hotcoffeebear··on How Spotify's podcast bet went wrong
Better like this.
hotcoffeebear··on How Spotify's podcast bet went wrong
Yeah, podcast would be better with audio books than music.
hotcoffeebear··on Tell HN: Firefox Is an awesome browser right now
I mainly use firefox as well, but as lots of the people I have other browsers installed just in case. I like it, it’s fast and reliable for me, and I don’t want only-chrome future.

I’ve kinda browser wrapper thing with a chrome based browser for few google apps, like Keep, Gmail and Calendar on Windows.

And how much is it in your local currency that you’re getting paid for.
hotcoffeebear··on The ingenious design of the aluminum beverage can (2015) [video]
I saw somebody dissolved a soda can in acid, it remained in a plastic bag (which is probably plastic lining inside). But %70 rate seem so low, how does glass fare?
hotcoffeebear··on I almost bought a scanner
Here is one from Pentax https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2014/04/21/pentax-film...
hotcoffeebear··on I almost bought a scanner
My EPSON flatbed film scanner is bad, especially for 120mm film, but… that was cheaper than 10 rolls of film scanned in low res for me.
hotcoffeebear··on I almost bought a scanner
That’s sounds even more devilish than keeping an obsolete app closed source.
hotcoffeebear··on I almost bought a scanner
Last sentence hit close to home. It’s valid for me about anything.
hotcoffeebear··on Bring Back Personal Blogging
I have tried gohugo + gitlab, just because portability of md files. I would pay small fee for a service which provide a more user friendly IU*. Small fee because i am writing very rarely, and in this subscription ridden world, i am already enough recurring payments.

Forestry.io was confusing because i am dumb.

hotcoffeebear··on Tesla used car price bubble pops, weighs on new car demand
How many decades ago are we talking about?
hotcoffeebear··on How the Steam Deck breathes life into underrated old games
Thanks to the idea that i’ll own a steamdeck at some point, i am buying hugely discounted old games. Till now i was playing some vendor-locked free games or simulations. Idea of having all my steam library in the future is exciting. Hope Valve won’t go down anytime soon.
hotcoffeebear··on Barnes and Noble's surprising turnaround
Yeah. That’s the reason for DJs there is a license for “working copy” (bastard SIAE), especially if you’re downloading digitally and copying it to usb disk. If you are playing vinyl, they can suck my tonearm!
hotcoffeebear··on Barnes and Noble's surprising turnaround
Since I was moving between cities and countries, i started to give away books that i’ve read as a present to my friends. Only fictions though, that I usually never read them again. It’s also nice way to have someone to discuss and talk about them.
hotcoffeebear··on Pixelmator Pro gets a magical, AI‑powered Deband feature
It’s useless to upgrade with every new version (if you are not upgrading your camera); unfortunately all the companies slapping minor upgrades and making it a number release.

I suggest Lightroom 6 for those who has older camera, otherwise discounted standalone version of Capture One (often goes in discounts). DAM feature is great in Lightroom; but this can be resolved by using some other app Can not wait to ditch Lightroom though. C1 is great for tethered sessions.

Rethinking DAM, i think i need just a good filemanager, i am already organizing my folder by myself.

If you are working in professional environment as a photographer, Capture One is a quite gold standard for photographer. In anycase, retouching is done in Photoshop.

hotcoffeebear··on AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT Linux Support and Performance Review
This guy is making a great work.
hotcoffeebear··on Over a decade of anti-tracking work at Mozilla
I don’t think not being default privacy-first is a bad thing for Firefox. Also, I don’t see any privacy related advertising on mozilla.org landing page.
hotcoffeebear··on Korg makes music with Raspberry Pi
They are cannibalizing on 303-808-909. If they only stop with that green leds.
hotcoffeebear··on Nigeria bans ATM cash withdrawals over $225 a week to force use of CBDC
They will probably push harder to make difficult/ illegal using decentralized cryptocurrencies.

They will thank to all the opensource projects that helped to mature CBDC, and kick them out.

hotcoffeebear··on Nigeria bans ATM cash withdrawals over $225 a week to force use of CBDC
“Customers should be encouraged to use alternative channels (Internet banking, mobile banking apps, USSD, cards/POS, eNaira, etc.) to conduct their banking transactions.”

Yes, i’m serious. I don’t see anything directed to use strictly CBDC here. They seem like to tackle tax evasion for business and individuals (read it like: traceable) In many countries there are limits on what you can do with cash already.

hotcoffeebear··on Nigeria bans ATM cash withdrawals over $225 a week to force use of CBDC
Article’s title is clickbait; It’s an anti money laundering measure in general not directly to push CBDC.
hotcoffeebear··on The entire crypto ecosystem is a ponzi
Capitalism looks bad on paper and we are having hellish landscape in it and pretend it’s working.

Cryptocurrencies current landscape is just same as the current financial system indeed. Cypherpunk ideals are long gone.

hotcoffeebear··on TomTom’s new mapping platform and ecosystem
Tom Tom used to charge for map updates, which became a no-go for many. The same thing thing with built-in ones. Toyota asked 60 euro for the map updates and unfortunately no android/ios auto.. i am going between google maps / apple maps. I find routes better in google maps but i love apple maps voice indications better. I still have also a free lifetime update tomtom but it very slow to add destination etc.
