I think the author is completely wrong on the premise that more encryption has meant less privacy. People are using more encryption because we already had no or little privacy. It hasn't gotten worse, it was already this bad.
He is right on one count though, this isn't a technical problem and it cannot be solved through a purely technical solution.
Tipping is a barbaric practice. If drivers aren't making enough they should be advocating for higher wages instead of complaining that Uber doesn't make it easy enough for them to take bribes.
More than moderation, I think it's just an artifact of their ranking system. It basically guarantees that the only stuff on the front page or top of large reddits is going to be stuff that's shallow and easy (not to mention quick) to consume.
This title is incredibly misleading. All the Obama administration is doing is providing a streamlined process to people who are already eligible to have their debt forgiven.
For the people moaning about "wealth redistribution" or wasting taxpayer money: These are people who are already unable to repay their loans. If anything this will save money since it will cut down the overhead from the government garnishing social security checks to repay its self (which would be laughable if it wasn't happening to real people).
Ctrl+Key shortcuts aren't going to work in bash (at least not without breaking other important stuff) so I'm hoping they decide to make quickedit mode more usable someday.
Unfortunately I still think this is going to be kind of a shitshow as long as they keep the black box nature of conhost. The terminal apps OSX and most linux distros ship with are fairly bare-bones too and I doubt reprogrammable 256-color mode is on microsoft's roadmap.
Is this still going to be using the absolutely dreadfull conhost? Because that's the biggest shortcoming windows currently has with its interactive command line tools, cmd.exe and powershell are both usable, not great (okay, pretty bad honestly, but usable) when you don't consider the shitty terminal they force you into using.
Cool resume, I thought the part where it loads super compressed low detail images for every card in the app demonstration and then loads the full detail image when you actually show that tab was a clever way to make the ui more responsive without adding a ton of page load time.
Does this mean Al Jazeera English will be viewable online again in the US? I never watched AJA because I don't particularly want to watch US-Focused news and I have never had and will never have a cable subscription.
Filtering options would be nice but the lack of algorithms deciding what to show me is exactly why I use twitter over facebook and I already hate their occasional recommended tweets.
Increasing the limit beyond the current arbitrary 140 character limit is good, but 10000 characters is a bit much. I'd rather see a small increase (maybe 160, 200?) and removing links and @'s from the count.
I agree with you on the jail comments not being appropriate but doing something through proxy doesn't make you less culpable. drone pilots still get ptsd (the ones with a conscience at least). Shkreli isn't a good guy on the wrong path, he's an actual psychopath and while I honestly don't think any non-violent criminals "deserve" the hell that is US prison, if it keeps him from exploiting and harming more people it's a net gain for society and that's what's important.
While npm and semver are far from perfect, I've personally found them to make dependency management a lot less of a headache in node than, for example, python which is an absolute nightmare to deal with. You still have to make sure you're using fairly stable, well written packages by people who actually understand semver and best practices but the same applies everywhere and I've found the node community's to this kind of detail better than most other ecosystems.
Ad blocking isn't just about improving "user experience." Current ad providers are so widely negligent and irresponsible with the content they allow on their networks that they are a tremendous security risk these days. It takes a truly incredible amount of hypocrisy or ignorance to rely on a known malware vector for your income and then accuse people of being "unethical" for protecting themselves.
Seems more like an idiot test to me. If someone legitimately finds something this basic confusing they are going to constantly be running into problems and aren't suited for a programming job.
I strongly disagree with this. Being able to do a very simple task like increment or decrement a number inline is useful and reduces clutter and I've always found the idea that the operator complicates things ridiculous. The way they work has always been obvious to me since I first learned to program in PHP as a tween.
Well there's always antidepressants and stimulants to help with that. In all seriousness, don't become a drug addict but if you're really worried about that there's a decent amount of research going on into improving brain plasticity so i wouldn't be surprised if there are drug treatments to "de-age" your brain in the near future.
That said, most of the "critical periods" for learning are over by the time you hit puberty and the ability to learn advanced knowledge, like the kind taught in college, doesn't decline that much with age so I wouldn't worry about it.
I like what I've seen of ansible but a lot of their modules are a complete mess. I've run into problems with both their AWS and Docker modules and ended up resorting to a series of tasks running shell commands because it was more reliable and didn't require me to install a specific version of some python library on every single machine.
