it led me to edit the save files and change the hex value (i think i used norton commander) for abilities & resources
i did the same with civ1, had 65535 gold at 4000bc, stuffs like that are now easily changed with cheat codes / editor
not really programming, i know, but that started my interest
after 3 years, the depreciation rate levels off for used cars so try 2005- cars
i have renault clio but don't use it often (once every quarter) ... not because i love the car, but because my basic transportation need is better covered with motorcycle (it's super crowded here with cars)
admittedly, clio was chosen because of the F1 double crown of renault+alonzo shrug ... maybe that's a flawed logic
then 4 years in my country, i never buy one
actually over my lifetime, i never ever go to hospital and ask my insurance to pay for it (too much hassle and i hate meeting doctor)
the fud tactic used (you will pay 1 million dollar when you visit a hospital) always amuses me
maybe a better way is to take care of yourself, exercise, read health textbooks, read wikipedia on generic OTC drugs, eat real food, avoid extreme sports, don't smoke, use common sense etc
never ask an insurance company, "do i need coverage?"
man pages shine when the info is very specific (say openbsd)
first time it's better to use google (to see whether it's an issue -- where people encountered the same problem ... or non-issue -- only ME? having this problem? it could be something else)
but after facing it multiple times, man pages (and brain) are my friends
i also find that books written from author's experience superior
examples: pg's essays, htgr by felix dennis, ferris among others
actually pretty much everything else (author who sings own song, cook who eats own food, etc)
is s/he yourself?
personally, not having to deal with SQL is actually a plus
i had to use ed during installation to change the fstab (from sd0a to wd0a) of a 2.5" hdd mounted on usb
important step coz o/w rebooting from sd0a 2.5" ide put me to single user w/ read-only fs (too late for ed)
it costs less to hire a skillful (but expensive) developer on ok machine than less skillful one(s) on expensive machine(s)
the 10-100x gain myth on skill is pretty much true
do without mouse and hard-to-reach keys (F1-12, arrows, numpads)
i found ide is about using mouse and using those keys (like F5? to run) etc ... but i didn't use much ide shrug
in vim, you can take those keys plus backspace, alt and even esc (i map it to ^C because ^] hurts, not because of emacs) ... also xmodmap caps to ctrl
emacs still requires at least a meta key so that adds complexity. vim cheats by using modes :D
with fewer keys, the intensity = (strokes / #key) is high and that may lead to higher productivity
oh and of course, touch typing really helps especially the often untrained part like numbers and symbols.
i used 'typing tutor for mac' and trained streams of letters, numbers and symbols ... like 'aJ8@9)x|W,~2'
i guess not, it could be diminishing return
or even negative return (more distractions, harder to admin / sync / whatever)
despite my Cs in english, pol sci, and other humanities courses, i got in ... to make it more dramatic, i also got graduate research assistantship :D
so i guess it's only natural more spelling errors lead to more achievements ... maybe because s/he doesn't waste time being a grammar/spelling nazi
imho it's as relevant as predicting an asian engineering student success based on english SAT
--- in my case, it's fish & plant (started an aquarium ~ 3 years ago)
it reinvigorated my interests in chemistry (made my own PMDD fertilizer) ... soon i found myself browing wikipedias for KNO3, pH, nitrification, etc
it's about harmonius ecosystem ... focus on plant -> it improves water quality for fish which in turn feed the plant with waste
simplicity too (i abandon pump+filter+lighting+fert to soil+plant+sun+mulm) ... yes at the end i abandon my chemistry and my knowledge (nature always amazes me ... how little i know)
watching the fish and plant grow is like letting nature writing history for you ... unparallel to any books written by human
so i dunno about u ... maybe pick a hobby (preferrably ones that actionable, no theory -> see Feynman) and if u can make a business / startup out of it, even better
from my experiences, code-length continuum is between FP and OOP (imagine haiku vs bible)
i think the beauty of open source is you can work on what you love, even if it's not efficient
i see a lot of "make Windows looks like Mac OS X" from google or even "make Linux look like Mac OS X"
i believe I've never seen the reverse (OSX->xp or even OSX->linux)
to me linux is copying the wrong model, her role model should be osx
to me python seems emphasizing more on OO than FP; lisp is the reverse
i tried erlang, but really, my mind prefers thinking in lisp :(
do i miss a lot not learning other FPs?
