hoytschermerhrn··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
How do you implement auto-filters?
hoytschermerhrn··on Why No One Wants to Date Tech Bros
You're getting downvoted because of the asumption that left-leaning women are not career-oriented.

Everyone has skills & interests (tech, building things, sales, marketing, etc.) and everyone needs to survive (rent, mortage, food, etc.)..so why in the world would you assume that these things are only the domain of the right?

hoytschermerhrn··on Israeli ministers announce plans for illegal settlements in Gaza and West Bank
How many civilians were taken hostage and how many civilians were killed in retaliation? That ratio may offer clues to shifting global sentiments.
hoytschermerhrn··on The US grocery slowdown is real
I really can’t imagine that matters at the scale of data we’re talking about here. If you can’t afford groceries, you certainly can’t afford bleeding-edge vanity drugs.
hoytschermerhrn··on Identity verification on Claude
I’m a US citizen and absolutely will not be uploading additional information just to use a company’s models. This effectively kills my usage of anthropic for anything beyond their 4.8 models.
hoytschermerhrn··on Ferrari Luce
Isn’t this quite literally how a microphone works?
hoytschermerhrn··on Data Centers Now Consume 6% of US Electricity–and the Backlash Has Begun
Even assuming this was true at all, something happening 30 years ago is not evidence that the exact same thing is happening today.
hoytschermerhrn··on Apple's accidental moat: How the "AI Loser" may end up winning
Yes
hoytschermerhrn··on Switch to Claude without starting over
I'm sure this was a hastily put-together response to the growing calls to delete ChatGPT.
hoytschermerhrn··on Palantir's secret weapon isn't AI – it's Ontology. An open-source deep dive
To be fair, I had the same interpretation as OP here. One cannot have an earnest discussion of Palintir without at least implicitly including the privacy & military industrial complex associations of this company.
hoytschermerhrn··on John Simpson: 'I've reported on 40 wars but I've never seen a year like 2025'
OP is specifically talking about seeing unfiltered, on-the-ground footage of what’s happening as it’s happening, directly by the people being impacted. This is very different than prior conflicts which have been ostensibly filtered for various reasons.
hoytschermerhrn··on Flock's gunshot detection microphones will start listening for human voices
This country literally had a civil war to prevent rich capitalists from owning other human beings. America’s “values” have always been rooted in profit-driven utilitarianism.
hoytschermerhrn··on U.S. military was caught off guard by Israeli strike on Qatar
Are you a bot? Why respond to two comments with nearly exactly the same introductory paragraphs…
hoytschermerhrn··on Tesla changes meaning of 'Full Self-Driving', gives up on promise of autonomy
The new electric Volvos have LIDAR, proving that the technology has (at least now) approached mass-market feasibility.
hoytschermerhrn··on Kodak has no plans to cease, go out of business, or file for bankruptcy
Yes, exactly. Apparently the chemistry for film emulsion is very similar to what’s needed for skin applications. I think a lot of companies would not be so forward-thinking, so I give them a lot of credit here.
hoytschermerhrn··on Kodak has no plans to cease, go out of business, or file for bankruptcy
Somewhat surprisingly, they’ve also successfully diversified into high-end skincare, applying their chemical expertise to moisturizer forumulations and whatnot.
hoytschermerhrn··on More honey bees dying, even as antibiotic use halves
I don’t believe we have ticks in the same way that the east coast has lime disease-carrying ticks though?
hoytschermerhrn··on Old Growth Wood
As an old-home owner and a hobbyist woodworker, I can confirm that it’s not user error — old-growth timber really is that dense. Even my impact driver struggles to drill simple holes sometimes.
hoytschermerhrn··on Gemini 2.0 is now available to everyone
- Generally Available? Available?? Simply showing a checkmark???

- In Experimental? Coming soon??

Make it make sense.

hoytschermerhrn··on Notes on Vision Pro
You’ve posted a 3-paragraph rant on a baseless assumption for a product which hasn’t been released yet. Let’s all withhold judgement until we have more information about how this truly works.
hoytschermerhrn··on Google Bard waitlist
V4 is baked into Bing Chat. I believe paid OpenAI accounts also have access.
hoytschermerhrn··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
It’s simply unrealistic for businesses to not exceed the $250k insurance limit.
hoytschermerhrn··on Tesla Terminated Dozens in Response to New Union Campaign, Complaint Alleges
He owns the company, no?
hoytschermerhrn··on FTX faces potential hack, sees mysterious outflows totaling more than $600M
Source on this tornado comment? This entire story is just so wild that it’s hard to keep up.
hoytschermerhrn··on Why software engineers like woodworking
Where do you get your epoxy? I hate the 24 hour stuff.
hoytschermerhrn··on USB Type-C finally shows up in power tools
Why does the orientation matter if the end result is the same? My point is your suggestion is no better than OPs, so who cares which way the brick points?
hoytschermerhrn··on Dyson air purifier outperformed by cheap DIY box fan filter in Marketplace test
Dyson, like Apple, doesn’t make products for nerds like us who are willing to go through that level of effort. Their prices are high because their products are simple and “just work” without much fiddling.
hoytschermerhrn··on Our Year in Review: How we’ve kept Firefox working for you in 2020
Certs can be purchased for the price of a coffee or two and are generally trivia to implement — there’s really no reason NOT to upgrade these days, no matter how benign the content. And I say that as someone who still has a non-HTTPS portfolio site :)
hoytschermerhrn··on The Internet Is for Porn
The title is a nod to this famous Broadway play: https://youtu.be/zBDCq6Q8k2E
hoytschermerhrn··on Twitter limits users interacting with Trump's tweets about 'stolen' election
I’m curious what cities have been literally burned to the ground?
