If we think of websites not related to work. How many of those would the average person view per day? 5-20 ?
If you have a bunch of companies trying to keep their shit together while barely able to make their product and then someone kills himself simple because the situation is no longer worth living - then it is a sad thing.
If the product is one of the most successful things in human history the suicide is a design goal.
If we don't stand up to it and at least voice our objection we will all be treated like that eventually - regardless of corporate success or personal productivity.
The only other role is that of the psychopath pressuring those who do the work in order to meet the suicide quota. If you don't meet the suicide quota your workers are not working hard enough or you are paying them to much. It's simple business logic nothing personal.
Please pretend I didn't say anything.
Move everything file-like into the file system. Make emails into folders with tagged files. Link Torrents to their files and folders. Treat zips like folders. etc
Bit more on date range sliders, colors, files as tags and 3d models here:

You have to admire us for trying our best tho :-)
The trick seems to do some search query then click a lot of videos in the result. That seems to force a new hand.

...would be nice.
Such a nerdy website should really publish an OPML for its top tabs.
It would be truly nerdy if they would crawl for available feeds from front page news articles and build an OPML out of that.
Flat lists of feeds works too. Imagine an OPML or a flat list of feeds including everything with more than 100 points from the last 30 days.
Noobs will probably cry about it being larger than 4 items but if it is 100 000 feeds it would truly be an awesome thing that I will worship like a god.
This!
This has to be the main selling point.
The second would be to NOT use a web service but to run your own desktop feed aggregator. Everyone should stop using walled gardens for things you can easily do yourself:
YOU should be responsible for what you publish - no one else.
YOU should be responsible for what you read - no one else.
It doesn't work any other way. I'm not able to decide what you can and cant write on your blog. I'm also not able to decide what you can and cant read.
If your crap ends up on my webserver in whatever way I will be responsible for it(!)
Someone once said: When you grow up you have to be your own mum. It might sound like a lame joke but if you want lame nothing can beat a formula where one ends up responsible for what other people publish. Any amount of needless centralization will have the usual suspects pressure that entity into censorship.
What is legal in one country will land you in prison in the next.
Employers, government, border and airport security etc cant "ask" you for access to your home desktop computer.
But more importantly: Without RSS you cant read small websites that rarely publish. This also means you don't have to make your own website anymore in 2018 because no one reads it.

Its just a text file. You can have as many items as you like, all parts speak for themselves except perhaps the time stamp[0]
The pubDate is optional but a lot of rss aggregators don't know what to do without it.
I told him about my day. He looked angry at me with very large eyes and a big frown. I just continued my story as if nothing happened. He kept the face on for the first 2 minutes of it. I order a beer and one for my friend here. The added rage in his facial expression was hilarious. I continued talking about my day while drinking the beer. He looked at the glass for a few seconds and decided to drink from it.
The new facial expression was tired but slightly impressed by the way I continued to talk to him completely undisturbed.
Eventually, after 3 beers, the story about my day came to visiting a bar with only one other guest who apparently went to a public place expecting not to be talked to.
He laughed really hard. I said, hey, you got to work with what you have.
He then told the story of the very shitty day he was having. I forgot the details but it was truly a shit day.
One time, on a crowded train, an elderly lady just started talking about her visit to her lovely grandchildren and what they had been up to since her last visit. It wasn't a short story and to her it was the most fascinating experience in the world. While telling it she turned her head towards anyone who wasn't looking at her. She had quite the powerful gaze. She wasn't screaming but had a loud voice.
Eventually someone rudely interrupted her to ask her if she could stop talking. She just bluntly told him to go sit some place else. "The train is full of people silently gazing out of the window, people who forgot how to talk with others. What are you waiting for? Off you go?"
At that point the laughter made it apparent that people sitting really far away were also listening to her. She kept staring at him and kept telling him to just go away, go be miserable some place else, don't expect us to share your misery. Being made the center of attention everyone else was also looking at him. Eventually he just got up and left (producing even more laughter)
The moment he got up she continued her story exactly where she left of with a tone of voice as if the entire incident never happened.
The most interesting thing I took from the experience was how confident she was that a person who doesn't like to talk with strangers also doesn't talk back when ordered to piss off. Her involving 30 random strangers in her monologue also ruled out any physical retaliation.
After the story about her visit to the grandchildren she told us she always talked to strangers, she did this her entire life and wasn't about to stop. She got to know many nice people. She didn't like how the last few decades this made her the center of attention but felt obligated to remind us things weren't always like this.
We shouldn't let people like the guy who just left force us to stop talking. They are overstepping the bounds. It isn't for them to decide who you can or cant talk to. "Who does he think he is being so disrespectful to an elderly lady?" When she grew up one would listen to what older people had to say. They've been around, you might learn something.
It was a hilarious experience. I've been talking to random strangers ever since. At times you run into introvert people who obviously didn't talk with anyone for years. Without saying anything they reinforce the idea we should keep doing this.
Trust me, you can PM anyone you like on irc. If they say you can't do that you just tell them you just did.
The funniest resolve for the protesters you inevitably run into when doing this has to be....
We do have other approaches. That I can obtain your employment contract, take your picture as you walk in and out of buildings and when you visit the beach, figure out your birth day and who you hang out with...
...doesn't mean I'm allowed to or freely share/sell every detail of your life.
We could for example create a license or permit for gathering a type of data. Like: If you are a dating agency you can ask for peoples sex. If you are a head hunter you may gather data on employment history. If you have a taxi service you can ask for peoples address.
We could also adopt a government issued key for things like signing petitions.
Where the data is stored could also be subject to regulation. Its possible to keep access logs with specific justification for each bit of sensitive information accessed.

