“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.” --C.S. Lewis

There aren't going to be fewer people as a result of this, there are just going to be fewer South Koreans in South Korea. When developed nations pursue non-procreative social policies and lose their demographics, they get internally replaced from undeveloped nations. The global population continues to grow.

Put them in jail. There's no reason the general public should have to deal with them anywhere, rich or poor. The fact that we do is a policy decision.

Not that bad? Hate it less? What an exciting pitch for the new nuisance in your neighborhood.

I'm not familiar with that area but I can infer that it must be pretty miserable for people who care about their surroundings, respect public spaces, and work hard to maintain a high standard in the environments they occupy. More power to them.

homonculus1··on How I survived a year in ‘the hole’ without losing my mind
Theft isn't a mere nuisance, it's an attack on one of the fundamental buttresses against chaos and violence.

The cost of living in a low-trust environment is orders of magnitude greater than the value of the items stolen. Severe penalties for persistent defection against society are absolutely warranted.

A transparent shakedown. I and those like me will continue to exercise our rights and pursue our own interests in spite of these threats of coordinated harassment.

By the way, your cries of being perpetually marginalized ring hollow, when in the very same sentence you boast of your ability to silence and damage those whom you hate.

homonculus1··on Apparently you cannot have the Kanye interview on Google Drive now
Seen by who? This angle is disingenuous, because no third party is going to single out this file being on Google Drive and punish Google for not censoring it.

Admit it, this is 100% autonomous action on the part of Google to suppress ideas and opinions they disapprove of. There is zero external pressure or risk. The excuse of some nebulous toxic miasma is nothing but a fig leaf for exercising political power.

homonculus1··on The smash and grab of Kroger-Albertsons
It's incoherent to use the example of low service density as a justification to criticize a grocer for taking higher profits. You can't pursue both sides of a tradeoff simultaneously.

The more money there is to be made in the grocery sector, the more grocers there will be to compete for it, located in the places where the money flows. Likewise the leaner they have to operate, the more they'll shut down in marginal territory that can't support their business, and the more areas will go without convenient access.

If selling groceries in low-access areas for low profits is indicated by the necessity of food, then nobody is stopping you from doing it; but as the grandparent comment hinted, if you find your niche in high-margin software instead then you're following the money, just like grocers do.

I'm sure you'll be eager to consider that the reverse is also true, except in that case it's the majority of the pool getting aliened by open favoritism toward ethnic minorities and people with bizarre sexual proclivities. If the outcomes of explicit neutrality aren't good enough for you then you'd better start thinking up a new pretense, because people can see through it quite easily and they aren't going to put up with it forever.

Chicken/egg. Populations that share poverty traits practice collectivism to survive. But collectivism is a local maximum that prevents stronger traits from capturing benefit, and thus inhibits them from taking hold.

In the long run, non-collectivist populations develop an advantage through hard times and environments. Collectivist populations subsist, and nothing more.
