hotfixguru··on The complete guide to protecting your APIs with OAuth2
I have also made an attempt at writing an article for developers that want to implement Oauth2.[1] Not a complete guide, but a short(8min) read that aims to get you started.

If anyone makes this work with heroku Postgres, let me know!

I started a container and connected it, but instantly got an email from heroku telling me i had 19500 of my 10000 rows, and 215 tables. Not really any hobby-project viable priced hosting options in their documentation.

Does this autocomplete experience translate into IDEs when using client libraries, such as the Python library?
hotfixguru··on Ask HN: Good Python projects to read for modern Python?
I think, in general, most FastAPI and Pydantic related libraries are heavily typed, use poetry, GitHub pipelines, black, isort, flake8 etc. so if you want to look at the ecosystem around a package I’ll recommend a few here, that has a smaller scope than the huge libraries Pydantic/FastAPI are. All packages listed below has all these things.

FastAPI-Azure-Auth [0] is a library to do authentication and authorization through Azure AD using tokens.

ASGI—Correlation-ID[1] is a package that utilizes contextvars to store information through the asyncio stack, in order to attach correlation/request ID to every log message from a request. Django-GUID [2] does the same for both sync and async Django.

Pydantic-factories [3] is an awesome library to mock data for your pydantic models.

NetBox[0] is a large project that does this.

I agree with you. Most my packages are around ~100 stars, and I'm met with a lot of respect and appreciation.[1][2]

My library for Correlation-IDs in Django[3] got implemented by AWX, which also was a nice experience![4]

Maybe it is the Django/FastAPI community, but "you'll get a load of entitled users" is straight up not true in my experience.

hotfixguru··on Why Network Engineers Should Learn Go
Enjoyed your talk a lot! Python is definitely the industry leader within network automation, and I agree the ecosystem of modules are a reason for that. I had the talk on “how we provide better customer insights with tenant visualization using ACI”, and I spend most my days writing network automation code in Python. It is extremely rare I actually use tools like nornir or scrapli these days. Most things I need to automate, can be done through a north bound API provided by Cisco software, such as DNAC or ACI. Same goes for IPAM, integrations with Azure etc. I write Ansible modules which AWX takes care off, and I use the AWX APIs to get job data.

In other words, I think we pretty much could write any language and it would solve most use cases.

hotfixguru··on Replacing Docker with Podman on macOS
Podman-compose has a history of being buggy, don’t support running one service at the time, command execution in the container etc. (I’ve been stuck with it for a long time) It also don’t behave exactly like docker-compose, which makes it annoying when the entire team don’t use the same stack.

With that said, podman now support docker-compose. Seems to still require to be privileged for volume mounting on Linux, but haven’t looked too much into it.

hotfixguru··on Show HN: Implement Azure AD auth for your FastAPI
No plans for other languages at the moment. I am currently writing a blog post on how it works, which will be a good starting for those interested in working with OpenID Connect.
hotfixguru··on Show HN: Implement Azure AD auth for your FastAPI
Hi!

This library allow you to easily implement Azure AD auth to your FastAPI APIs. It also implements authentication in the OpenAPI documentation. The documentation[1] contains a full tutorial on how to configure Azure AD and FastAPI for both single- and multi-tenant applications. It includes examples on how to lock down your APIs to certain scopes, tenants, roles etc.
