledge?
Let's not shame people for wanting to stick with a company. Everyone has their reasons to stay whether it's money, values, working environment, co-workers or personal reasons. If you really cared, shouldn't you try to change the company from within? Isn't that the best place to start?
And also, I think he/she means if you can't get behind what Facebook is doing, maybe jump to Apple who "supposedly" have security and privacy as their top priorities and in the mean time receive a raise.
I wonder if checkout works. Can anyone confirm?
Also, where was he during the first few days of the rescue? All of a sudden this story has international attention and he steps in.
He's that kid that tried to build a crazy contraption to save the cat from the tree when all you really needed was a sturdy ladder.
