hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
I read documents in the outline format all the time. This is because I read legal documents, and those are in that format. I'll contact you with my email address.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
You can do this it's always /feeds. I suppose if someone really wanted to change that, they probably could. I used to use the hosted bersion, and it was /feeds there too. Although I have to point out that unless you have access to the instance, you probably won't be able to get to that page without signing in anyway. Unless someone decided to make the entire thing public, for some reason. You can do this with tweets even, you just have to have the URL of the tweet.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
So that's what I do I created a bookmark from the main page of my Miniflux instance, and then put /feeds on the end. I also have one for the new subscriptions page. Since it's a separate page, linked from the feeds list, I bookmarked it too.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
I'm totally blind, so I use a screen reader. I find that a lot of extensions that use the browser view port just don't work for me. I don't have a directory set up yet. I do have this: https://hopesnotes.net
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
Thanks your's is epic too!! I can't use RSS browser extensions for accessibility purposes. Therefore, i use Miniflux, https://miniflux.app.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: I made a user script to make YouTube dislike count back
well I'll install it and see how long it lasts lol.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Relative Bookmarks Browser Extension
You can do this with URLs. For instance, I have just the feeds page of my RSS reader bookmarked.
hopesthoughts··on Show HN: Get custom email digests of HN, Reddit, and RSS feeds
Can this do alerts? Like as in along with whatever digest I have, I set up keywords.
hopesthoughts··on Chrome “Following” Feature (RSS)
Google will kill this in about a year, if that. They'll realize they actually don't want anything to do with RSS again.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
This is one of my big problems with WP, and I've been using it for like 16 years now. Most themes don't support timestamps. In fact, I'm not even sure I've ever used one.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
I do this myself, but I have one person who insists on leaving messages if she can't talk to me right that second.
hopesthoughts··on Facebook is other people
Or actually, we hate it for all the algorithm tweaks. It just keeps making it worse and worse until I'm just like OK, I give up.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
I wish web rings were more of a thing. I mean sure they exist, but they aren't universally used like they were 20 years ago.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
That's putting too much in Twitter. What if it disappears one day?
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
Sure they can, well they can have a link that brings up the feed anyway. What the browser does with it is a different story, and that depends on whether RSS preview extensions are installed. Copying and pasting that URL wherever it needs to go isn't all that complicated.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
RSS for everything would be epic!!
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
Can I dump my OPML into this, and you recommend me feeds based on what I'm already subscribed to?
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
I've been personal blogging since 2003, and I still do so, although a lot shorter form these days. Not everyone blogs just for SEO purposes, I couldn't care any less about SEO. In fact, I don't even pay attention to analytics.
hopesthoughts··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
OK well that was 2020. Maybe fast forward to 2021, and blogs are here again. Or still here, I guess that depends on how you see things. To me blogging never died, but then again I don't go around randomly surfing blogger either. You're likely to run into spam that way.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
This is something epic! It would be nice if I could filter out images though, like I just want the links from my timeline.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
I mainly subscribe to sites that don't have RSS via Twitter. Or sites that the generator couldn't create a feed from.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
You mean you use Miniflux for that? which I do as well.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
I use the RSS feed as a link stream anyway. I just open the links and I'm at the main site. If I want to post a comment, and nothing else stops me like CAPTCHA I'll do it.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
I think it's been on an upswing for about a couple years now.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
Now I use rss.app for that.
hopesthoughts··on Using RSS to replace social media
I have a whole bunch of Subreddits in my RSS reader.
hopesthoughts··on Ask HN: Can you be openly politically right-leaning in tech in North America?
As far as I know state IDs are free. Well at least here they are anyway. They aren't drivers licenses though, you definitely can't drive with one. You did have to go wait at the DMV, that was before Covid. I would hope they would've modernized the process now.
hopesthoughts··on Built to Last – RSS, HTTP (2015)
Yeah me too! I have my own instance. Well I have a service that set it up for me.
hopesthoughts··on Built to Last – RSS, HTTP (2015)
Miniflux is good, it's what I use. It isn't desktop based though, and it needs a server install.
hopesthoughts··on Built to Last – RSS, HTTP (2015)
Chrome doesn't actually support RSS anyway. There are extensions for it, but it doesn't actually support it.
