hsuresh··on Show HN: Dashku - a real-time dashboard app, built with SocketStream
I see nothing but a link to self. Did something break?
hsuresh··on AirBnb's new site design
Considering that a (considerable/significant) section of their target audience could be "on the move" and not have a great internet connection, not sure if the 3.5MB gorgeous looking site is a good idea.
hsuresh··on I want to join a Startup Chile team, help me get this noticed
You should mention why you are interested in joining a startup that is going to Chile. Are you in Chile yourself? Or is there some other reason for this.

I am not going to Startup Chile, but the question popped on my head as i read your website.

hsuresh··on Paul Graham's Letter to YC Companies
Bubble 1.0 - Just have a prototype, and money will follow you.

Bubble 2.0 - Ship a product, make sure you have enough users, and money will follow you.

Post this bubble, is it going to be: "Make profits, because that is where your money is"?

I am not implying bubble as a bad thing, fwiw.

edit: grammar

hsuresh··on Show HN: Mootu.be - a cleaner way to view YouTube videos
Looks clean. Can you add title/description of the video being played?
hsuresh··on Google Green - The Story of Send
Yup, that caught my attention too. And i think it puts things in perspective - Google search is a really really complex system. The fact that 1 year of Gmail usage roughly translates to about only 6% power usage as 100 searches is insane.
hsuresh··on Ask HN: Naming My Startup
Name is important to some extent. Ease of remembering, easy to spell and its association to your service/product/app are all some factors.

Here is how i go about finding names:

* Start with a list of nouns/names that you think your product should be called. Put it in a spreadsheet.

* Use a service like http://impossibility.org/ to find domain names that are available and related to your list.

* Keep iterating it over a week/10 day period. I am sure you will stumble upon good names.

Don't over try. Use a codeword till you find a good name. Also, ask for opinions from a couple of people.

hsuresh··on Ask HN: Questions about running a company from a cheap country
I live in India, I have a 2mbps connection at home and pay about $40/month. Not sure what lag you are referring to. I dont have any problems talking to people on skype wherever in the world they may be.
hsuresh··on Lessons Learned After Year One As a Startup Founder
Thanks for sharing your lessons. The biggest takeaway for me is this:

> Literally schedule in specific time to think & be creative– you need it.

hsuresh··on IKamasutra: Apple Hates Brunettes
As a developer, i'd really think hard about developing a native app. I know that some apps cannot go web based, but we need to push the boundaries of what is possible with mobile browsers. I can't think of any other way of keeping the mobile development open.
hsuresh··on Paths to $5M for a startup founder
A great article. I am a solo founder myself and this article has given me more confidence about doing this alone, at least for a while. I have a couple of employees on board, so work load is not a big problem. I'd still love another founder to join me though, especially someone with complementary skills. I haven't raised money yet, and would like to do a small round, so not sure how much of a challenge this is going to be, as a solo founder.
hsuresh··on Larry Page: one-year anniversary of taking over Google's CEO
Bit off topic. But i seriously don't understand the negative sentiment anything related to Google of late. It used to be Facebook a while back, and it seems to be Google's turn right now. There must be some sort of group behaviour explanation to this.
hsuresh··on Rethink your Startup Website: Make a Net, not a Funnel
>> Confused about how so many people could visit and still I was clueless about what they wanted, I logged on to the Hacker News IRC channel and asked the room "Can anybody help? I have a site I don't know what to do with."

There is a Hacker News IRC channel? Anyone know the details?

hsuresh··on RESTful thinking considered harmful
Ok, but what is RESTful thinking?

The way i think about REST is this: here is my stateful application, how can i make it available over HTTP/REST. So i start identifying resources. Most of them are easy - they map to your domains models. But some of the operations on some of the resources are quite important to my application (eg: ordering products, making a payment etc), so i consider creating separate resources for them.

It looks like you are referring to modeling your stateful application when you talk about RESTful thinking.

hsuresh··on RESTful thinking considered harmful
Yup. The author is wrong in his assumption. You can always model the "process" parts using a resource(payment resource as against pay, transaction as against credit/debit etc).
hsuresh··on Google to Sell Heads-Up Display Glasses by Year’s End
On the other hand, someone has to make a start. We might see more such products, even if it is only moderately successful.
hsuresh··on How we are using 'Hitler reacts' video to convey our startup's positioning
And calling out other businesses(FlipKart, LetsBuy etc) when promoting their own business makes this video unwatchable.
hsuresh··on Ask HN: Do startups hire 50+ year old programmers?(US)
Why should they do this in their spare time? If it is important to the business, shouldn't the employers provide time for their employees to learn new technologies?
hsuresh··on Ask HN: Your experiences building several startups at the same time
It is almost always better to work on them one after the other. I am currently bootstrapping my startup through consulting/freelancing. Even though i try to restrict my consulting work to about 20 hrs/week, there is always spillovers. But the biggest problem is that of a context-switch. It is just not easy, at least to me, to quickly switch from a consulting gig to my own startup effort. One of the 2 always suffers.
hsuresh··on Microsoft decides to automatically update Internet Explorer for everyone
Legacy applications. When you have invested on applications that sadly work only on IE6, then you have no choice but to block the updates. It would be great if windows can run different versions of IE on the same machine, or even at the same time.

hsuresh··on Ask HN: Meeting with VCs tomorrow, what tips should I know?
Not sure if you have enough time, but you may want to check this out -> http://hackersandfounders.tv/T7F/naval-ravikant-hack-your-fu... I saw this video a couple of days back and found it to be quite insightful.
hsuresh··on ECMAScript 6 looks promising

hsuresh··on Abu Dhabi Traffic Accidents Dropped 40% During the BlackBerry Outage

hsuresh··on Dizzying but invisible depth
This is similar to one of my favourite interview questions. I usually ask my candidates to explain everything that happens from the time they type an address in their browser till when the page they requested is rendered. You can find a lot about candidates with this question.
hsuresh··on Apple Reveals Siri Voice Interface: The “Intelligent Assistant”
I should probably register a site: siribloopers.com. Am sure we are gonna hear lots of stories about misadventures with Siri :)
hsuresh··on Pre-branded domain names for startups
You should seriously consider reserving handles on twitter and other services and providing it to the user of your service, else a squatter can easily register handles on these services for the domains you list on your website.

I am not too comfortable with this service though, i don't like the thought of you squatting away hundreds of good startup names. Partly because the price point of $250 sounds very expensive to me, at least as someone sitting in India.

hsuresh··on HP To Apple: You Win.
Are you serious about this? Or is this a tongue-in-cheek statement?
hsuresh··on The Secret Ingredient In Your Orange Juice
There is a fascinating documentary - Botany of Desire http://video.pbs.org/video/1283872815/. The video shows that even fruits are grown in ways so as to make them taste better, and therefore more consumption.