Informing the neighbors or inviting them to the party also works. If you are really pushing it you buy them some flowers and ask if it wasn't to much trouble the day after. If you have a normal relationship asking if the neighbors can tune it down a bit shouldn't be a big deal either.
Eventually I just went with keeping things in their own browser window. With multiple monitors or a screen big enough to have separate windows the dragging and dropping of tabs works fine.
Then the issue becomes that you cant save tab groups :(
You can even use multiple browsers if they do something useful for a type of group. History and bookmarking becomes even more mysterious that way.
The extensions I used to save groups are all broken atm.

You thought setting things to private kept them private?
But well put: If google wants to pretend it is quality material because it sits on a giant content farm they should indeed credit the original source for it. If they cant find it it should not be listed.
If it was text the entire content farm would be erased from the index indefinitely.
for what? do people put them on their website?
Isn't that what google is doing?
The only way to have the desired archive structures is to not have a dumping ground. Non of any kind.
It is significant because this aspect of the west has not changed at all. Just look how our historians are happy to attribute such acts to countries(!???) Until we start attributing invasions to the people who wanted them, those who organized them and those who profited from them this wont change.
Its at best inaccurate to state Britain wanted the war, Britain organized it and Britain profited. At worst it is the very formula to keep at it.
Sure, you can have conditionals but you can also replace them with no-ops and sure you can have no-ops but you can also move the lower part of the code up.... or should that be the upper part down? Which one is the bigger? How to keep track of this modification? surely moar code morphing is the answer?
Just keep the custom language dumb enough and it will be glorious.
I one time did a rather dull blog with tiny posts describing new blogs I found. (preferably using their own words) It wasn't a serious effort but got over 3 million hits. People didn't stick around but it was seriously cross pollinating readers between similar blogs. The other [proverbial] stay at home mum into baking cakes was just that much more interesting to the one.
I had amazing amounts of fun sending the "motherload" of traffic into 2 article blogs that started days ago. (If you knew me you would laugh how stereotypical that joke is.)
The proverbial mum was like, uhhh okay, I suppose I have to bake more cakes now?
Then when the blog matured other blogs would start to publish (much better) Articles about those awesome cakes. Even interviews happened.
I added 1-5 (usually 3) blog posts per day for a few years. Today there is ONLY ONE out of all of those blogs left that I know of. My blog died naturally, I just got bored with gazing over stale blogs and deleting postings referring to dead ones then deleted the entire thing.
