hrvstr··on Ask HN: How do designers and marketers use Command Line? AI? Technical tools?
I once created a photo mosaic animation in After Effects. To do this, I had to sort images based on their "average brightness." I then wrote a small Python script to analyze the images and organize them into subfolders.
hrvstr··on Adobe modifies hosts file to detect whether Creative Cloud is installed
For *.pkg installers there is Suspicious Package at least.

hrvstr··on Show HN: A music player built for Steam Deck with full gamepad navigation
Will this allow me to play music in the background while gaming in Chimera OS gaming mode (booted into Steam Big Picture as Desktop Environment without desktop)?
hrvstr··on Users say Adobe Creative Cloud rewrote hosts file to detect installed app
Actually not 100% correct. AFAIK there are two patches around: an "online" variant that requires a clean host file but has access to more features and the "offline" variant that uses the host file to block traffic like you described.

I redeemed JLM634N7HHE7. Looking forward to giving it a spin. Thanks!

Really nice project! I was looking for something like this just a couple of days ago.

> designed to run on free/hobby server tiers.(Koyeb/Render etc)

Can you elaborate on this part? Koyeb doesn't seem to have a free tier. I got the docker container running on Render but all configuration is gone after a restart.

hrvstr··on Show HN: Vibe coded iOS workout app with Apple Watch support
Hey I was looking for something like this and would give it a spin and a review :)
hrvstr··on Homebrew 5.0.0
I was planning to keep using my Intel Mac for a few more years, so this is a bit disappointing. The note about “macOS Intel x86_64 will move to Tier 3, dropping CI support, and no additional bottles will be built” sounds like Homebrew is basically ending active support soon. Does anyone know what the timescale is for deprecating macOS Intel entirely? It feels like devs are moving on from Intel Macs even faster than Apple itself. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what “Tier 3” actually means here, but if no bottles are built anymore, that’s going to make installs a lot less convenient.

Found a link, and tier 3 sounds brutal. Time to look for alternatives... :(

What is the benefit of using this compared to the integrated git panel?
hrvstr··on Keep Using Your Intel Mac in 2025?
Still rocking a Skylake Hackintosh from 2016 that can handle any type of work that I need (motion design, audio production, web dev etc.).
hrvstr··on Aerospace: An I3 Like Tiling Window Manager for macOS
I've been meaning to give this WM a try, but never got around to it. Has anybody switched from yabai? I've been using it since the chunkwm days so it became second nature to me on macOS. It would be interesting to see how both of them compare and what the benefits and drawbacks are.
hrvstr··on A Dark Mode PDF Reader Competing with Adobe
I think some of the UI elements are not placed intuitively. The close file button should be on the top right side and the button to collapse the sidebar should be inside the sidebar (top left) and not next to it (when the sidebar is displayed of course).
hrvstr··on Rift – A Window Manager for macOS
Nice one, how does it compare to yabai? Does it handle tabs in Finder well?
hrvstr··on uBlock Origin Lite for Safari Being Canceled
> Some people are reading more than there is to my statement above. This is a development discussion within dev team, "cancelling a build" is not "cancelling support for a platform".
hrvstr··on Easily run Windows software on Linux with Bottles
Interesting. The UI looks way better than Lutris and Heroic Launcher. Anyone tried all three of them and went with Bottles? I first tried Lutris and then switched to Heroic, but I am not too keen about Electron apps, although Heroic works quite well.
hrvstr··on Ask HN: How do you bypass paywalls on Safari?
I am using this extension. I disabled the toolbar icon and run it from the right click context menu.

hrvstr··on iOS 26 Supports iPhone 11 and Newer
Really? I am using an 11 Pro as well and barely notice any lag if at all any. I am skeptical how well it will run iOS 26 too, though.
hrvstr··on Valla: A modern ePub reader for macOS
Looks really promising. Any thoughts on how the pricing will work?

I like to use Fedora with Gnome on mine.

hrvstr··on Apple Confirms Zero-Day Attacks Hitting macOS Systems
Hmm, may I ask what version you are running now? I am on Sonoma too and don't see any updates. The apple support page lists macOS Sonoma 14.7.1 as the most recent version released on 28 Oct 2024. https://support.apple.com/en-us/100100
hrvstr··on Twitter for Mac appears to be dead as App Store listing disappears
Sad day :( Search was broken for a long time anyway so I had to stop using it.
hrvstr··on Unread: An RSS Reader – Now Available for Mac
Congrats on the app launch. As a heavy RSS user myself I'll give this a spin. I am coming from NetNewsWire.

First impression after adding my OPML: - I don't think the main feature "Beautiful typography" is true nor do I want it. Please give us the option to use the default macOS system font. The one currently in use makes it look like a Microsoft app (segeo ui or something).

- Please add a default macOS theme as well. The app should have a standard window background with an accent color set in system preferences. Of course, it should also respect day/night mode. This will be the main reason why I can not switch. I don't like any of the available themes.

- "Handling of summary-only feeds" - I can't find this in the interface at all. How does it work and where do I activate it?

- I think the padding above the article looks a bit off.

I will update my feedback when I have some time to use it more.

hrvstr··on I built Webfoundry, a precision visual Tailwind CSS editor
Maybe add a note that the site doesn't work in Safari. I tried clicking on some random icons and didn't understand what was going on. In Firefox the laylout looks correct but I don't have a clue how to use it.

I am using MJML and it’s relatively easy to build your described layout with snippets from the docs.

hrvstr··on Ask HN: Headless CMS Recommendation?
What is the cheapest setup to deploy Payload CMS? Only used hosted headless CMS so far (Netlify CMS, Forestry & FrontAid CMS). Do I need a VPS at Hetzner? I guess Netlify will not work because I can't have Mongo DB there?
hrvstr··on Ask HN: Best ways to extract clips from streaming services
I am not sure about the DRM protection from services like Netflix etc. The easiest way would be to somehow obtain a video file and use a tool like losslesscut to extract the clips without re-encoding. 0 quality loss this way.
