hrrsn··on CrashPlan Australia been down for 5 days and counting
Time to move.
hrrsn··on How ACH works: A developer perspective (2014)
Here in New Zealand, most inter-bank transactions are cleared hourly during business hours. It's incredibly nice.
hrrsn··on Deep Learning for Siri’s Voice
I haven't needed to use Siri on my Mac, but presumably that's using the same stuff as iOS?
hrrsn··on Blockchain could fix a key problem in China’s food industry
How can they attach an ID to a specific food and ensure that it hasn't been duplicated etc? With crypto, it's easy, but if they're just attaching a label to a box it seems ripe for fraud.
hrrsn··on DJI adds an offline mode to its drones for clients with ‘sensitive operations’
Not in the size department though. The Karma is leagues larger.
hrrsn··on Cracking the code behind Apple’s App Store promo card design
No, it's only activated when you go to redeem a card in the iTunes/App Stores.
hrrsn··on Tim Berners-Lee Officially Supports DRM in HTML
Not trolling, just genuinely curious: what about this is so awful then? This sounds like a step in the right direction?
hrrsn··on Elon Musk confirms that he just bought back X.com, the domain he owned in 1999
I think the poster was questioning why they weren't running a more recent version of Exchange such as 2013/2016
hrrsn··on Broadpwn Bug Affects Millions of Android and iOS Devices
Samsung are pretty notorious for this. Most of their phones come in many different models for different markets, from a quick google, both the S7 and S7 Edge have 14 different variants each. Some have different CPUs, many have differing internal parts, etc. It's a minefield.

hrrsn··on Area 120 – A workshop for Google's experimental products
>Let's say the first product announced by Area 120 turns out to be a great new chat app.

That's exactly what Google has been missing all these years: a chat app.

hrrsn··on From Facebook account takeover to an empty bank account
I've noticed my two banks vary wildly in how they respond to this (I'm non-US). Once I was notified that they were replacing my card due to suspected fraud only after I called them to ask why my card was being declined everywhere. The other bank disabled my card when placing an order on Doordash while in LA and I got an SMS, a notification from Apple Pay and a phone call almost immediately.
hrrsn··on New Surface Pro
I believe after the third repair, they'll replace the entire machine with a new model.
hrrsn··on International Travel Guide for Basecamp employees
I went through LAX for the first time in December 2016. The immigration line was long and took about an hour to get through but other than that it was pretty painless.
hrrsn··on AMD's revenue rises 18%, but margin forecast disappoints
>How they justify shipping closed source software that can't be disabled, has full access to my system, and can be remotely controlled is beyond me; but I'm not okay with it.

Intel isn't any better.

hrrsn··on Apple AirPods satisfaction at a remarkable 98% for customers
I love mine too. I'm not sure if I'd say favourite product in years but that's because they're so frictionless that I don't have to think about them. I just put them in my ears and rarely ever have to worry about charging them or pairing them.
hrrsn··on Ask HN: Can I get in trouble for crawling using the Googlebot user agent?
.googleusercontent.com
hrrsn··on Show HN: 'Hack' the user cursor
The demo works fine on Safari 10 for me.
hrrsn··on Google turns off ads for blog after writing about Russia's anti-gay policies
That'd what I'd say - considering how pro-LGBT Google are, there's definitely more than the author is letting on here
hrrsn··on Airlines Make More Money Selling Miles Than Seats
ANZ offer a cash back Visa of up to 1% here in NZ, but at that rate I'll stick to my airpoints.
hrrsn··on About the security content of iOS 10.3
Are they still being updated by their manufacturers? The devices still work but support has been ceased.
hrrsn··on Most Electronics Being Banned on Certain US-Bound Flights
I'm guessing you forgot the /s tag.
hrrsn··on Virtual machine escape fetches $100k at Pwn2Own hacking contest
That's what I was thinking. $100k for this sounds low.
hrrsn··on Nintendo to Double Production of Switch Console
https://m.facebook.com/l.php?u=https://www.wsj.com/articles/...

Not quite what you're after, but I'm unsure about how cool it is to copy & paste the entire article here. FAQ is unclear. Any guidance?

hrrsn··on Nintendo to Double Production of Switch Console
The consumer value proposition is greater if people can watch media on the same device.
hrrsn··on PegaSwitch: Exploit Toolkit for Nintendo Switch
The Webkit bug used is well known and not new https://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2016-4657

It's really Nintendo's fault for shipping an insecure version of Webkit.

hrrsn··on “I was just asked to balance a Binary Search Tree by JFK's airport immigration”
Travelling to Australia as a New Zealand citizen is about as easy as it gets. My last flight from Sydney to Auckland I was at home 45 minutes after the plane landed.
hrrsn··on DDoSCoin: Cryptocurrency with a Malicious Proof-Of-Work [pdf]
LaTeX - https://www.latex-project.org
hrrsn··on Wine Running on Windows with the Windows Subsystem for Linux
Looks like there's a few other posts on Cloud on that blog

hrrsn··on Snap Inc. S-1
I would think their bandwidth costs are astronomical. Since 19/3/16 Snapchat has used 14.8GB of mobile data on my iPhone alone - not including WiFi.
hrrsn··on 'Check Your Backups Work' Day
He was a few hours ago ;)
