And reading is also an "action"? So gating actions means gating read as well?

Yeah true, let me make it something more expensive
> So stop blaming your customers

I would assume contactless payments are easier to surveil compared to paper tickets, similar to cash vs credit card payments.
Nerding out on a wide range of topics :)
I wasn't, but it's not that hard to integrate a new TTS service. You can copy e.g. AzureService and adapt it to work with AWS:

> How do you approach aligning the words with animations? Is it possible to align it for a specific word?
Indeed, the feature is called "bookmarks". You can see a demo here:

> Did you already describe it somewhere?
I did not do a detailed write-up yet, but you can search the repo for "word_boundaries" and "TimeInterpolator". Services like Azure return timestamps for the beginning of each word, and for those that don't return, I integrated Whisper to generate them from the audio. Then, it's a matter of mapping the string indices to audio time via some sort of interpolation (I used linear).
Manim is the math animation library created by the awesome math YouTuber 3blue1brown. This is about Manim Voiceover, a plugin for Manim that provides an API for adding voiceovers to videos. My goal is to create efficient text2video pipelines and make it possible to automatically generate beautiful explainer videos from any educational text on the web.
This is kind of an announcement post. You can check out the documentation itself here: https://voiceover.manim.community/en/stable/

A perfectionist engineer optimizes their code to represent reality perfectly and wastes a lot of time along the way. Their objective function is the discrepancy between the code and reality, and they try to minimize that.
You can offer alternative objective functions:
- Minimize time to implement a requested feature
- Maximize survivability of the company
A good engineer is one that finds the right trade-off between "the right thing" which might be deadly for the company and "the worse thing" which enables the company to develop features fast and remain competitive.
At least, these are the arguments I use on myself to prevent myself from overengineering.
Some real 1984 type shit
The ones I unfollow are generally shills, people who make absolute statements, demagogues that heavily depend on rhetoric instead of substance. Unfortunately, Twitter's format pushes people into this behavior too. In that case, I block, in order not to become a conduit for these people's toxic messages. I block out of responsibility for my own and my followers' sanity.
> I feel like many, many problems could be solved if more people remembered that. If nothing else, it could reduce polarization.
IMO the platform design and parameters cause this polarization. It's not enough to educate people outside the platform, when the platform is a hotbed of viral messages, and the dominant strategy is to be an "asshole", according to the etiquette of the outside world. On the platform, however, it is what makes your account successful.
One idea is to define strict rules of digital etiquette. Kids could be taught these starting at a young age. You could also enforce them algorithmically on the platform.
